View Full Version : My Favorite Crystal and Why

17-08-2011, 17:13
What is your Favorite Crystal at the moment and why?

Mine is Aquamarine
I spent my childhood by the sea and I always miss the sea so Aquamarine takes me back to those sandy shores.
It is my birthstone and I recently read somewhere here that birthstones usually have a stronger effect on a person than most other stones. Aquamarine clearly has a strong calming effect on me and it makes me take everyday matters in a more lighthearted way -which is something I often need.

Mine is Malachite.

I first realized this on a trip to Arizona. We were taking a tour of Canyon du Chelly by the natives and of course at the head of the canyon they were selling hand-crafted jewelry. I purchased a bead necklace of this stone because it just seemed to glow and shimmer under my hands. I have liked wearing it ever since and it gives a centred sense of calm.

18-08-2011, 01:36
I had a very hard time deciding between jasper and agate, but went with the agate! Specifically, Moss Agate. (but I haven't met one that I didn't like) I've always loved the mottled or swirled stones.

I laugh every time I read its reference as a Gardener's Stone because I am not good with plants. But, it does feel like I'm carrying my own Secret Garden around with me. It's a peaceful place that can't be stirred or jumbled up by crazy thought & emotional jumps- my own or anyone else's.

18-08-2011, 01:58
whenever i have a chunk of citrine in my purse, i win some money playing the state lottery or scratch-off tickets...not the jackpots YET....

18-08-2011, 02:00
It wasn't listed...but SELENITE!!! Because I use it all the time!

18-08-2011, 06:36
My favorite is rose quartz because it is the only one I get a feeling from, and a good one at that!

18-08-2011, 07:36
My favourite crystal has to be Selenite too. I have an angel grid made with it, a Selenite crystal ball, tea light holder and a small tower. I just find this crystal really peaceful and relaxing and I love the way it catches the light. Its also good to meditate with to.

18-08-2011, 08:56
I love Rose Quartz, have always loved it. Who doesn't need abit of love in their life ? :)

18-08-2011, 14:58
it probably sounds wrong , but I love them , my birthstone <3 it is just so beautifull , hard strong durable <3 god, you really cant blame me , and if you do Ill blame it me being a taurus lol...
and I dont own any D:

but love obsidian too , it just the one stone that I alkways relate to mexico , the aztecs mayans and all of them for some reason, even if it wasnt their most precious stone.

I can get lost just looking at obsidians , its like looking into the night itself , like solid darkness
(dont ask me why I like that I feel safer at night too) and I can never make up my mind as to wich one to buy I want them all they-re all special <3

19-08-2011, 01:55
I selected Quartz - other for clear Quartz crystals. I just find clear quartz crystals so magical and beautiful but also like other variations such as smokey Quartz and Amethyst.

19-08-2011, 03:55
I have way too many favorites...hard to narrow it down.

But in the end I chose OPAL

It's changeable, and extraordinary, and can be flashy or subtle. It comes in different colors, and different forms (my favorite is boulder opal...where the little bits of fire peek out from an ordinary looking rock)
It has many interesting legends associated with it...including silly superstitions about it being bad luck (thank you Victorian diamond exchange!) and I love how affordable and beautiful it is.

(To an extent I also love moonstone, Labrodorite and citrine)

I couldn't have said it better myself other than to add that I love NATURAL quartz with inclusions. There are some spheres that I have that have too many inclusions, and some others that have too few. But I have a couple that hit the sweet spot of being nearly perfect.

21-08-2011, 05:39
Yep - another for natural quartz here. As it comes, rough, and not cut/polished at all. Certainly not wire wrapped. Hate it when that's done to a stone I love, I always feel like it traps the stone. I like them free, and wild. And then when you feel them, it's the raw power of it that comes in with a whoosh and just floods you. And I get that most of all with natural, rough quartz points.

21-08-2011, 18:48
Diamond just because:

I associate it with my marriage :)

It is so INCREDIBLE that such an amazing gem is made from the same stuff that is used for pencils and also that is part of us. Carbon is intriguing stuff.

I love lapis lazuli too but not with any emotional attachment. It's the colour.

I'm going with my only crystal (so far) - moonstone. When the light strikes it just right, it glows this luminescent blue that hints at the energy it can retain.

