As stated previously, I don't trust pendulums since I could manipulate them very simply.
As a child, I somehow got a Ouija board as a Christmas Gift! {From SANTA!}. Skeptic that I was at the time, I knew that we we making the pointer-thingie move unconsciously. It sat around for years. Then I got into the 'scarey' side of the Occult and HID it for years. I finally gave it away to someone, telling them full well I never wanted to see it ever again.
Did you know that Ouija Boards are made by Milton Bradley in Salem , Massachusetts? :O :O :O

Personally, I have never liked Ouija Boards. Before I ever found this path, a friend of mine had a bad experience with one. He was playing with it alone and thought that he was communicating with a young girl who died at 15. All of a sudden, he got really weird! He even tried to choke me once. Understand, this guy had a huge crush on me at the time. (He was quite a bit younger than me) Well, by the time it was over, I found myself sitting in a Catholic Church, watching the elders do a prayer ceremony over him. I HEARD him speaking in tounges, and I saw a small metal trashcan slide across the floor right at on of the elders. Fortunately, after about 3 hours of this, everything just seemed to let go and he was fine. They said that whatever was trying to take a hold of him, we caught it before it had time to completely take over or simple prayer would probably not have worked. That very day I went to his house, took his Ouija Board and burned it! A lot of people won't believe this story, for a long time I convinced myself that I didn't believe it either. But the fact is, I saw what I saw. I no longer doubt that there are forces out there that we cannot see and should not mess with. It is also the reason I cleanse my pendulums and runes and cards or whatever else on a regular basis.

Hmmm, I had one by Milton Bradley too. I never had any really HORRIBLE experiences with it though, but then I NEVER used it alone.
I've actually wanted to try and find a really old one just to have it. Sort of like in the movie Witchboard w/Tawny Kitaen.
Yes, I believe in spirits... I've seen them. And sometimes they're scary. Maybe I'd better not find one after all....

Pendulums are quite fine..but Ouija Boards are scAry. I usually make my own when using. I only play is 4 times. Just..4 times. The one by Parker Brothers..are realy scAry that they already even 'install' a spirit in it ready for you -.-!
Hi,
I have had both bad and good experiences with the ouiji board. The key is to know IT IS NOT A TOY.. ALWAYS protect yourself and the person you are using it with. I cast a protection circle, ask that only my guides control the board. And know that not all the info is correct. When I cast I as that no evil from my world or their world be allowed in, but that doesnt always stop the spirits that is trying to make you feel better by telling you what you want to hear...
My Talking Board actually move with just me using it. I find it comforting to use (talk to my guides with ease). The only problem is it is not made very well and is wearing out. I was asked (by my guides) to have one made for me and use the pointer from the Talking Circle game...I"m still working on it..I sew, I don't do wood work..
I was actually told by the board that I would be getting a house this year and the price. When I heard the price I said "Yeh Right" it was about $60 thousand less than most houses in the town were were looking..WELLL..the house was listed for only $2,000 less than what the board said, add closing and guess what...the board was right (or was it a good guess??)
ALWAYS PROTECT YOURSELF WHEN DOING DIVINATION..EVEN TAROT....
tarotbear...hehe..your just so wonderful...of course the pen and board are gonna tell you what you want to hear..the spirits are just so awed by you they wouldn't dare do otherwise...
Blessings and a prayer for strong protection to you all.

My mom gave me a ouiji board for Xms when I was 17 (back in 1970) & I took it to college with me. Some friends at the dorm & I started with it - had no bad experiences - & eventually developed trance mediumship in '72 & weaned off the board as being too slow.
Then I sold the original board at a yard sale & years later made my own on a wood plaque with a craft store burning tool & letter stencils. I use a thimble for a planchet & it's nice for old time's sake, but automatic writing or trance journeying to meet with a spirit guide serves me better nowadays.
I use a pendulum (anything from a needle & thread to a quartz crystal on a chain) to help me determine when I've sufficiently tweeked my spell designs, i.e., to tell me I'm ready to roll. That seems to be approriate to come from the sub-conscious. I wouldn't rely on any single divining tool for major life decisions; but they're good to get me in touch with my center & what I'm feeling under the skin so I can be aware of my real wants & motives.

Ebay has a nice selection of pendulums under the metaphysical category. A pendulum gives you yes or no answers by swinging in different directions or can help you locate lost objects etc. I've had great success with mine and I've only owned one less than a year.
I'd never really thought of pendulums being in the same category as ouija boards, with ouija there are usually other people there but a pendulum is more personal - I've seen a spirit board being used, was upset after, not my idea of fun so never again and have used a pendulum with some success.
My first pendulum was a simple needle on the end of a piece of thread that I used to try and find out whether my unborn child was a boy or girl - it indicated a boy and I did have a son lol
I have a nice citrine pendulum now, feels nice to use and I have used it on yes/no questions. Sometimes I can connect with it other times not.
No need to hand over hard cash for a pendulum. You can make one from any piece of string, yarn, or embroidery silk and an object of sufficient weight to keep the string from curling up. A ring works nicely, or a stone with a hole in it or a jewlery-fixing connector ring glued on. As I mentioned, I've even used a plain needle & thread, with the needle as the "bob" at the end.
Different lengths of string get different results & are used for seeking underground water or minerals, even for locating lost people or pets when held over a map, as well as inquiries. For most personal questions, a piece of string as long as your forearm is good. Rest your elbow on a table edge so the bob hangs free. And try to relax :)
Ask the pendulum to tell you which way it will move for a yes, and then for a no, and for a "don't know, ask later".
Just word your questions so that they can be answered with a yes or no.
I adore working with my pendulum. It can now tell me yes, no, yes ... but, no ... but, and uncertain/unknown.
Oujia board games I played in the past as a young teen mostly. I had freaky experiences, I closed that door.
And after closing that door, I moved to a better neighborhood ... palmistry, tarot cards, pendulums.
Different tools work differently for people.
Come to think of it, besides yes/no, I've even used the pendulum to help me decide what color to paint my livingroom by holding it over those commercial paint sample color cards.
And then you can write down lists of things to choose from - get creative - & hold the pendulum over each choice & seek a go or no-go response.
I used this to design my garden & help select the plants to use & where to place them. Some plants I didn't know if they were full sun or shade-lovers. The pendulum knew & the garden grew.
Want to know if an ingredient can be used as a substitute in a recipe (or a spell :)) before giving it the acid test? Use the pendulum.
Yea, it's got lots of uses.

