My first deck, the Ator Tarot, is complete and ready. I want the group at
Aeclectic to be the first to know about this, and the very last day of 2002
seems like an appropriate time. Our own Solandia says she'll review the
deck soon.

This deck is based on the Waite/Smith iconography and so has scenes on all
the cards. It's colorful, lighthearted and cartoony, and contains all the
symbology you'd expect. Two extra cards form the front and back 'labels' to
this shrinkwrapped deck (there's no box, and no LWB). The cards are printed
on 12-point cardstock with varnish on both sides; the dimensions are 3" x
4.25". This is a limited edition of 1000 decks.

There's a sales webpage. You can view it here:
http://www.glowinthedarkpictures.com/tarot.html Skip over for a look at some of the
card images. If you feel so moved, buy one. There's a PayPal setup on the
page.
I hope you'll give me some opinions and feedback.

I would love to check out your deck, but I can't bring up anything from the link, and can't find it on the home page. :(
I'll try again later. I can't wait to see it.

there is a dot after the html, remove that one and it works fine.

I dont see any copyright on the deck ??? or the page for that matter ? does that mean there arent any?

I like the noses :P
It could work as a "kids first deck" I think.

Personally I dont know if I like it or not, still searching for that thing that makes it different and unique - besides the noses that is :)

Great work though.

I think the figures are very comical and cute. I agree with bec that it would be a good starter deck for kids.

This is defintely a deck I will hopefully one day own! When I saw it, I said out loud: 'What a coooool deck!' cuz it really is! I have seen the Hello Kitty Tarot's response to the Rider Waite, but your Ator Tarot really is on the same great level as the Hello Kitty... It's readblae, but still cool, cute, humourous, and wonderfully colourful!

Great job! (And could you do the same to the Thoth? }))

Hi Rota,

I'm a bit of a sucker for RWS clones. or any clone for that matter which has an inprint fromthe artist on style.

I love the snail in the 9 of coins:D so cute eh

I will be sending in my order A.S.A.P

I was just thinking to myself when was it since I bought my last deck. Good hevens it's well over 11 years.

I'm sure they will do well even if it's a fun deck. I also think the website looks very pro.

If you got it flaunt it!

I hate cute.

But then most folks know that.

I had the opportunity to look at the Ator deck…it was cute.

Then I looked at it again…

For starters it has a ‘cover page’ card. It says, “As above” at the top. at the bottom it says something like, “So below”. My brain saw, “As above – 50 below” with this in mind I looked at the deck a second time.

I did not like the deck.

I loved it. It was the second look that kicked me into the, “Stop thinking” mode.

Like they say, “Meditation – it ain’t what you think…”

I gotta recommend this deck…for everybody…

But then again, if life is too serious for you…

Rota, I just ordered the Ator Tarot via PayPal, it looks like a really nice deck. It will be a good deck to use in happy moments, or for nauseatingly cheerful friends! (joke) Once upon a time I lived in the town of Rota, Spain, so these cards will have a personal significance for me. Thanks in advance, and if you ship the cards out personally, could you find a way to autograph them for me? Maybe by Sharpie on one of the bonus cards? Thanks!

Kind Regards,

Bob/Le_Corsair

Rota, the Ator Tarot just arrived today, what a quick turnaround!

It's a fun deck, and I kept wondering whose art it resembles. The turnip noses remind me of Goya, the humor as well; then it struck me: Dilbert! The cards have a strong Scott Adams flavor about them! As a matter of fact, I just checked Key 0 to see if the little dog resembled Dogbert, but no, it doesn't.

Now I have to get a box for it!

Thanks again for a fun deck!

I think it looks really cute, humourous, and I agree with le Corsair, it totally has a Dibert feel. I could not resist! I am so eager to read with it!

Thanks!

Why do you put this temptations here, why, why??? Now I'm gonna have to buy it!

I simply loved it, it's so cute... I'm sure I'll buy it (maybe next month, because now I'm short of money..) you can count me in!

Since this thread got bumped again, I thought I would take the opportunity to say thank you to the people who have written and talked with me about this deck. Thanks so much to everyone who has acquired this deck! Buying a Tarot deck can be a significant event to a Tarotist, not only because of the depth of the meanings that the deck is intended to symbolize, but also because a deck costs a certain amount of money. I appreciate both of those concerns, and so I'm gratified and happy that people want to acquire the Ator Tarot.

The cards have been well received. I wanted to create a deck that was infused with a goofy good cheer, yet had the same intrinsic symbolic depth as the RWS we're all familiar with. So many people have mentioned the quiet humor of the deck -- humor is not the first emotion we associate with the Tarot, but it's certainly an emotion the world can use more of these days.