I'm looking forward to charging it under the next full moon and seeing that blue light from its primal source.

Dusk Till Dawn
22-08-2011, 01:01
Not listed, Sugilite. Love the color range on my Necklaces. I even had to get a Back up necklace. LOL!
It seems to calm me down, people are nicer when I wear it.

I did re-charge mine, when that special Moon was a few months ago. You should try to take a nap with it then, watch what happens.

Its so difficult to choose just one, I opted for flourite I think its my favourite but I may come back tomorrow and edit this post :D

It was so hard to choose ....

but in the end I chose Labradorite. This is because I love how it can look like a dull grey stone until it hits the light and then you get the flash of iridesent color. I find it to be a protective, strengthening and grounding stone and good for seeing through appearances and getting to the heart of a situation. I always sleep with some under my pillow.

Other favorites - rose quartz, clear quartz (I like using the combination of Labradorite, rose quartz and clear quartz). Jade and fluorite

22-08-2011, 20:24
Turquoise. It's earthy and ethereal both.

22-08-2011, 20:49
I chose lapis lazuli because I love the pyrite inclusions that make it look like the night sky and I love dark stones. I have a black agate pendant too that has tiny silver inclusions in the stone and that also looks like the night sky - beautiful.

I'm quite partial to moonstone and amber too; it was very difficult to choose :).

Mine isn't on :(

I would choose Obsidian because it's dark and glassy and masculine and has such a rich scrying tradition, that even the tiniest piece of Obsidian- to me - holds magic!

I'm just an irrelevant *other*

23-08-2011, 17:54
Oh, Im sorry.. Ill try to add a few choices there soon.
At least Obsidian, Selenite and Sugilite have got votes but are missing from the list..

23-08-2011, 22:49
Lapis lazuli as well as green moss agate (not on the list). I don't have any rational reasons why I love them, other than they seem to be calming and comforting if I need physical, mental or emotional TLC.

24-08-2011, 00:18

Pyrite is also missing from the list, it's another one I love. :)

24-08-2011, 03:44
For me, I've always been partial to amethyst I don't know why maybe because I find it really calming when I hold it. I also love moonstone being a cancer, I'm just drawn to it. I think I will take a nap with it and see what happens.

24-08-2011, 05:54
I love malachite because it's a beautiful dark green, and I love the waves. It's so flowing and curvy, not straight-line crystal like other stones. My second, more intellectual, favorite is one of the most straight line stones there is--selenite. It's pure and white, but with more softness, warmth, and mystery than quartz.

I have a small malachite sphere and a medium selenite sphere. Never tried scrying with either, but I think they would work well. When I get up the nerve!

24-08-2011, 06:29
It's a tie between amethyst and rose quartz but I'd go for rose quartz. It's such a pleasant energy stone, and whenever I'm down, I hold my rose quartz and feel better. And its a super gentile non intrusive stone perfect for all occasions.

24-08-2011, 15:32
I added Obsidian, Selenite, Sugilite and Pyrite.

08-09-2011, 05:10
clear quartz crystal, especially clusters

I keep them around my bedroom. I sometimes place them on top of decks. If you have a quartz CLUSTER, they don't need to be re energized like just individual pieces of quartz.

I am currently looking for a jet necklace or ring. If anyone knows of a good place to find one, please share. Obsidian and onyx seem easier to find at a decent price. Most of the jet I've seen is quite expensive.

here is a jet ring on Etsy.com. If you do a search under "all items" or under jewelry for "jet ring" or "jet necklace' you will come up with hundreds of items - some are real jet, some are just the word jet used to describe stone color - but there are authentic jet pieces in there.

cool poll!

For me I just love clear quartz crystal. I think it is so beautiful, it never gets old. I could look at it all day I love it so much. The clear quartz crystal spheres and points are probably the favorites in my collection.

Almost voted Quartz-other but decided to just vote Other. Wonder if all the other Quartz-other votes are for clear quartz?

23-09-2011, 20:38
Wonder if all the other Quartz-other votes are for clear quartz? I checked and yes, they all are for clear Quartz so I edited the poll and changed "Quartz other" for "Quartz clear".

