Time for another train.

This one leaves Thursday July 8 at 2.00PM (GB) WendyWu time They are 8 hours ahead of me here in the pacific time zone if that helps you calculate your time zone at all.

Rules

A Trade Train is an online game which allows you to trade a deck you don';t want for one you do by participating in a virtual "Train" with other AT members.

If anyone has any concerns, questions, etc about the Tarot trade trains, they can be asked here...

At present three flavors of train have evolved: Regular Trains (which tend to be leisurely and chatty), Mystery Trains (which involve a story that players will solve while playing characters), and Bullet Trains (in which deck trades break the sound barrier).

That being said there are a few things for future and past riders to note. :)

2. Anyone on past trade trains who is still waiting on decks, please let us know. We're trying to keep track, but without a central notice of outstanding trades it's hard to know. If you ARE waiting for something from Trains 1-1000 please post and let us know.

The rules follow below; just look them over and feel free to ask if you have any questions. At the request of several people, I've included short and long versions of the guidelines.... if you do decide to join us, and you aren't clear about something, please take a moment to read the longer rules below the yellow soundbites below. :D

[color=yellow]SHORT RULES:
The Trade train is a fast, fun game that allows you to trade a deck you don't need for a deck you do by setting up a series of Stations at which Tarot decks are offered and chosen. :)
Each player is a "Station" we will visit on the trip for a set period of time, according to a randomly assigned order.
You may choose your deck at any time.
First player to choose a deck at a Station moves us to the next Station.
For Regular trade trains, the Station order is determined by preassigned random order.
For Bullet trade trains, the person who chooses a deck immediately becomes the next station to offer.
You will only offer when we reach your "Station."
Any kind of deck is fair game.
Riders may join the Regular Train during the ride (until the last 3 stations), but will not pick til the next offering/Station. Bullet Trains are locked down before departure.
You must complete a trade to keep your chosen deck.
Everyone who trades a deck will pick a deck. It's a win/win.
Each player must have fun.
It is that easy. As others can attest, these trains are fun, hilarious, and exciting.

LONG RULES:
ITINERARY: From the sign up list of riders, we will generate a random order of Stations. This itinerary will determine the order in which you will post your decks to trade. But you can CHOOSE at any time. This itinerary will be posted at the top of the thread along with a record all of the completed trades...

SPEED OF THE TRAIN: We spend 24 hours maximum at each station (i.e. person listing decks) before moving on to the next station. If/when someone picks a deck, the next person/station can list as fast as they want. So you have to stay on your toes and in theory we could go through the whole train in an afternoon.

OFFERING DECKS: You may list as many as you like, but but will only trade one. Everyone who trades a deck will get to choose a deck. Any type of deck is suitable: Majors-only, Pip decks, Oracles, Sets, along with full 78 card decks are welcome. You may change your decks as often and as fast as you like while the train is at your station. And remember, offering a better selection encourages every station to offer a better selection themselves to insure they'll place a deck. It's a win/win!

SELECTING A DECK: You can choose your deck at any time from any rider, but once you have chosen you may not choose again. If you choose a deck you must trade a deck to close your deal. This is a chance to expand our horizons for the cost of post.

NO TAKERS?: Feel free to tweak your offerings during the allotted hours of your station. If no one chooses any of your decks within the alotted hrs the train moves on to the next person/station below you on the itinerary. You will have a chance to list new trades later as when the list reaches the bottom it will go through a second time, starting at the top with the first person who has not had a deck picked from his list.

KEEPING IT FRESH / KEEPING IT NEW: Remember: the quality of each offering dictates the quality of every other trade... The train is only as snazzy as we make it. In order to keep the landscape surprising and to insure the train moves at a reasonable speed, please board the train ready to shake up your offerings. If there are no takers within the first 6 hours, consider changing your offerings. We encourage everyone to list at least 2 decks that are not repeats from the previous train. If a deck has not found a home on the previous train(s), its likely that people already own it or don't care to. If you list an offering identical to the previous train, and a trade is not made, we will move on after 12 hrs.

UNCOMPLETED TRADES: What If someone picks a deck, but the person that listed their choice fails to choose a deck for themselves? Unfortunately then the person that picked that deck would lose that deck. This sure will add some butterfly style excitement. At this point that person that lost their first choice would have a opportunity to re-choose in the second go-a-round.