How can you compare a pendulum to an Ouija board? I'm confused by that already.
I do use a pendulum to help make decisions, but most of the time, it's to help me find lost items (and this happens a lot). The last time I've used it was to look for a tarot deck for a cousin of mine. Even though it was a used dragon deck of some sort, it was still a good deck for him.
Now onto the boards... All these horror stories I hear are always by the ones made by Parker Bros. (Is there some connection to this or what?) I found a board similar to the one by Parker, but it's more than numbers and letters (and hello/goodbye/yes/no). Other than that, it's got element listings, zodiac signs (western), common words and maybe more than that...
Aside from that, since I work with spirits all the time, I have to use one of these things, and I've never had any problems with it. Maybe the horror stories come from inexpirenced users or curious people who don't understand how such a powerful item works...

I have a 'kind of' pendulum. It is a chain and a large crystal that was given to me. I have used it to hover over the cards and help me pick one if I feel it is pulling me to it, but I havn't done that in a while. Does anybody have any good links about pendulum work with the tarot?

Actually, I don't feel that a pendulum and a ouija board are in the same class at all. The pendulum is, to my mind anyway, a tool for focusing your own abilities and sensativities. The ouija, as stated several times in this and other threads, is primarily a tool for contacting other entities outside yourself.
I've used ouija boards a few times with mixed results. Fortunately I've never had any terribly frightening experiences with one. Though one time a couple of friends of mine and I were using one (many, many years ago) and the letters seemed to spell out giberish... until someone pointed out that it appeared to be a foreign language. I'm sorry to say that what the message was is lost in the dusty archives of my mind, I seem to recall the language being French though. As far as any of us knew, none of us could speak French.
As for pendulums, I've used them a lot for many different purposes. I've used them for the usual yes/know/uncertain answers to questions. I've used them for finding placer gold deposits. I've used them for picking out which crystal, from several which attracted me, would be the "strongest" one for me. And, most recently, I used a pendulum to help me with picking out a quartz sphere for scrying.
Like Buzzbee, I have made my own pendulums, but I have also purchased them. I currently own three different ones; one is a Swarovski crystal on a chain, one is a rutilated quartz I wear around my neck, the third is one I made out of an shed elk antler (I also wear this with the rutilated quartz one). When I want to use either of the two I wear (wear them most of the time), I untie the cord I wear them on and clip them to a light chain I carry with me for this purpose. It works for me... ;)

Well, there are 4 main divination forms the general public knows about:
Tarot
Runes
Pendulum
Ouiji
I'd add in oracle cards & a bunch of other divination forms, personally, but for the general public it usually breaks down to the 4 above. I just figured Tarotbear wanted to tackle non-tarot & maybe forgot about or doesn't use runes? Hence lumping the last 2 together. Did anyone ask him?
tarotbear's post was written in aug. of 2001. my thoughts were that he saw them both as divination methods that could be moved by the person using them, even if they weren't aware of doing so.
(hg, i would have thought astrology, palm reading and crystal balls would be up there before runes ;) )

Somewhat irreverantly I began to think of some possibilities for combining divinatory systems:
Ouija + Tarot = Oui-jiT (Irish humour?) A widget?
Pendulum + Runes = Prunes (naturally enough!)
Astrology + Tarot = Astaroids? (sic)
It's certainly true that, as a "civilian" I hadn't really heared of Runes being used as a divinatory system - just as an alphabet. ;)
Macavity
or ...
Palmarot = Palmistry + Tarot ;)

Sound advice. And if you're asking how to protect yourself, you've got some work to do b4 you get started! :)
Thanks, CJTarot, from one New Englander to another.

I was always afraid of ouijui boards. I compare it to leaving your front door wide open. Anyone just hanging around with nothing better to do can wander in. Ouijui boards open up a portal to the spirit world, and it's an open call. Any malicious spirit looking for an in, will find it here.
Of course this is not always the case, but why take a chance !!!
I have a friend who used one on a regular basis for quite some time and she says even though she called to benevelovent spirits,
they are not the ones who found their way through.
I have used my pendulum with great confidence and success, much of this confidence comes from the experience in the store.
I tried out two others, and when I picked up mine, it jumped up and down on the chain. Almost like it was dancing. It chose me.
Therefore, I would trust it more than a ouijui board.
Also, I believe that the pendulum gives our guides a way to communicate with us directly. When I first got my pendulum,
I asked my guides to use it as a way to communicate with me.
I feel very peaceful and safe when I'm using it, it's feels as if my guides are truly present and communicating with me through it.
It's an awesome feeling to know that they can be so close to me.
I would suggest that you bless your pendulum again and ask your guides to guide you through it. It's far safer than a Ouijui
board IMHO, (In My Humble Opinion).
Blessings and Light,
Shadow Wolf