23-09-2011, 21:41
It's a tie between clear quartz and amethyst really, but I voted clear quartz in the end. There's just something about these stones, they always make me feel better no matter what. Too stressed? It calms me down. Too listless? It motivates me. Too confused? It helps me see clearly.

But amethyst is always a favourite too, since I was a child. I just love it with a passion, not sure why.

24-09-2011, 17:12
I've had a fascination for clear quartz since I was small and saw a picture of it in a science book. I was amazed by the thought that a ROCK could be TRANSPARENT. Come to think of it, I'm STILL pretty entranced by that idea. :)

I'm especially fond of quartz points and spheres. I've have loved them anyway, but once I got into the metaphysical aspects of them, it just strengthened my affiinity for quartz even more.

25-09-2011, 20:14
Aquamarine resonates with my name, my north node (astrology) in Pisces and my love of the colour blue.. so many other reasons but it just shines for me.. but I did think long and hard just ONE fav?!

09-02-2012, 19:21
i think my favorite has always been amethyst. I got a large dark violet amethyst as one of my first crystals almost 20 years ago and it's been with me ever since. the color is beautiful and the energy is such a smooth velvety cool feel to it.
Clear Quartz comes in a very close second, it was the first crystal i ever got, about 25 years ago at a fair... 2 old friends :-)

10-02-2012, 20:15
Rose quartz is my favorite. Hence my web name. I have always loved the color pink, especially this stone. It is so gentle and calming. Amethyst comes in a close second.

11-02-2012, 03:11
Moonstone. It sits by my computer and I use it sometimes when meditating. I also charge it up under the full moon when possible, it makes it seem special somehow. It's not the prettiest stone but it has significance for me because of the moon connection.
I used to love tiger's eye but not so much now. I've always loved amethyst but it doesn't have the special meaning that moonstone has :)

12-02-2012, 15:17
I love rose quartz since it seems to calm me down when I feel stressed out, and i found it effective in rekindling love back into my relationship :-D

Next would be amethyst, because it is my birthstone and i've always been attracted to the deep purple color.

21-02-2012, 17:04
I love so many crystals, their colours and textures, but for the simple usage and energy my favorite is Selenite. I really feel this stone and it can put me at ease within minutes. If someone doesn't believe crystals have energy I let them hold one of these. It's very powerful.

21-02-2012, 18:10
so hard to choose just one!!! a few of my fav's:

pyrope garnet
shiva linghams
tiger iron
rainbow moonstone
rose quartz
petrified wood

21-12-2013, 12:30
There's just something about it that I find particularly uplifting, especially during meditation! I just bought a sugilite pendant that I look forward to combining it with during my next meditation session to see what kind of results I get!

21-12-2013, 13:53
Aquamarine: It makes me dreamy and invokes visions.

I love all kinds of crystals but aquamarine has always been special to me. I also love to carry citrine, and slices of agate. Mother of pearl and abalone (although not stones) are other substances I love to look at and touch throughout the day. It's lovely to have the sea, the sun and the earth in solid form always with me.

22-12-2013, 09:16
oh my! this was soooo hard to decide because I love each and every one of them. In the end, I went with Tourmaline, though since I have them everywhere and wear them quite frequently. There is just something about their strength and protective power that gives me great solace. If it weren't on the list, my top three other choices would have been quartz, agate, and amethyst as these have real staying power.

22-12-2013, 09:56
Ooooh, I love so many, but hands down my favorite is Carnelian. I love how it feels when I have it with me, love the color, its strange softness, Carnelian is hands down my favorite.

My top 5 would be
1. Carnelian
2. Black Tourmaline
3. Fluorite (and Fluorite w/ Pyrite)
4. Peridot (My birthstone big surprise)
5. Tiger's Eye

I love so many more though!

22-12-2013, 10:09
I voted for smoky quartz, but actually my favorite crystal is elestial quartz and, since learning how much I love elestial quartz, the elestial versions of other crystals. Elestials give me the feeling of endless depth, with as much exploration and adventure as I can handle. This feeling has proven true over the years. There are smoky, citrine, clear, amethyst, and included-quartz elestials in the family, along with elestial calcite, fluorite and one elestial emerald!

At first glance some elestials may appear plain or ugly. However, once you get to know the family, they are all beautiful!