FINISHING YOUR RIDE: After you have listed, traded away a deck, and accepted a deck you are off the train, but feel free to participate in the chatter. After you finish a trade please leave your decks posted for at least another 24 hrs so all those aboard can browse what they missed...

END OF THE LINE: No decks will be sent until all trades in the chain are complete or the train finishes two laps. This insures no one will be left out and also gives train members something to look forward to/worry about in the days ahead.

TALK: In-game chatter is highly encouraged!

YOU CAN'T LOSE!: You only give a deck if you get one. If after the second round you have not managed a trade you are off of the train, nothing lost or gained, unless you accepted a deck, you would lose that, And that train member would re-list.

JOINING THE TRAIN: You can sign up starting now. Also, anyone may join the Train at any time before the train reaches the THIRD TO LAST person of the FIRST ROUND. Then the train closes: no more tickets.

The internal workings for those who care: The itinerary of offerings will be randomized blindly. I've asked another rider to send me a mixed list of numbers equal to the number of people on the train.

Even more boring internal workings: With just 20 riders we have 1 048 576 combination's of deck combination's in all at just one deck. With a average of 3 or 4 decks being listed each the number is huge. To be in matched pairs takes it to 190 opportunities. SO with just 20 players we have collectively 190 opportunities to make a trade, imagine the numbers as we add cars to this train[/QUOTE]Don't forget about the library in that nook over there, there's a sauna and spa/pool downstairs, and private rooms in the mezzanine :D

These Trade Train things are a constant source of bemusement to me. I'll say yes and study those guidelines and if it really is beyond me I'll hand my place over to someone else.

I had a quick look just now at the yellow guidelines and - well - I'll give myself 48 hours to "get" it...

ETA; You mention Bullet, Mystery and Regular but I see this is a SLOW train (named in honour of me, perhaps?)

The train start thursday. TCO will put up a list of riders in some kind of order before it starts

When the train reaches you, you post your list and the rest of the riders scramble about madly to grab one deck from you. Once someone has picked from your list, the next person on the list posts their list of decks

You also need to choose a deck....from one person's list...anywhere along the way.

As long as every rider has picked a deck AND been picked from....I cannot for the life of me remember what I was gonna say :( GEESH...sorry Dude :D

Le Fanu -- you have to have your list when it's your "Station" to list them. No need to have it before (although most prepare in advance) and it's fun trying to guess what others may put on the train :)

I already have my list made up in note pad with links to pictures. I usually don't post my whole list at first. If it seems nothing is going to be picked, then I add some more choices. We stay at each list for 24 hours...unless someone picks, then we move on to the next list.

The end goal is to try to have everyone pick a deck, and give away a deck :) If someone does not pick a deck, which means someone does not get picked from, we have a *coughderailcoughdon'tsaythisaloudpeoplecrylol* and then everyone tries to make a side trade so the train lives anyway :)

As of last train though, NO side trading until the train pulls back into the home station *grin*

You can offer as little as one or as many as 100000 decks when it is your turn to offer up your potential trades.. You will see your name on page one of the master list, that will tell you who you list after. You can ask for a deck any time you like, before or after you trade a deck from your list. You get one deck only and you trade one deck only off your list...to the first to choose. Welcome to the train!

LOL...(((Sweetie))).... it just SEEMS complicated until you actually see it in action. Your question about what to choose, and when, is really the hardest part. Thing is, this is an opportunity to see "new to you" decks in hand....If you don't like, back on the train they go.

OH...and keeping up can be a tad difficult, as you've probably already figured out from the pub. ( some over there talk a LOT) :D If you come on after being away, be sure to ask for a link to the current list, rather than trying to backtrack and find it.

ETA...I spent a LOT of time wasted doin that :)

Train starts on the 8th...I'd be surprised if it lasted to the 15th....not sure of your travel plans. Also, if you "pick" early-ish and can post your list "early-ish" you'll be fine, but it's up to you Hon. Maybe this is just one for you to "stow away" on, get a feel for it all????

