View Full Version : what is this?
ok, tricky question here.
i bought this milky/green stone a while ago and lost the note to it and forgot the name too.
photo can be found here:
It looks like my aquamarine. I think the ones we have are "cheap", but I believe that it is aquamarine.
i would have said, based on the colourations and inclusiong, a form of jade or a naturally polished "river quartz" (i forget the common name of that one) or else one of those mineral stones i can never remember the name of that are really common round here .. sorry i am not much help
nope, it is not aquamarin, it is more green and not really blue at all.
it got a name - something specific only i can't remember. i think it may be from russia...
or maybe not.
ahrgh!!!! you know, when i hear the name i am pretty sure i will recognize it. it is a rather new kind of stone though, i remember that i haven't seen it before.
but i definatly think it is crystal-based.
it got lots of inclusions of a softer gray/white mineral.
it might start with a k. or a c.
i bet it will come to me one day when i least expect it:)
thanks for the help though
I want to say calcite, but it's hard for me to see it.
calcite was one of my thoughts too, but there is something else I want to say, but can't think of it. With the green color, there is a copper content to it....hmm..
Well, it justs looks like the piece of aquamarine that I own.
Just a quess on my part but it could be aventurine. I have some aventurine but its a wee bit more green. Blessings Dakini
it looks like aquamarine to me too, honestly...aquamarine is often green (in fact i have a piece that looks very much like that)...though i'm not sure about the inclusions...
another guess would be flourite...though that tends to be more green than what you are showing in the pic...
other possibilities (though not what i would think of right away):
prasiolite (green amethyst)
hope that helps...:)
Reminds me of some kind of marble, actually! The marble floor tiles of my old house looked something like that. ;)
It has a very quartzy look to it. My other guesses would be:
Smithsonite (also called Bonamite)
Hemimorphite (also called Calamine)
I have a strong feeling it could be Euclase. Good luck! Ruby7
my feelings...tuning into the energy from the photo is...
chrysophrase...it also feels soft and silky fluid like aquamarine...but I would bet on chrysophrase...
yep, it think that is it! Chrysophras!
thanks for the help.
now what is chrysophras good for?
i just keep it around my computer for company:)
