View Full Version : The Matrix: tarot?

Lately I've been thinking that the movie The Matrix would be a good theme for a tarot deck. There's a lot of religious symbolism that could be interesting (okay, that and it's one of my favorite movies).

Couple of ideas for cards (slight spoilers for anyone who hasn't seen The Matrix Reloaded):

The Tower: Trinity falling from the building (anyone who has seen Reloaded knows what shot I'm talking about)
The Lovers: Morpheus holding out the Red and Blue pills, combined with an image of Neo and Trinity.
High Priestess: The Oracle
Two of Swords: Neo and Agent Smith holding guns to each other's heads (from the first movie)

I might one day try to do this, but right now I'm a beginner. That and I'm sure that seeing The Matrix Revolutions (the third movie) would affect how I thought each card should apply. But besides that, any thoughts on the idea?

Actually, a few days ago, I was thinking that Aeclectic Forum might be a Matrix. We're all hooked up to our computers and live virtual existences, and have life-like interactions, here on the forum.

And now ... back to tarot deck creation, the main subject of this thread.

i have never seen matrix!! - but i think a tarot deck would be an excellant idea ...... and im sure its only a matter of time. there is a massive market as this has become a cult film. my brother, who is NOT into tarot, says if there was a deck .... he would buy it.

perhaps trading cards would be a better idea.

Matrix Tarot already exist! It is created by Croatian artist Damir Stojnic and draft version can be seen on [url] at our mutual friend and Matrix fan who owns the page. The version published on puck is draft hand made version, the artist is at the moment creating final version

I clicked on that link and suddenly in my in-box of my Outlook Express I had about a million messages from that web-site. I honestly didn't ask for them - all I did was click on the link.

What a pain - I hope I won't get more of them. I didn't even have time to go and check out the cards you're talking about. But I certainly won't go back to the web-site to look at them.

Yes,

I also clicked before thinking and promptly got a new file set up in my mail system - presumably about to start madly downloading junk into my mailbox.
I have got rid of it - if you get spam from this site, check your mail file system and see if you have a funny looking folder that's suddenly appeared.

PLEASE - someone tell the guys who run this website that this sort of thing just irritates people and keeps them away from the site - it really isn't clever (even if the programming is nifty) and it is the sort of thing that gives us people in Eastern/Central Europe a bad name (btw, we would never put any programming like this on our site and we never, ever under any circumstances pass on people's email addresses - it is unprofessional and just plain RUDE to do so).

I'd love to see the pack - but I won't go back to this site until I know it won't spam me in this way.

What I've always thought was the beauty of myth and tarot is the flexibility to interchange and substitute symbols.

If the mythology of The Matrix works better than the mythology of the Greeks, Romans, Egyptians, and early Christians in someone's mind, more power to them if they fit the images that make sense to them into a classical format.

Moderator: I think that that post which gives a link to that web-site should be edited or deleted before more of us have this bad experience!

I guess the link to the existing Matrix tarot was a bit too true to the film! An evil link! I notice Mandragora describes an interest in hacking.

Please! It isn't really that funny. :( Think of your karma. })

Isn't there an issue of copyright with Warner Bros., or whoever owns the film rights?????

oh no!! I am sorry for inconvenience that I caused by this suggestion, the thing is, the owner of this page runs a newsgrup alt.clearance, and you probably clicked on link to that newsgroup causing for the newsgroup to download into your mailbox. here are numerous posts and articles by the author of the page and among them I was shure you will be able to find Stojnic's work, but alas, I apologize again. Also the trick with newsgroups is that in outlook express there is an option "unsubscribe, when you click it all the messages will dessapear.

I really hope that you will understand that from my part there were no malicious intentions, the owner of the site is an astrologer who keeps his articles and photograps (he often visits Venice and writes about it)online for ages. I am visiting his site from time to time, because I know him personally and ocassionally we discuss tarot, astrology and our experiences, artist Damir Stojnic is quite established young artist whom I also know and his Tarot draft version was uploaded on puck page two years ago. Puck page contains a lots of data and it may be difficult to browse, and I sencerely believe that the site is not purposefully set to spam computers.

It's okay. I think we all know that these things happen. But it is really, really bad practice to download a lot of unasked-for material into someone's mailbox (I didn't click on the mail-group link, all I did was enter the site and suddenly there was a new folder in my mailbox - EECK!)

It's also - to be honest - a very silly idea of "marketing" - all it does is annoy people and prevent them coming back. Please have a quiet word with your friend (who I'm sure means well) and suggest that he takes all this dubious programming off the site. As I say, I'm maybe particularly sensitive because it's exactly the sort of thing that makes people worry about going near any Eastern European site - most of which are perfectly fine and ethical.

Hope all goes well for you. Please let us know when it's safe to revisit the site!

Best wishes

I'd rather see Morpheus with the blue and red pills as the devil. NO Morpheus isn't evil but if you think of the materalistic sense it's sorta true. He's making you decide, either go back to your cage of materalism, meaningless sex and abuse of substances or you can devote your life to something more important, meaningful more wonderful than you could ever imagine; freedom. And you could enforce it by putting that one guy that wanted to be put back in the matrix behind his right shoulder. And Trinity is the high priestess, and.....

Anyways, it's a very cool idea.

Hmm, I never thought of it that way before (in terms of the Red and Blue pill being The Devil). Makes sense, and that way The Lovers card could be just a picture of Neo and Trinity.

If I had to put Trinity anywhere, it would be as The Empress (but that's just my opinion. I'm very much so a beginner here). Or at least a picture of her outside of the Matrix, where she seems more feminine. But I'm not sure if that's totally right either. For me, The Oracle makes me think of The High Priestess, just because I've always associated that card with intuition, and I think of The Oracle as being very intuitive. But that's just me.

For whoever posted before, I realize there's an issue with copyright. If I ever go ahead and design a couple of cards (which wouldn't be for a while, I want to get better at Tarot and I want to wait until the third movie comes out), it would just be for fun. It's cool that there's already a deck out there (even if people are having trouble seeing it right now). It just supports the theory that there's a Tarot deck for everything ^_^

I agree but not b/c of the intuition. I mean, in the movie she is a program designed to understand chaos or humans. And with that understanding she is able to guide neo to understand as well w/o telling him, she is showing him. That, to me, is the High Priestess.
