I knew this was familiar! The "querent" is Monty, from the comic strip of the same name. The strip was originally called "Robotman", but changed focus in about 1999.

Yeah that's hilarious, until you get a reading like that and then it comes back at you anyway. Then, it's time for the "How do I get out of this"? session. I hate it when that happens!