ETA...but to REALLY get a feel for it, ya gotta "pretend" you're on the ride...see if it interests you

I gotta put in a word for stowing away -- I've stowed away on more trains than I've ridden as a "paying" rider, and they're awesome either way! You get a sense of how the trains work, if you're too nervous about jumping right in, and you get to participate in discussion/looking at new decks even if you don't have anything to trade! It's like living vicariously at the Tarot Trading forum, with friends and chatter to make it more fun :)

So those that are thinking of not riding due to lack of decks...just stow away! The back booth is quite comfy on the train, I've kept it warm quite often...LOL

OK, I don't feel so bad about the fact that I've only got a few decks for the train. I agree with Wendy; I've not been over-buying (thus not doing the old "thumb-through-meh-I'll never read with it" thing) and I've had some good trades here on the train lately and though I've gotten new decks here, they are not decks I want to part with!

But - I just cannot bear not to be on the train - sign me up, please!

Talking of holidays (well they were in the other thread), I'm off for a whole MONTH. Two weeks of wan, languid nothingness and then two weeks at the beach house along the coast.

This is the only rest I get all year. I think it must be nice to have lots of little holidays rather than one. When it's gone, the pain is unbearable...
But for now...

Here most of companies give you one month of vacations every year - except in the first one. You have to work for one year in your compnay in order to be allowed to have vacations. So, for me rest will only come next year, around May.

And Holidays... they are so rare :(

Well. New pooter had this sexy MS Office (2007, but compared to my old Office 2000 it does everything but make the beds). But apparently just a downloaded trial version or something that the original owner had. Every time I've opened Word or Excel it prompts me for the registration key. Don't have it. So have closed/ignored the prompt. Now Excel doesn't let me do anything but LOOK at the spreadsheet in question. Sigh. So either I have to figure out this registration code dealie, or install the old Office on this pooter.

I had the strangest dream last night. My husband and I FINALLY bought a new house after looking for years (we have been looking for years) and one night it rains and then it begins raining inside. Pouring through the electrical sockets in the ceiling. Then we are peeling back carpet and there are two layers one blue and yellow, the other yellow and blue. Weird!!!
(This actually happened here - rather than rip up the carpet that was glued to the plywood, they just skipped underpadding and laid new carpet on top...) I think part of my reason for being afraid to move is because of the numbers of places we have seen with HUGE issues. Went into a house once during a rain storm and the wall of the room adjoining the main part of the house must have had leaking flashing because that wall looked like Niagara Falls.

Am I still asleep? I am babbling...

Are we talking about holidays? I don't know of anything like that. My boss just informed me today that summer vacation has been moved to 5 days at the end of September. Awesome.

I am lucky, I will get two weeks at the end of class before starting the next semester. Zan, you so very definitely work too hard :( Like my friend Kathy who says when she feels hard put, she thinks of me..when I feel hard put, I think of you. You work SOOO much harder than I do. (and probably most of us here lol)

Anyway Pepys wrote a wonderful diary, between 1660 and 1669 (I think) during which time he lived in London and worked for the Navel Board.
He lived through the Commonwealth, the Restoration, the Great Fire, the Plauge (sp?) and wrote nearly every day. Because of his work he had knowledge of much current affairs. There was a great version of his work published in the nineties in a volume for each year, with really good footnotes too, and I'm working my way through them. He was a womaniser, which I don't much admire in him, but he was an ordinary person in that respect, and went through periods of guilt, where he tried hard, and then he'd see a pretty face and be smitten again! Which of us has not lapsed?

I see we have moved the chat to here... Kewl, now I can just keep up with the one thread instead of two, LOL.

How is everyone.

I am doing pretty good. Even though money is getting tight, I had to go check out the new thrift store (clothes, shoes purses) today early as today is 25 cent day(til 1pm) for any item in the store :O. My pants were starting to get pretty rough looking so I figured I would go look and see what I could find for the family. I found some pants for me and some shorts for lil one and some shirts for my 12 yr old.

So now I get to get rid of the rough looking pairs of pants and replace em with my new to me ones.

There is no way I could get a better price than 25 cents an item.

I will be here off and on.

I tackled my closet this year.

I got rid of eighty percent of my old club clothes. I donated a vintage Victorian jacket that I had worn once in ten years. I made up a box of things I want to wear when/if I lose ten pounds. I filled two boxes with costumey things, and moved all the boxes into the storage closet. Now those things are out of the way, I can actually see what I have.

