View Full Version : 'The Process' threads by Umbrae: ToC
Well, at times, good threads need to be kept somehow together. Thirteen's earlier sequential posts have been made into a veritable resource for so many, and with these threads, Umbrae has also provided a similar service. I thought it would be useful to be able to easily cross-reference them. The Process: Beginnings (http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10446)

Thank you! What a great idea! Actually, I think Umbrae should write and publish a book and give all of us forum members a free, autographed copy. Think we could get him to do that?

Heck, I might even BUY one.
I'd buy it!
So far what I've read is both fascinating and largely unexplored fictional territory. And, he's doing a faboo job at wrapping me up in the story telling, as he has a good voice and approach to his subject matter.
Excellent work jmd for keeping these threads together.

I'd buy it jast so I could throw it out the window... or stoke up the fire with it :D:D:D
j/k, but if that ever were to happen I would definately show some support and buy a copy or two... :D
Thanks jmd!
I'd buy a copy too!
I've really enjoyed reading these, Umbrae has so much to offer.
Umbrae... here's a suggested title for part 3.5:overcoming praise and remaining focussed!;) :):):)

I'm keeping all of the post together in a text file for myself. I think these posts are very interesting, and I certinally would like to keep them around for later study even if I don't agree with everything in them. If they were to become a book, I'd probably buy one, mostly because I love books. :)
I've now updated the Table of Contents in the first post...
... and you thought I may have forgotten this thread!?! ;)
So, Umbrae, have you written the book?
Read the whole "Process" today..... thank you for bumping it. Hope you are writing the book.....
:)
It's beeing worked on. The book itself is finished.
Now I have to stop dragging my feet and begin sending it to publishers...
Oh, that's wonderful!!!!
I can't wait to read it!

Well, get a move on, already. I want a shiny new trade paperback, preferably autographed, with a raven feather bookmark.
I only just saw this and... wow.
A dialogue with a freespirited mind. Melikes lots. :)

I've only had time to scan through a bit, but wouldn't this be a great "sticky"?

You know I was about to suggest the very same thing! ;)
Was going to make this thread a sticky but Umbrae has requested that it remain an open and ordinary thread :)

Have never seen these threads before ...
So, off to put the kettle on ... no disturbances while I settle down and read them, I hope, hehe.

I just wanted to post out of gratitude for these wonderful posts. They gave me a lot of perspective and inspiration. After reading them, I found a little blank notebook and set aside two pages for each Major Arcana card and one for each Minor Arcana card, and then proceeded to write down my own impressions and lessons from the cards. I had the most fabulous and revelatory time doing this that I sat up in bed for hours doing it, totally focused!
And indeed, some of what I wrote echoed what I'd read elsewhere, but the understanding became internalized, came alive, when it came about from my own perception and analysis, examples and stories from my own life, rather than from someone else. And the instances where I came up with a different approach to the card really expanded my intuited and felt sense for the cards. And most strikingly, everything I wrote down about the cards reflected an understanding of life and its lessons that extends far beyond tarot for me.
And I really love your balanced approach, Umbrae, the mix of yin and yang, the tenderness and care paired with directness and authority. It's given me a lot of ideas and understanding for how to approach doing readings for others if and when I ever begin to do so.
Soooo glad to see these up in a thread, jmd!
I printed these out when I first came to AT. I still reread them on a regular basis. My copies are dog-eared and frayed, but used.
Each time I re-read them, too, I find something I missed the first time around.
Thanks, Umbrae.
I would get the book.
Printing them again...time for a fresh copy.

just updated a missing thread from the Process threads...

Thanks for bumping this up, Mythos, it's wonderful to be reminded of these inspirational (and fun!!) threads. Nice to go back to them sometimes when my interest in reading starts to lag, and get a shot in the arm.
I've read the Process threads twice now, they're wonderful. I just find myself going "ooh my left arm for a reading by Umbrae *drool*". ;) Very inspirational too, of course. If really gave me something to think about when it comes to reading for others. I can't say I quite understand 'the blank spot' though...

