I don't rightly remember where I saw it on the web a day or two ago, but there were some reproductions of a few cards from the Necromantic Tarot, by Westgate Publishing. Now I'm not normally into this heavy gothic, death-oriented stuff -- though I *do* have a weakness for 19th Century ghost stories -- but I was extremely impressed by the artwork of this deck. Very macabre and beautifully executed. I wouldn't mind a set for myself, but I'd really love to obtain one for a friend who's not into Tarot, though she would flip to own a set of images like this one!

I went to Westgate's site, but could not find the deck for sale there. Is anyone familiar with this deck? Any comments you'd like to share? Is it out of print, or can it be obtained somehow/somewhere?

Hiya-I think you'll find that this tarot deck was a very limited edition a few years ago, it's not in current circulation, even though it's worth keeping an eye out just in case one pops up from the "grave" somewhere in the wide younder-you never know! The artist is Leilah Wendell, whom has also created the Gothic Tarot which is still in print but the deck I believe to be a 22 major only deck. Also, there is a Gothic website featuring her stuff (gothic.com?)worth hunting down! Hope this makes sense.....Good luck!

Bringing this thread "back to life"})

This deck is awesome!! Saw it at TarotGardens site and really want it!
Anyone know where I could find one or can anyone post some pics of it and share their thoughts/experiences with this deck.........

I own a copy of it.

It was the biggest disappointment of my entire collection. It cost a lot of money, and the cards are TINY and not particularly well made. Most of the pictures are crowded and indistinct - I personally think the images look better in the black & white photos in Kaplan's Encyclopedia than they do in real life.

Almost a total waste of money, in my opinion. And mind you, I LOVE gothic, dark decks.

Thanks Annabelle....

I really do appreciate your honest opinion on this deck, as it has been on my wishlist for quite a long time, and I have seen it sell for well over $100 on ebay. Based upon your review, I would be less likely to bid on one if the opportunity came up....and it really is a shame. The scans I have seen are gorgeous, too bad the cards do not live up to our expectations.

I found a copy in a local used bookstore for $10.00! And I was never really looking for it actively, but I guess it found me.

The cards are small but a nice magnifying glass brings the images to life, and they are eerily attractive.

Don't give up too quickly, and don't assume you will _have to_ pay a huge amount. Keep looking in used bookstores, both locally and when you travel (I always check them out in any new city I visit).

Good luck!
