Overprotective Childhood and Reading Tarot

NamasteIndia

I come from a very conservative family, there were not many people paying visit to our house. My parents were busy working and i was not allowed to interact with neighbours and socialise.

After college life became tough for me since i did not know anything about world and how to deal with people.

So overall I am a shy, introvert, frightened, sensitive person who hardly knows anything about the world and people.

Initially when i started reading tarot for people wrong people from bad backgrounds started approaching me. some with rowdy reputation and some with criminal

Then due to fright and fear i abandoned reading for people not because i did not like reading but because i could not handle people, their emotions and i was not good in talking and counselling.

Are there any person out here who as personality just like me....how do you find reading tarot for others?? Are you comfortable with it???

I think a confident, extrovert person can be a good reader compared to shy person.

My parents were a bit over-protective, certainly compared to my friends parents, but I also had ill health from 14 until my early 20's, and that left me very shy. I could barely buy a bus ticket or order food in a cafe!

The first job I had was in a department store so as far as interacting with many different people went it was really jumping in the deep end.

I am a lot better around people now, although it's easier in work. I don't like reading tarot for people I don't know, I don't have enough confidence for that.

yes this is exactly what i face. readings for strangers sends chills down my spine. and especially reading for male makes me shy...since i hardly interacted with men during my growing up years.

I can't imagine doing readings for strangers. I would be a nervous wreck. I might be persuaded to do one for a family member, on the condition that they don't expect miracles and that I look up stuff in books!

yes it depends on upbringing, genetics, personality traits though initially i was quite confident but after a while i developed unknown fears.

I prefer to read for people I don't know.
For friends it is more difficult. I do not want to disappoint them, or they might think, I tell them what they want to hear.
When I read for unknown people, I see the cards more clearly. I am not afraid to tell the person, that she might not find a job or that Mr. X is not Mr. Right. For a friend I am always thinking: How can I tell her, that Mr. X is not good for her? or How can I tell her, that there is no job in the near future. I do not want to hurt my friends.

This may be off topic, but maybe you are an empath and you have started reacting to others emotions. If you haven't been around alot people you may not recognize where the unknown fear and emotions are coming from and are intrepreting them as your own.
Just a thought :)

That's interesting that you mentioned being brought up in an over-protected way and being a reader. I also had that kind of upbringing (even though that was a long time ago and I am 54 now). And here I am being a reader.

I can be shy at times and that may be one reason that I prefer to read for others online than in person. But that is just one reason, there are many others too.

As for being a reader for me, in the end, it is not about me its about the clients. I have a passion for helping others that I feel is part of my life mission, part of my life goals. Being able to do that means a lot to me, and Tarot is my way of doing that. I am ready to read on most topics is someone really needs me. But at times my instinct will tell me that I am not meant to do a reading. You can feel it if that happens.

Also someone has to be genuine with me and really want/need my help. If I feel someone is playing games with me or trying to use me (happens on occasion), of course I have enough self-respect to not take on a reading under those circumstance.

I think it's interesting that you feel that extroverts would make better readers, NamasteIndia. There's a thread (here: http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=12143&page=1&pp=10&highlight=Jung) on personality types as described by the MBTI. Here's what that means:

Moongold said:
The MBTI (Myers Briggs Type Indicator) is a test which provides one way of ascertaining the way you prefere to act in the world.

Jung suggestd that there are basic two attitudinal types: introverted and extroverted and four basic functions of human consciousness: thinking, feeling, intuition and sensation.

MBTI is a test developed by two American women to determine the actual type of individuals. All the possibilities are represented by those somewhat strange combinations of letters.

The poll shows that most of the people who took this test were placed as introverts, not extroverts- myself included. :) I'd suggest you take that test and see where it places you. Understanding your own personality is a great tool to have, I feel.

I think it might be easier to be an introvert and a tarot reader, because we think over a lot before we say things. We choose our words carefully and we tend to go internally and not outwards.

I had a similar childhood experience as you did, NamasteIndia, and I find that while I'm not very good at connecting with people on a personal level, this allows me to simply state what the cards say. It's a matter of faith in your own intuition.

This is true.

Knowing how to choose the best way to word something is an important skill in being a good reader.
