I'm working on a new deck - it's almost complete and though I started it out in the more traditional way, I've discovered that it soon began to take on a life of it's own. I've been working with Gods/Goddesses such as the Hindu male/female aspect of Shiva for the Lovers, Isis for Temperance, Persephone for the High Priestess, Apollo for the Sun, Artimis for the Moon, and I'm working now on using Sekhmet as Strength.
Does anyone have any other Gods/Goddess that would work in the tarot.

The Ancient Eyptian Tarot shows Egyptian Gods/Goddesses in its Major Arcana. The Mythic Tarot shows Greek Gods/Goddesses in its Major Arcana. The Norse Tarot uses Nordic Gods/Goddesses. The list of decks that use Gods/Goddesses is pretty long. Look up any of the major cultures in the Tarot Deck Themes (http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/themes.shtml) list on the main Aeclectic site and you'll find lots of such decks.
(BTW, the Ancient Egyptian also uses Sekhmet as Strength (http://********.multiply.com/photos/album/347/Ancient_Egyptian#12).)

Sekhmet as strength would give it a different flavor, since she was warrior based, and was known to go murdering when 'drunk' and be unable to stop. Basically turned into a Kali type creature at that point. It may not be the best choice for Strength since one would need to be in calm control of a situation.
The Egyptians did have several male lion gods (regional differences) as well as the two female (Bast & Sekhmet), the males weren't as bloodthirsty as she was.
If you go to google.com and type in 'Egyptian male lion gods" you'll find lots of references. There's Maahes, possibly also spelled Mihos. Apedemek from ancient Kush (southern Egypt). And the female lioness headed goddesses such as Mafdet, who was based on the Cheetah. Mut. Mekhet and Pakhet who were all lioness headed. The Greek god, Hermes was a god of many functions. One of the things he did was to conduct the souls of the dead to wherever they ought to go. He was, in short, a psychopomp and as such he'd be good candidate for the Judgement card. I don't think I've ever seen him used as such, but it's an idea.
Loki (norse) could fill in a number of roles; the magician, the trickster, even death. The website below outlines his tale nicely.
