In the minor suits : Which card gives you the creeps?

Maggiemay

Hey,

I would like to get a feel as to which of the minor cards gives you the creeps and why.

It would be interesting to see which ones would come up!

Mine is primarly the 7 of swords. I don't like that card. When I see the card, the first thing I think about is : backstabbing.

What about you? What is your creepiest card?

Maggie

ps: I am aware that Halloween is long gone...but hey... :))

For me, it would have to be the three of Swords. Especially the RWS imagery. That nasty, nasty pierced heart.

Ten of Swords in the Tarot of a Secret Garden. Those ants crawling all over the spider or whatsit give me goosebumps. Gah!

The Seven of Swords is creepier in some decks than others. In the Thoth tarot, the keyword for this card is "Futility," signifying a weak effort or an attempt at compromise or appeasement. It's more pathetic than creepy. A couple of other decks I can think of, the Druidcraft and the Nigel Jackson (Medieval Enchantment), emphasize cleverness and slyness. But most RWS based decks have some variation of the thief image, which I agree is very creepy, with its implication of someone sneaking behind your back doing some sort of horrible mischief.

Going back to the Thoth tarot, the Seven of Cups, "Debauch," is very creepy. It's a card of sinking into the morass of degenerate pleasures, bringing to mind drug addiction, drunkenness, pornography and unwholesome sexual practices, and other forms of depravity. Even the image of this card gives me the creeps.

For the Rider Waite, the only other "creepy" card I can think of is the Five of Swords, because of the creep crowing over his victory and sadistically enjoying humiliating his victims.

My creepiest is the 7ofDisks in the Thoth - Failure.
I simply hate that card. There is something dark, spiderish about that image.
Actually I like the 3 of Swords and the 7 of Swords in the RWS/UW - but agree with Alan about the 5 of Swords.
More generally I'm not fond of any 10 of Swords, allthough I mostly like the Sword suit.

Starshower

The horrific 5 of Swords in the Sacred Rose, which really upsets me.

Some of the Sacred Rose Wands too:
the 4 & the 8 & especially the Ace are rather horrid -
I feel raped by those agressively phallic, threatening cards.
Why should the Fire & Drive of Spirituality & Initiative have to be so plain & brutal, in an otherwise rich, deep, multi-faceted deck?!

Otherwise, I love the Sacred Rose - even the blank eyes.

At best the 7 of swords could be an undercover agent/ secret agent and at worst he is a traitor. In either case, someone is getting duped by this guy...

It could be one way of looking at it....

I agree.

That's exactly why this card gives me the creeps!

Thanks for your posts :))

I agree with Sravana... That card is truly weird, and I dont think Im easily freaked out. There is something unnerving (Im reluctant to say "obscene"!) about that open mouth!

To be honest just about every card in the Hermetic Tarot gives me the creeps. I think I'll be parting company with it in the New Year.