22-12-2013, 10:34
I chose sapphire, as I have been wearing a pink sapphire for months now, and the deep, rich pink of it makes me think and feel self-love! It's the warm fuzzy slipper stone :)

When I have to socialise at a party, I wear blue sapphires, because they keep me so calm and so centered.

My other fave crystal that was not on the vote list is garnet. I love garnet in any colour or form - I just relate so strongly to it! I don't know why :)

Apart from that I love prehnite, peridot, any kind of topaz, rubies, citrine, and Vesuvianite. I love black or green tourmaline, and I love eudialyte...and clear crystal, Labradorite, Alexandrite, and selenite. All big faves here :)

ETA nearly forgot - Black chrome diopside, otherwise known as Star of India. Love, love, love :)

I adore crystals and the beauty they behold. I always carry some or one with me everyday.
How to choose??!!

The beauties which send my heart aflutter are:

1. Opal especially Fire Opal
2. Ruby
3. Rainbow Moonstone
4. Fire Agate
5. Black Tourmaline
6. Labradorite

Probably my list is endless but then thats like crystals themselves. An endless array of gifts from the Earth.

24-12-2013, 05:07
I chose clear quartz because it's so versatile, and the different configurations of it means no two are just alike. I'd also have to choose obsidian, though, to be perfectly honest. I have a bipolar disorder, and holding onto a piece of it can be very comforting during the depressive episodes.

24-12-2013, 10:39
I am partial to grounding, protective stones, mainly:
- Tiger Eye (especially the red variety)
- Onyx
- Hematite (I'm endlessly drawn to its density & weight, resilience, and shiny surface)

But my all-time most prized stones (in the form of pendants) are my Aquamarine set in Rose Gold, and Watermelon Tourmaline in Platinum setting. Both gifts from my husband <3 Ametrine is another attraction, but I've yet to find the perfect one at an affordable price..

24-12-2013, 14:30
Eilat (King Solomon's) stone. It's very beautiful when polished. Here is a picture of my Eilat cabochon.

30-12-2013, 04:13
has to be clear quartz crystal clusters....LOVE so many...but clear quartz crystal is in almost every room.

31-12-2013, 20:31
My favorite crystal wasn't listed, Sun stone, I love the warm energy of this stone, I wear it on a longer chain so that it sets on the center of my chest. It brings me energy and optimism. I also have a large sphere of it that I light a candle behind, doing so spreads its warmth throughout my house.

01-01-2014, 08:57
Its hard to really say my favorite one, but I decided after thinking about it a bit, that amethyst is my fave. I just find it so beautiful to behold, both raw amethyst and especially a nice polished amethyst. But, in all honesty, there are quite a few in the running for first place. :)

10-01-2014, 05:12
My favorite is angelite. It helps me to connect with my angels, and gives me a sense of calm and clarity every day I carry it with me. Second to that would have to be white jade. I love the look, feel, and vibrations it gives off, and it resonates perfectly with my angelite. :D

10-01-2014, 05:34
I received a beautiful black opal as a gift in December. It fires off laser beams of color that are just unreal. It has also some how made me feel more confident in life and just over all healthier. I love it!

16-01-2014, 17:01
My favourite is Citrine because I felt a strong bond with it. I never quite felt like that with any other crystal before.

But I also really like Rose Quartz since it's really gentle and quiet.

I think I only have those two mainly. When I walk into a shop that has a lot of crystals on a shelf, their energy feels so chatty and makes me a bit dizzy. So I try to only get ones that feel quieter or mute.

17-01-2014, 06:41
I adore "Labradorite", and the lore surrounding it. It's just a beautiful stone, with beautiful energy.
However my favorite crystal is the "Sacred Seven Stone". It is such a high vibration, I was shocked when I first picked one up. They are kind of expensive though, so as of now, I only have one raw stone, and a small polished pendant. :)

I chose Acquamarine because the color just soothes me like no other. And it brings me good luck . Always. My second choice was not listed: the expensive Saphire.

27-01-2014, 13:47
Garnet, of course. It is my screen name after all. I started with it because it's my birthstone and my great-grandmother left me a garnet ring. A bigger tumbled one was among the first few stones I bought the very day I started working with crystals. I've always loved the color, and it has good energy. My other favorites are any type of quartz (especially Macrocrystalline varieties) and anything with a shimmery or iridescent effect (like labradorite and moonstone, among others).

