November's new Moon on Tuesday 28 October in the United States and Wednesday 29 October in Australia has a particularly Scorpionic theme - the Gold Rush. The Sabian Symbol is Scorpio 6: A Gold Rush Tears People Away From Their Native Soil.

This Symbol seems very apt for this new Moon with all that's going on in the world with credit, debt, bank loans, retirement savings, taxes, worries about employment, concerns over mortgages, etc, the pillaging of money by CEO's and other 'executives' who often run a company into the ground leaving piles of debt while getting a golden handshake worth millions of dollars.

In a Gold Rush, the actual promise of abundance and fulfillment is only really available for a few, although this depends very much on what the ‘Gold’ is that is being pursued. If the ‘Gold’ is worth the journey and the search, particularly on an internal level, this could be a very rewarding journey that may lead to a better life. Before you set out, you need to make sure you have an adequate “map” of the new territory that you’re exploring and the supplies you need to sustain you. The choice is often between an established, fairly stable situation and an unstable, temporary or risky situation.

You may indeed strike ‘Gold’ or you may just find yourself exhausted and a long way from home. Learning to discriminate what is and what isn't possible will enhance your judgment of what’s worth pursuing. Feelings of excitement and hysteria can be infectious and you can find yourself heading off towards something that’s not all it was cracked up to be. It can be that you'll never know how you're going to fare unless you try.

Of course, in a gold rush, the desire to make easy money, to “strike it rich”, or the grab for fame can easily overtake people if ambitions get out of hand. Long term relationships may become unpredictable and unstable when this Symbol is around, as one, or possibly even both of you, run off for parts unknown just when you seem to be settling into an everyday sense of life. If you’re both after the same treasure, however, this can be an incredibly exciting experience. Whatever the outcome, the trick is to enjoy the journey.

This new Moon really calls for some discriminatory thinking about what we have and what's important in our world. Many are searching for a better world on many levels and the upcoming elections in the United States hold an unknown promise over the coming weeks. Who will be elected? What will happen to financial markets? How will it affect me and my family? How will the economy pull out of the current apparent disaster?

I, like many others, hope and have my fingers crossed for an Obama win. This man seems to be the best bet to lead the United States to the solutions so desperately needed. Of course, there's always the fact that this is another US President and perhaps just really a figurehead and the entire system is firmly in place regardless of who wins.

Pluto, the planet of mass consciousness, power, money, the Plutocracy, enormous wealth, control, death and taxes, etc, is on Sagittarius 30: The Pope Blessing the Faithful.

This brings up issues of whether we're being fed the real story - will the 'promises' being made in this pre election time be honored? Will enough people vote for the 'right candidate'? Will the voting machines 'bless the faithful' or are they again rigged, registering the wrong votes, bringing success to the wrong candidate, the wrong party, the wrong possibility for the future?

Regardless, we need HOPE - hope that all will be ok - hope that we can live our lives safe in the comfort of our homes - whether we own them or not. The following are the keywords and cautions for this degree from my book 360 Degrees of Wisdom: Charting Your Destiny With the Sabian Oracle.
Keywords: Strong desires to move on. The longing and the search for the easy fulfillment of hopes and dreams. Leaving one’s native soil. Having a cause or mission to pursue. Leaving home, people, family. Dropping everything to chase a project. Pilgrimages. The search for riches. Immigration and migration. Listening to clues. The search for the Holy Grail. Pursuing a better life.

The Caution: Chasing the impossible dream. Losing everything. Being unrealistic or opportunistic. Not being content with what one’s got. The grass being greener elsewhere. Lusting after rewards that may be unreal or transitory. Risking what one has for what one could have. Wild goose chases.

Examining what the 'gold rush' means to you could bring you interesting insights. We strike gold every day with our friends, family, the nature around us, the sun shining, our sense of freedom, our sense of self, our belief in the goodness of life. Often, we don't need to even leave home to find that gold. Sometimes, though, the urge to go after rewards to be found elsewhere takes over and we have to step out of our comfort zone and just go for it.

Venus, the planet that rules money, possessions and abundance, is in Sagittarius - the sign that can find us with very big ideas, big projects, a long way from home or finding a more spiritual outlook on life. Venus is on Sagittarius 13: A Widow's Past is Brought to Light.

This Symbol brings up issues from the past which can be disturbing or confronting or illuminating, enlightening or freeing. How we deal with things being brought to light is what matters. We can learn something about someone, hear some news, have a realization, be confronted with something done in the past OR we can learn from the past and learn how to move on, we can let ourselves and others off the hook for past transgressions, problems, shortcomings or secrets. This degree shows that it's certain that some issue from the past will be dredged up to derail someone in this presidential election.

The degree after Sag 13 is Sagittarius 14: The Pyramids and the Sphinx. This degree can show an amazing spiritual heritage and the belief in the wonders and structures of our lives that hold true through the ages and remind us of the greatness of human endeavor. It can also show large numbers of people working like slaves to support the structure of big business where a few people are lording it over the many with their demands for hard, solid work with little in return for the peons (slaves or people that are dispensable) working under them.

Of course, it doesn't have to be that HARD, however for many on the planet at this time, it is. People are losing their homes, their hard-won savings or investments, while others are amassing great fortunes, not paying their taxes and living the life of Riley.

Staying hopeful and faithful to our wishes, beliefs and friends is the best bet in this Gold Rush. We certainly have been through a rather difficult time with retrograde Mercury hovering and moving over some of the more difficult Libran degrees recently. Most notably, Mercury has spent considerable time recently, and again in the last few days, on Libra 18: Two Men Placed Under Arrest and Libra 19: A Gang or Robbers in Hiding.

Faith in our relationships and friendships has to stay strong and transparency is a major thing now; we will find it harder and harder to cope with folks around us who don't contribute, support us or make us feel good about our lives. In business, we have to be straight and firm - keep a diary if necessary. It seems that we've got to be alert on so many levels - and there's always so much to get done.

The 'being alert' factor is backed up by Chiron on Aquarius 17: A Watchdog Standing Guard Protecting His Master and His Possessions.

This image of Chiron fits in so neatly with this new Moon Symbol of the Gold Rush. It can be that we surround ourselves with so much 'stuff' that we can't rest or relax for fear of it disappearing.

We also have the interesting paradox of Saturn in Virgo opposing Uranus in Pisces. This is so push-me-pull you that it deserves another blog post. Certainly, the old guard is being challenged by the new one. The old ways don't work - well, they don't work for the majority of people - we need new solutions - new possibilities - new hope.

And it's all there for us - but you may need to figure out where, what and who is included in your Gold Rush?

:)
