Determining A Star Sign

GreenMoonBeam

How does one determine the star sign of a person? The birthday date is
24/9/1963. Place of birth Liverpool UK. Not aware sadly of the time of birth. I
do not know very much about 'cusp' dates except they mean different attributes. {if that is the correct word}

here is some info from one of my oracle/astrology programs for birth Sept. 24, 1963:

[Sun in LIBRA] Your keyword is responsibility -- the ability to respond.
You are able to find yourself in others, in relationships, rather than alone -
- a mirror or clear pool. You can be peaceful, calm, and undisturbed. A genius
at bringing out others getting them to do things, you are a born strategist.

That depends what you mean; star sign, Sun sign or what planets are in what Astrological houses?

If you DO mean to use the term star sign intentionallyy (that is in relation to the Stars) I'll offer an opinion, if you are just interested in general astrology I'll leave it to others.

hmmmm...I took it to mean "sun sign"... maybe I was wrong to think that?

GreenMoonBeam, it would be nice to know if you meant "star sign" or "sun sign."
I know you said "star sign" ... but the way you described the person's
birth date, etc. made me think you meant "sun sign" instead.

OK. I confuse even myself. I am born on3/13 and am Pisces. I have a friend
born 9/24 who is...... Virgo or Libra?
I thought sun sign was determined by knowing time of birth? And so I gave
too much information.

So, is a Star sign another term for Sun sign???

BrightEye

Star sign is the same as sun sign. 24 September is Libra.

the cusps vary from year to year, they are not fixed, so for instance one year someone born on the 23rd september may still be a virgo and not a libra while in another year the 22nd could make them a libra (just generalising to make the point, those dates are not exact)

so if you are born a few days near a cusp its best to check the ephemeris for the day to see which sign the sun was in from midnight - and if its exactly on the day of birth that the sign changes you will need a birthtime

tarotlyn, sept 9 is not sun in libra, its virgo

there are lots of places to put in your birthday and see what sign you are

star-lover is quite correct in everything said above. However the main reason why birth times are required is to fix the Midheaven and the Ascendant (and from them the 12 houses).

'Star signs' and 'Sun signs' are not strictly speaking the same thing. 'Sun sign' is the sign of the zodiac in which the Sun was placed at the time of birth. 'Star sign' is a vague term, usually taken as a sign of the zodiac but could also be interpreted as 'constellation', which is an astronomical phenomenon. Again, strictly speaking, constellations are not signs and signs are not constellations.

This should not be taken as meaning that constellations are Astrologically irrelevant, it's clear that in prehistory they were very relevant. However in the context of this question, we are better sticking to the term 'signs of the zodiac'

Gosh...I still like "Sun Sign" better and I think is it a more common or popular term.

Also to add:
The exact time also gives you the exact degree of the Moon, which moves
faster than the other placements.

Without the time (if you cannot get it for some reason) you can still learn
a LOT about someone using their basic aspects for that day at noon. You just
won't know that exact degree of the Moon...and because it moves quickly it
could be in a totally different Zodiac sign than where it was at noon.
