I have the Light and Shadow tarot deck... Does anyone else???

I got it from a good friend of mine who never used hers... lol

It's black & white and pretty big for normal cards.

I dream of having the Romany Tarot (gypsy tarot) and/or the Renaissance Tarot but I'm low on my bufget so if you know where I could get one or the other (or both) that would be great.... lol

Hold on to it!!! It is Out of Print(OOP), and VERY hard to come by!

I think you're thinking of the Servant of the Light that is rare and OOP by Ashcroft-Nowicki? Light and Shadow I think can be found somewhat easily, I'm not totally sure on that though. :)

There is the trade section on this page where you can trade for decks! Might want to take a look.

This was my favorite deck for a long time. It's still in my top ten.

Amazon.com still has it available.

I had the Light and SHadow deck, and then i gave it to my friend. LOL. The times i've used it have been very accurate. I would color the cards if i were you, since it adds more "you" to the deck. Hold onto this deck, it can give you some very accurate readings.

Hi Esmerelda!

I absolutely adore the Light and Shadow Tarot... The re-interpretation of each card and the non-colour really makes this deck a joy to read with... Very open, spacious, but also very detailed...

But I agree that it is a little larger than most decks, so I do have problems shuffling it. (Small hands)

yeah, it is large.... I was giving a reading to one of my best buds, and she was like... "Whats taking so long..."

it took me like 5 hours to shuffle em... lol

hmmm.... i might color them... i dunno... ill think about it

the light and shadow tarot was originally a self published deck. the late renaissance tarot historian brian williams worked with the artist to write a book for it and get it published. each card was carved out of wood block(i think). so a lot of energy was put into its creation. the artist is also now deceased. my advise is to hold on to it and don't color it in! with both involved parties deceased and it not being a popular deck, i think it will eventually be rare and valuable. that's what i'm banking on at least. ;)

I think actually the designs were carved out of linoleum, rather than wood.

I agree with truthsayer that you should not color them in. Aside from the value, the cards were specifically designed around areas of black and white, and it just doesn't work that well if you try to color them in. I know because I made a copy of a card and tried. :) If you do want to color them, I suggest you copy the cards and color the copies.

This deck is currently top of my wish list. I love the World Spirit and so feel drawn to this type of art. I may just have to pay a little visit to Amazon (oh dear)

This is definitely one of my favorite decks! I get such strong, clear meanings when I read with it.

And for the shuffling problem I just turn the deck so it stands vertically in my hand and shuffle it that way. It still takes a little longer, but it's easier for me.

Peace,

There you go, I`ve just gone and ordered it from Amazon and I`m holding you lot responsible. Just what I needed to cheer me up as I`ve been having a bit of a bad time lately.
Many thanks!

A Servants of the Light started on ebay for $15 last week & just sold for $162.....man oh man!

I was at a second hand store with my nephew and found it there for $20. It is the first deck I have bought that I really like. Just started using it. I seen a deck on ebay, a woman is selling hers for a little over 300 dollars. I guess I got a bargain. I wonder how much they cost new, does anyone know?

Is there anywhere we can see the full deck. I love the moon card.

Has anyone trimmed this. Did it feel less flimsy trimmed? I find I like the cardstock to be thinner as cards get smaller.

Has anyone used this for affirmations or spells?

Yes, people have trimmed this deck, but beware - the image area is a different size between the Major and Minor Arcana!

I ended up xeroxing it on some heavy paper (reducing the size) and having it laminated. I made 2 copies that way and recently sold one to Queen of Spades. It's now a handy size, and much easier to work with.

I've looked for a page with the cards, and was surprised that taroteca doesn't have this deck! Amazing.

My recommendation is to just get the deck - it can be had for cheap via Amazon, and the box set is really nicely made. The court cards (particularly the Princesses/Queens) are just fabulous, my fav card from any deck is the L&S Queen of Pentacles. She's awesome! :D

Oh, and I also don't agree with Lee above (hi, Lee!), I do think that xeroxing the deck and coloring it is a great idea. You can see the tiny details that way (like the owl holding a teeny sword in the Princess of Swords, and the Frog in the marsh on one of the number cards (can't remember which offhand).

This is cool deck. I like some of the cards of his 'Pomo' deck too. I was an aspiring rocksinger when I was younger so I love the 'Pomo' fool card. Does anyone know how he passed on? He was a great artist.

Why not find a secondhand deck and try to colour it if you find you like the copies you have coloured?

hunter, I speak as one who was gloriously enabled by sravana last year on this one and haven't regretted it for a moment. The deck is stunning.

The cliché 78 works of art has never been more appropriate than in this deck. Every single card in the deck is spectacular.

It's late here; I'd rhapsodise much more if it weren't time to go to bed!

That happened to me after I had decided to trim my beloved Balbi.
What a waste!

Re: Light and Shadow - clearly a much under appreciated deck. It's quite brilliant !

I feel quite sick...I'm with you. Now, if someone messed up with the L&S, no biggie - it's, what, $15 to get a new one. But a BALBI. horrors.

Thanks so much for posting the scans!!! Wow, some of the cards are amazing. The deck isn't right in my search for another deck to use for magic and affirmations, but wow!

The bridge in the 4W. The man on the man's back in the 10W. The QW is so golden without any color. The bed on the moon card.

Well the story is a bit longer .....

I bought a BALBI on Ebay. Was listed as MINT.

Bought it in Europe, not going to bother returning it because the shipping alone would cost me a fortune.

Here's what's wrong with the poor Balbi:

Some sort of grape juice damage. Half the cards have a pinkish faded tint from liquid and they are all dried up so they're not flat.
Sad.

2 weeks later I attempted trimming it - the deck was trash already anyway.

Now I use them as greeting card inserts : )