It's so liberating to open the closet door and not see a lot of things that belong to the past.

Mountain Standard -- 7:00 am
Central Standard -- 8:00 am
Eastern Standard -- 9:00 am

Australia has unusual time zones that I can't quite figure out BUT they're in the range of GMT +8, +9.5 OR +10

SO depending on your time zone add that number to the 2:00pm to make it
10pm, 11:30pm, OR 12:00 midnight. I think. LOL

And Zan is the same time as Kat I believe. SO I don't know there either :(

I was out. Gosh how this chat accumulates here. Went out to a Tapas bar catch up with some friends and caught the end of the Spain vs Germany game.

Wendy's worrying post about not having got her list ready, links etc has sent alarm bells ringing... I'm really not quite sure what to expect. I have no idea what/when/how I put my name to a deck if I want it.

Can someone please tell me when I have to choose and what decks I can choose from? I have a list written on a bit of paper in my bag...

I've got a feeling I gotta be quick!

Some of us don't bother with linkies, but it is a nice touch.

As soon as a list comes up, you're allowed to choose from it :) Hence, we all clamour like vultures for lists :D and get no sleep whatsoever while a train is on!I've got a feeling I gotta be quick!Ah - yes. Yis you do.

Here's an example of what to do when someone posts a list with a deck you want (either before or after you post your list):

LOL, LF you sound like my grandmother.

When we reach someone's station, they post their list. If there's something that's clearly want-able, it becomes a mad dash for who posts first that they want it. So if someone's list includes something people seem to want, say for example Anna K, you would just quickly reply and post, "ANNA K!" or some such. And then you get it. (Assuming you were first to reply)

So when the train starts, TCO will have made a list of the order of the stations. Each time we get to someone's station, we wait for them to post their list. People go all out with colors and links to decks, and photos of the train stations near them. Or others go simple and just post a list :P

Does that help? I had no idea what was going on my first time, either...

They used to last a long time, but the recent trains have become quite a mad dash. The length of the train seems to depend on whether or not people are at their computers when their station comes up. If someone is very busy, it can be half a day before they notice that they need to post their list. But if the timing works out well, the train can go by much more quickly...

Oh right! I thought a list of participants would be put up and in order everyone puts up their list and I had to choose a deck from the person behind me. Or after me. Whatever. Forget it...

How long does one of these trains usually last? A week? 10 days?

Am I the only noob here? Hands up other vacant-faced noobs!

There are a few noob's this time :). I find that I am here for about 1/3 of the "stations" (offerings)..the less you sweat a slow train the better time you will have. You happen to be first....The advantage to this is you can decide based on what you trade what will be acceptable to you for a whole train.

I have not made a list for the last three or four trains, I just wing it now.

I see I'm around #6 (or #7 if we get another rider, I guess). I'd better prep my list cause you never know, those first 6 stations could just fly by! I'll be around most of tomorrow and the first half of Friday.

Oh, this is cool, folks - Friday night I am reading from 3 until 8 by appointment only, and guess what? There is only one slot left - I'm all booked! This is still a big thrill for me, because I've only been reading publicly for a few years and a lot of that has been random; not like I'm doing it every weekend or anything.

You will be just fine. Get together a list of decks you have to offer...at your "station" post your list, and sit back and watch.

Don't try to keep up with the chatter unless you're on and chatting...then enjoy the chatter :)

If you've been off line for a bit, when you come back, ask for a link to the current list so you can "pounce" on a deck you want...DO NOT try to "find" the list lost in the pages of chatter...just ASK

Post a list....pounce on a deck of interest

I was a noob the last time and because I had so much time on my hands and all my work at the time was on computer, I was here almost all the time except when I slept... LOL! Pathetic, I know, but it was fun. That train was about a week. Once you have posted your station, the rest is easy! And your presence is only required to make your choice - so it's up to you and your schedule!

I think my trimmed Thoth will be happy there. Each one of these that I do, I learn something. The thick suedes are good for overlay, and lousy for stitching and vice versa for thinner stuff like the deerskin.

Nah, Yira, if I were working in an American university, my class would be deemed so incredibly easy that I'd be fired. The trouble is that Japanese students have no sense of having to study. They have this huge entitlement to do absolutely nothing for four years.

