or.... being politically incorrect but still hitting the mark. :D

I am on facebook where today I came across a readings application which interpret the card with more than a hint of humour. I was feeling groggy having just woken up really, but that did get the twinkle starting in my eye.

It made me wonder - has anyone ever come across a book that has, or collated their own collection of tongue in cheek interpretations based on the card image? Or, did a reading on any occasion lend itself to such an interpretation?

The only time it really happened to me was at a spiritualist church meeting where we were passing round a card and had to come up with one sentence as to what it meant to us. The Strength card from the Mythic deck was used, and when it came to me it was reversed. I said the first thing that came into my mind which was "Someone has got you by the short and curlies!" I have lived in hope since then it will come up in an appropriate reading where it is meant to be THE interpretation, but sadly I am still waiting :D

I may use this application for daily draws for a week or so and see if they do summarise my day. It will be interesting, but even if they do not apply one card a day in the morning will make me smile. May even add a sentence in the evening to give another tongue in cheek/politically incorrect way of interpreting the image. This is not me mocking the cards I hasten to add. Just letting the humerous side come through occasionally to bring balance to when we have those serious and heavy readings.

I must confess that this sort of situation happens to me all the time. I have a very deep and abiding love for Tarot, and my decks are my babies, but I also have an over-developed sense of the absurd, and was raised in a household filled with sarcasm, so my mind just automatically goes there.

Over the years I've learned to hold my tongue: during readings when a particular card will present a sarcastic reply of the querent's question which, while funny, is inappropriate to relate, or when someone shows me a new deck they're enthralled with, and perhaps The Moon card will reveal a naked buttock that begs comment, but it would annoy the owner of the deck. On this site, I've punned it up, or flirted with innuendo, but it's just for us ATers.

I think that in the correct company of other mature tarot card readers, and in private, we can share this humour understanding that it does not carry disrespect but exuberance and joy in every aspect of tarot. But a readings app that publicly displays inappropriate humour over the internet invites potential negative judgement against tarot, and there's enough of that floating around in the minds of the superstitious everywhere.

So, to our public, and certainly over the internet, it's better to be as professional as possible. And I mean this to apply in the other direction as well. Making the tarot a tool of power against a dull or easily led mind through "magic" is also unprofessional and horribly creepy. The cards need honest and upright readers to showcase them to the public, provide lucid translations, and encourage friendly relationships between readers and querents. (Sorry this was so lengthy.)

Hello!

Interestingly enough I see reason in both your replies, but yes, like in everyday conversation, not everybody shares the same sense of humour (if they have it, that is)...

I can't say my decks have a 'wicked' sense of humour but they sure are funny in their way of insisting when I ignore a certain issue: the deck I use more is the most violent and most of the times "explodes" and weird stuff happen with the cards, I might be the only one to find it funny, but hey. XD

Anyway, what is the name of the application? I'd like to try it too.