So again, thank you very much.

+++++++++++++++++++

(ps: For anybody who's wondering - I'm planning to publish the International Icon Tarot quite soon.)

I love the Ator. It makes me smile, and it's one of the few decks I would use for young folk.

I look forward to seeing your next deck.

What a fabulous deck. I have never seen it before but it really is something. Congratulations to you.

Unfortunately, I went to see my bank manager today and he won't let me have any more money so you'll have to wait a bit before you get my order. Is there a limited amount of copies because it could be a while before I can obtain one?

Absolutely lovely though; very cheery.

Best wishes

I just got my Ator deck in the mail today. As I usually do with a new deck, I shuffled it until a card fell out. The card that comes out of a deck on first shuffle usually tells me how I'll get along with it. (Bad sign if it's the Hanged Man. Those are the decks I usually give up on and stow away.)

So, I sat down tonight and shuffled and shuffled and shuffled, and then I shuffled some more. Finally, a card fell out. The Eight of Cups. I tried to figure out what that meant to my relationship with the deck, and then realized that the funk I had been in all day was an Eight of Cups situation -- the loneliness of the creative path I have chosen.

Wow. This deck knows me.

Thank you, Robin Ator. Now if only you'd let me know why the Queen of Cups and the dispenser of charity in the Six of Pents have pointy noses instead of the bulbous ones that the rest of your figures do, I could sleep easy.

"Now if only you'd let me know why the Queen of Cups and the dispenser of charity in the Six of Pents have pointy noses instead of the bulbous ones that the rest of your figures do, I could sleep easy."

++++++++

The Queen of Cups deeply understands emotional states. She is the one who can not only feel deeply, but also to intellectually articulate her emotional state to others. This requires a special balance of qualities. The pointed nose is intended to show her ability to function both intuitively and rationally.

The man on the Six of Pentacles has a pointed nose for a different reason. People who manage money well often have a special facial characteristic: they will have narrow nasal openings. Books on face-reading sometimes term it the 'cashbox nose'. Mr. Six of Pentacles is of that type.

By the way, you've probably noticed by now that all the faces in this tarot have no mouths. (That's intentional: since the expression of the mouth on a face is a great indicator of mental state, and I wanted the greatest latitude possible for a card's interpretation.) Except for one face...
Have you found it yet?
How do you interpret it?

Aha. My first reaction is that without the mouth on this figure, there would be no breath of divinity, and thus the action in the card could not take place.

Unless a laying on of hands has taken place--there's more than one way to acquire divinity!

Back again. I've done two readings for others with this deck so far and, as Emeril says, "BAM!" This deck cuts straight to the point, and I never have to furrow my brow and wonder, 'Well, what does that card mean there?' I've never had a deck so easy to read with.

Thanks again, Robin!

I'm sorry, I know I am yammering on, but I just noticed the Emperor's feet don't touch the ground -- his legs are too short! Does this mean he has "short man syndrome"??? Wow, what a great deck! :)

I just love "cute" but no over-sweetened things and this deck is one of those things, I received it 2 days ago and I must say the actual deck looks much better than card scans on the internet! (maaany times I've seen that happening the other way :() as a RWS clone it can be used to read as soon as you open the package, the familiar yet lighthearted images are a joy to see while reading.

I think it has been said before but this deck makes a perfect choice when reading for children or giving it as a 1st deck gift, can't wait to test it with my 5 y/o niece! :)

I just received this deck in the mail today and I love it! All the images just make me so happy! I've done a few readings, and they are really straight to the point and so easy to read. And I love, love, love the card stock. I like to poker-shuffle, and these cards shuffle like an absolute dream!

I did a quick intro spread:

Who are you (Ator)? 10 of Cups :)
Who am I? 9 of Pents (one of my favorite cards...who I strive to be, and my sweet Ator already sees me as this!)
Who are we together? The Lovers  ... Awwwww! Just in time for Valentines Day! LOL!!

I'm a very happy camper! Also, Robin's an absolute angel. There was a shipping address mix-up, and Robin's customer service was above and beyond excellence! I'm just in love all around! :D

Once again this morning I reach for the Ator...

I loved this cute little fun deck the minute I saw it online. When it arrived and I saw it in hand, I liked it even more.

But I didn't expect it to read so beautifully. It's just fantastic, and it's been so consistent as well. I have a fair number of decks that I could say I just love. But the Ator loves me right back....