I would study for the test, and I'd get them ALL right, and I'd get an A, and be teacher's pet, and I could bring you an apple...do you like apples?? ROFL

Hiya Everyone,

How are you all?

I am doing okies, finally got lil one to lay down and go to sleep. I had to go spray some bug spray on 2 wasps nest that were near the garage. Hubby can't do it as he is highly allergic to them so I went and sprayed the nests and tomorrow will check and make sure they are gone.

Pics of the pendants still don't wanna turn out too well so is why the etsy shop isn't quite up and running yet.

Oh emmsma, I found some more books for Em, I will get them sent off tomorrow as I have to go to post office anyway.

That article on Blake was very interesting and at times obscure. Crowley can take the longest path to a point and the shortest. :laugh: I wonder what A.C. would have done with the 60's?? To him, Blake is supremely a Visionary - a sensory one - a 'scientist' exploring Imagination rather than Reason (the structure which AC thought was weakest in Blake). Fascinating!

NT - my ex knew as well, not to expect any attention at all while a train was on. I was married to the trains before we ever got together, so the train has precedence! :laugh:

Now, I'm off to site for a few hours. Got to go do my magic costume change in the phone booth - I mean, my car :D and then get out into the rain and look at some dirt!

Should take them about an hour I think. I was going to read, but I finished Abrahadabra on the train here. Was reading Liber Jugorum after that and started wearing a rubber band around my wrist for when I do a certain thing. It's the funniest thing. Huh. I guess between the test and the rubber band I'm both S and M at the same time today :laugh:

(Gosh, hope you get me on that one, Kat. The other trainnies won't have a clue what I'm going on about LOL. But really, does anyone ever?)

Aww, don't worry Emmsma -- I'm planning on going out for about 7 hrs! for school. I'd skip it because it's a yucky field trip anyway, which skipping is unusual for me (but I looove trains!!) but the teacher has an annoying habit of expecting us to LEARN things on the field trip...LOL

I did mention it was cruel and unusual punishment to make us go out in this heat and hike around the woods and fields...he just said bring your bug spray.

I almost stuck my tongue out at him but stopped myself JUST in time.... :)

Meh. No worries. Harmless rubber band snapping is all. Hurts after a while though! I have a naughty habbit of picking at my cuticles, and Liber Jugorum seemed like a way to fix that. :)

Aha! I wasnt dreaming! :D That is so cool. I had bearded dragons up until a few weeks ago (my oldest dragon passed away just recently:( ) but Ive always thought it would be awesome to have a tarantula (Im afraid of spiders, but I think thats what fascinates me the most!)

Kat, you've got me all interested in these Lenormand cards after last night! Id never heard of them before - now Im so intrigued! I thought they were awesome :) Reading up about them now - I knew I wasnt going to get any more work done today! hehe

I love talking Lenormand! I learnt from the Treppner course, which is done by a German couple and is really fantastic. It's quite traditional and less "intuitive" (and I have an innate HATRED of "intuitive" reading LOL, particularly with a deck that has such a rigid and time honoured system as Lenormand) so I prefer it greatly to the "No Layout" method.

it's all very calm outside there now, isn't it? Well, here it is, anyway. I hope it's not raining while I'm at yoga. The sound upsets me while I'm trying to balance and stuff.

I used to have horrible trouble balancing on two feet (yes, two - was fine on one :D) and would fall over all the time. Am now much better :D but the rain still puts me off. I think my sense of hearing, as much as the ear itself, helps me balance and the big open room with no ceiling makes the sound really off-putting.

that's my story, and I'm sticking to it LOL

I was a noob the last time and because I had so much time on my hands and all my work at the time was on computer, I was here almost all the time except when I slept... LOL! Pathetic, I know, but it was fun. That train was about a week. Once you have posted your station, the rest is easy! And your presence is only required to make your choice - so it's up to you and your schedule!

The riders are French stuntmen. They even did some work for the big screen, for example in A Knight's Tale.

This year we stage part I of the Arthurian saga. My group are black knights, so we support Mordred - he will even take up residence in our camp, which is sooooo fab, because the actor is a serious hottie:

I gave up eating chocolate cause it gave me spots, then i used new moisturiser...spots appear. It was the cocoa butter. I have the spots and missed out on the eating of the chocolate LOL
