View Full Version : Amoun Re Tarot???
Hi all,
Does anyone know what happened to the Amoun/418 tarot by - Robert Savage?
I’ve been away from this forum for a short time and had noticed that one of my best unpublished decks was nolonger on Aeclectic Tarot decks gallery part of this site.:(
Also to top it off I went to the site and find out that the deck is now just a private collection and will not be available to buy.:(:(
It’s a shame as I was looking forward to buy this deck when published.
What’s going on?

I'd like to know too. There was a thread on this deck only a few months ago, and it then sounded very much as though the work was going well.
Maybe this next bit is more a topic for the "Creation" forum (?)
but it may simply be that the artist has been defeated by the pretty huge issues of self-publishing. It isn't an easy thing to do - and for some people it's probably impossible (easier if you have experience in the process of artwork and print, but still not straightforward). It's a huge shame if this is what has happened.

That's the link to the thread that baba-prague mentions.
I was wondering just today where AmounrA had got to.....
His presence is missed.

The 418 / Amun Ra Tarot is still displayed on Aeclectic Tarot...

As far as I know the deck is still in progress, but I believe the artist is offline until August.

I am not to far away, but I am not around the net as often as I was before. (I have left two posts this week:-)
The deck is still very much in progress, but for several reasons I have decided not to publish it. I have had positive feedback from publishers, although they would expect a book and for me to get involved in publicity. Fair Enough, but perhaps better to bury the finished project and give it to my children in the future…and get straight on with the next project, ‘paintings of mountains:-)’
Art for me is, in many ways a medicine, a place to hide from the world and be free. I feel certain that the spell will be broken if I allow myself to become distracted and too open. The deck in many ways leaves me open… to attack and temptation.
I believe a few cards are in this years tarot calendar, so in a way some are published :-) (a % of money raised goes to the excellent aeclectic!) Who knows perhaps in 15 years my kids will seek to publish, I would not stop them.
I hope this makes sense
:-)

Good to hear from you!
I can totally understand!!!
I had my own reasons too, but don't worry about coming under attack! It's your own personal choice and remember you DON'T have to explain ALL the reasons one reason basic reason is enough(it's private for a start)
Also those who do attack or speculate are more often to have green eyes.
Hey what creative soul wants their medicine taken away, it's also my drug more
than anything, with lots of tried, failed & successful projects. + I learn something
each time, which can't be bad. You should come to my old home in the Alps in the S.France, but Scotland is good too of course.
It's a bit sad for myself and others who are foaming at the mouth for The Amun Ra Tarot. So I will just nibble you instead of biting.:D
Good luck with your forthcoming works:*

Hi,
Yes, I understand - and I don't think anyone will attack you for this. It's your work and your decision to make. We in fact came very close to not publishing our deck at one point - for different reasons maybe. It's not a decision to be taken lightly and if it isn't right for you at this time, only you can know that.
Best wishes for your paintings of mountains - sounds great and I hope you'll let us see some of the work.

AmounrA:
That deck is beautiful, but I totaly respect your decision to focus on continuing your art. That's the kind of decision that the muses have always noticed and rewarded in my life :-) Art for its own sake (rather than art for other, art for money, art for fame) is all too rare in our culture. Good luck, I have no doubt you will continue to create beautiful images.

I too understand and respect your decision not to publish.
I have to say though that I`m just soooooooo disappointed. This is a deck which draws me back to it again and again. I discovered this deck when I joined Aeclectic 18 months ago and have been waiting for it to be finished.
It`s beautiful and seems so much like Thoth.
Ah well.....................
Love and light

Thanks all :-)
Maud, I am actually planning on painting some of the alpine peaks. Mont Blanc is on my list of mountains to paint second only to the Matterhorn . The scottish mountains are certainly beautiful, Skye & Torridon are extremely beautiful.......but to live in the alps ! Now my eyes are green :-)
Baba, Bill & crystalmynx, Thanks for your understanding. :-)

Dear AmounrA,
It shows that you know quite a lot about the Tarot !
Nice work!
Good luck with your new projects,
sincerely,
Bram S.
I just posted a comment on this deck in another thread, (http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=13982) and wanted to post something about it in the Tarot Decks (http://www.tarotforum.net/forumdisplay.php?f=15) section of the forum, because I think this unpublished deck is the work of a visionary artist whose tarot images show creativity, brilliance, and insight. I think there's something to be said about decks that recast familiar tarot images in the light of different themes, but the decks I'm really interested in are ones which showcase the work of a visionary who's operating from a profound inner vision. And this deck showcases that quality to me far more than a lot of the most popular and respected published decks I've seen... I don't know if it will ever be completed or published, but I just wanted to share my respect and praise for it.

Some time ago now, AmounrA gave me this link to his own website:
http://mysite.freeserve.com/418_TAROT
You can see some of his cards there in more detail but they are spread a bit over the website. I don't think AmounrA has been around here lately...
I don't think AmounrA has been around here lately...
And he is GREATLY missed.
noby: Thank you for your post. (One of the last times he posted, he explained that his deck will not be published, and gave the reasons for it. The thread must still exist somewhere.)
Thanks for the feedback and information, folks... it's cool to see others were/are as floored by this tarot art as I was/am. I have indeed gawked at all three of his websites (Phase 1, (http://mysite.wanadoo-members.co.uk/418_TAROT) Phase 2, (http://418beta.mysite.freeserve.com/) and Phase 3 (http://amunre.mysite.freeserve.com/)), and have reviewed some of the threads he posted in before he left, and am disappointed to find that he won't be publishing it, but I suppose there's at least some hope that he might scan and upload images of the entire deck if and when he completes it... but mostly, I just wanted to express my enthusiasm for his art and its visionary qualities.
