I, like many others, anxiously await Jean-Claude Flornoy's restoration of the Vieville deck seen here (http://www.tarot-history.com/Jacques-Vieville/index.html).
If anyone has an update on its progress, could they please post here so that we may be kept apprised?
I have no updates whatsoever on the Vieville, but I saw this thread and pounced on it as one who - like you - is eager to see how it is coming on!
I love the Noblet and I love my Héron Vieville, so I imagine it is going to be a marriage made in heaven!
We are currently working on the re-edition of a complete Dodal, so contemplating Vieville is a bit like looking at the Himamlayas while you're still only halfway over the Alps!
The Dodal will come out this year. Exactly when is still undetermined.
Vieville remains, therefore, a project and Intent. For the moment, we're still slogging over the Alps.
Best to all,
Roxanne Flornoy

Thank you, Roxanne. It is disappointing but good to know.
We will have to be patient---not! lol
Cheers Roxanne,
Looking forward to the Dodal - hoping it will be available from Jon here in England, as was the Noblet. Also being patient re. the Vieville :)

Being absolutely in love with my Dusserre Dodal I'll be fascinated to see the 'restoration' and would expect the same attention to detail I see in Jean-Claude's Noblet. I love the Justice card I got as a bonus. :)
Sending you a pm.
A new restored Dodal?
OMFG...I must be seated...how wonderful!

The Dodal... excellent news to hear and I wish you well with it.
These new renditions will be truly something to look forward to. The Noblet is superb, I cannot wait for the others.

I am so happy about the Dodal restration. I am going to have a hard time waiting. I don't have a Dusserre Dodal.
I love my Jean Noblet Tarot. I will wait hopefully with patience for the Vieville.
Thank you so much Roxy.
Be at Peace and have a great night everyone.

Apparently our very own le pendu is designing the box for the Dodal.
Mazal Tov, R!
Yes indeed, the ever gracious and infinitely talented pendu has accepted to design the box for the complete Dodal. Yippee!

Hello Rox and all,
So, it 's good to see that a brand new "fac similé" or let's restoration is close to born.
My Historical decks collection will increase soon.
You are nearly on arrival line. ;))
Bon courage pour la suite,
Yves Le Marseillais
I just found (& bought:-) myself a Dussere Dodal, but I will be glad to add the Flornoy restauration to my humble but growing collection too.
Keep up the nice work there in St.-Suzanne!

I am applying patience to the wait for the Flornoy Dodal Tarot. Being able to add this historic tarot to my collection of usable decks is going to increase my knowledge of all things tarot.
Be at Peace

While the Dodal is bringing up delicious sighs... my heart belongs to the mysterious hexing or whatever is written so quaintly and the almost delicately blurred and bumpity charm of the Vieville...which at times looks like it was designed by someone riding the elephant going with Hannibal across the Alps!
Just as an aside, waiting a decade for the lovely redoing of the Vieville shouldn't be so hard after so many centuries...but we modern day tarot fans eagerly anticipate the arrival of a historic redoing even before you planned to finish the decks.
Here is to great wishes for your newly minted Dodal and the twinkles in your eyes when you feel up to working out the Vieville...thanks for the update...
From one of the Vieville twinkies....(Silly me)

Ooh, me too!
I simply adore my noblet. It has rapidly become a favourite, and I look forward to getting the dodal and (hopefully, eventually) a vieville.

Yes, and if only they would add the Tarot de Paris to the list - my collection would be complete!
A bump. Has anyone heard any updates over the last year? I'm sure many of us would love to have a Flornoy Vieville restoration deck.
Every now and again I browse the Vieville page on Flornoy's site. The few cards he has already restored are so remarkably beautiful I can't help gawking at them and imagining what the rest will turn into.
Well, we've basically decided to do a majors-only Vieville.
To pass into action, however, we need the images from the Bibliothèque Nationale. These were ordered months and months ago. But the ways of this august institution are inscrutable, and it seems they cannot be hurried in any way. So we wait...
Best to all, Rox

Will these be hand colored?
That is being debated. I hope so. It wouldn't be "card-factory" industrial in any case. Hand-coloring is very slow - that is, after the stencils are (slowly) cut. The result is necessarily expensive....

Hello Roxanne and Jean Claude,
This is a very good news to read about your choice for handmade Vieiville.
I take an option for one pack of it of course.
By the way did you decided if you will print on reversed option or "normal" position regarding some cards ?
This is a sensitive point I know and no doubt that you have thought a lot before your choice.

I would probably buy hand made majors, but probably wouldn't buy if they were not hand colored. Results not typical ;)
I would love a set of hand made Majors. I have the Dodal Majors and love them dearly. In fact, the thought that this will be a set of Majors (possibly hand-painted) has got me even more excited now!
Roxanne and Jean Claude,
Thank you for the information. Here is another order in advance for a set of the majors only, in whatever form you decide to bring them into being.
You may be happy to hear that one of your Noblets was given to a young 21 year old filmmaker here in NY. This was his first exposure to tarot cards. He was amazed and completely inspired. So Jean Claude's wish of using these luminous decks (Noblet, Dodal and soon Vieville) to enlighten a new generation has already started to take place.
By the way, he couldn't stop looking and talking about the Ace of Swords. His ideas were quite traditional, too. What a pleasure to see someone come to tarot who has never seen the Rider-Waite.
Thanks again for such a caring restoration of these wonderful tools.
Alec
Hey! Great news! Amazing to hear of someone in the US unpolluted (I hesitated to use that word, but what the hell...) by the RW.
Thanks to all for your perspectives.
JC is away at the moment, so can't add his 2 cents.
The reversal question is sticky, and a decision will be made. For the moment, not yet even having the originals, this project remains a bit abstract...

It's an appropriate word :)

Bump.
Is it still on the cards (no pun :)) that a restoration of the Vieville is still being considered ?
Bee :)
Yes, it's underway indeed. But still tracing, and it's slow.
Many thanks Rox :)
Being patient....... and saving up!