I have the whole series printed out and bound, and I dip into it quite often. It's marvellous! So much out there on the cards, so little on reading...Umbrae, will you write that book?
but I still don't use a pencil...my old fountain pen would not stand for it ;)

Me too!! I reread them from time to time...so helpful...

Have to make a choice between buying decks and buying ink for the printer. Needless to say, the printer is now a dust bucket. I'd buy the book ... when it becomes one ... if only to toss it in the fire :joke: ... Oops, only have a gas heater in the loungeroom. "What to do? What to do?" Guy Fawkes night bonfire? Nah! not allowed anymore, even backyard incinerators are off limits. Gosh, I'd just have to read it and keep it! Now wouldn't that be a shocker
mythos :)
PS: So where IS the book!
i just printed out the wonderful process even tho my ink is running low. the blanketty blank ink costs more than the printer did! i read somewhere the ink for our printers costs more than fine perfume. anyway i'm going to put The Process in a folder and will reread it again and again.
i hope there's some sort of anouncement if Umbrae gets the book published because i'll buy it for certain.

Copied and pasted it all to word, changed font to papyrus and size 10. Printed it out front and back on parchment paper. Made a title page:

Tomorrow I'm going to get heavier cardstock paper and bind it and make it look really nice :D :D :D
Thanks Umbrae for your excellent writing; I'll be sure to let everyone read it when they ask about Tarot (with full credit due to you, of course).

Just got steered here by a link from another thread and only way I could think of to say thank you is to post...."Thank You to jmd and Umbrae for so much help."
I would definitely buy one. Very nice.
Two years ago, I bumped in this thread and of course I loved it. Right away I boomarked it, not to lose it. But at the time it was my computer at work and somehow I lost it. I shearched for it , again and again for a long long time, even in the forum Library. I'm sure lots of people would like to see it in New Posts for a waille.
Thank you Umbrae one more time!!!

I thought you were talking about "reading Thereau"....
No, really, I was sitting there wondering why anyone would think that you having read Thereau for years would give you an advantage as a tarot reader.

I've just found this threads couple of days ago, Umbrae, thank you for sharing your knowledge and wisdom! Jmd, thank you for arranging this thread! Can't wait for the 'published product' :D
I finally broke down and bought a printer yesterday. So useful. Anyway, now I printed out all of The Process and am enjoying it immensely. Thanks for putting this thread together!

I just went to listen to the Tarot Connection podcast with this chapter read by Umbrae!. I'd read his Process here on AT, but wow, hearing it in his voice brings so much more significance--and the 9 wands that appeared in my morning spread today now make more sense to me.
I look forward to buying this audio book!
Why isn`t this index made stikcy?
If I'm not mistaken, the mods were going to, but Umbrae himself didn't want that. Am I wrong?

You know how Dan says....write down your card meanings in a journal, a spiral notebook...not on a yellow legal pad hoping to transfer it to computer...
Well....I know we have all The Process threads here...but, believe me, there is nothing like listening to Dan tell it....it's the same kind of difference. This material is meant to be heard, not read.
Hope I can hear all the tracks, since I thought I was buying the 6 audio CDs, but got one...with all the tracks and have been playing it in my car....

Umbrae's and firemaiden's writings here @ AT are amongst the best around.
:)
Perhaps they will collaborate on a CD project sometime? A convoluted story like they tell and bounce off each other here online? Wow -- that staggers the imagination ....

FYI: The threads, do not contain all the material in the audio book.

Personally, I'd rather the sticky be removed...

I've been reading through the process threads and all of them have been enlightening and thought provoking. In The Camp of the Enemy made me laugh because I distinctly recognise a couple of those paragrahps - specifically the one about people not living up to your expectations. I heard this at a card reading before I started reading myself and at the time thought, "Wow, she's good - that is so me!"
What I have read so far has made me think about what it means to be a reader and trusting your instinct. I've listened to the brilliant podcast with Leisa and Dan aswell - loved it. The CD set is on my wishlist - early Christmas present perhaps :)