I love all kinds of crystal, and my real name means a kind of gemstone :D

However, I love CLEAR QUARTZ the most, for its unique color of transparency that none can compare with. Transparency is the best color to me. Clear quartz is pure, yet gorgeous and brings a lot of positive energy.

Diamond is my 2nd favourite crystal, as it is a symbol of high-ranking and luxury. "Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend", said Marilyn Monroe :D But it's too expensive that it can be on my wishlist only T____T

I also use amethyst and rose quartz for my tarot decks.

28-01-2014, 17:13
I've always liked the colour especially when there are golden streaks through it. Lapis lazuli is also related to the the Medicine Buddha - Sangye Menla of Tibetan Buddhism. The first mantra I received from a Tibetan teacher, about 35 years ago, was for the Medicine Buddha.

28-01-2014, 20:57
I love so many, it's hard to name one, but lately...

AMETRINE!!!! How pretty is that? Looking at some nice huge rings lately, getting ready to break the bank.

01-02-2014, 16:39
I have no idea why but ever since I saw it, STIBNITE has been my favorite stone! I purchased a huge, expensive piece and I obsess over it every day. Not only is it visually stunning but it just makes me feel so alive and vibrant and "in-this-moment". It's a very grounding stone. I never thought to look up its properties but maybe that would give a hint to why I'm so attracted to this one.

16-02-2014, 13:08
I love crystals but you asked at the moment, so i voted for quartz clear.

25-02-2014, 05:50
I chose Lapis Lazuli, although it's probably tied with sodalite, which isn't on the list.

I first got into crystals when I was pregnant with severe anxiety and didn't know what was going on. Apparently I have a lot of emotions stuck in my throat and lapis lazuli helped (sodalite helped with nausea more though). I'd say these 2 and rose quartz together saved my life. I think i cried the first time I touched Lapis Lazuli in the store.

08-10-2014, 19:49
I'm not surprised that clear quartz leads the poll... It's reputation as a powerful healing stone, a cleanser, and space clearer, the amazing configurations it comes in, it's clarity, and inclusions, all speak to me powerfully. I love virtually every crystal this beautiful planet gifts us with, but on the opposite pole to quartz, I adore a beautiful, black, petrified wood that I find in one of my favourite places... It grounds, where quartz takes me on a ride! If I wrote a 'favourites' list hundreds of crystals long, I'd be doing my mineral friends an injustice :-)
I  crystals.

12-10-2014, 23:06
Oh, Im sorry.. Ill try to add a few choices there soon.
At least Obsidian, Selenite and Sugilite have got votes but are missing from the list..

Don't forget Peridot!

13-10-2014, 00:18
Added! :) (it is at the bottom)

01-12-2014, 04:01
I love moldavite and larimar so damn much. It almost like a personal connection that can't be describe. I really want to make a bracelet out of these gemstone so I can see it anytime and wear it everyday.
But I learn that moldavite is too fragile in hard way, chipped my precious three times....

I also love clear quartz as it is the one who make me learn and welcome me to the world of crystal and stones :)

01-12-2014, 05:14
My vote is for Quartz (clear).
For all it's amplifying effects (so whatever you intend, or whatever your attention is on - so may it be amplified. Plus they're easily 'programmable' - so they're versatile.).

But truly - it's more for a rutile quartz. Clear with inclusions.
Specifically where the inclusions appear like skinny silver needles bunched together - as opposed to the skinny gold/coppery needles which are usually labeled as rutile.
I've seen this once, and I also once had a small pebble of it which I cannot find anymore (maybe misplaced or given away). For some reason this is fascinatingly pretty for me.

"Getting to the heart of the matter" - is a theme for included quartz.
That's appropriate. I like attention to detail. :-)

I voted Hematite. My current obsession is Angelite and Celestite, but Hematite and I go way back. :)

When I was a child, we went to Death Valley, which was about as fun as it sounds. x_x However, where we stayed, there was a gift shop, and there I found a necklace of hematite chips. I was just so drawn to it. My parents kindly bought it for me (likely in an attempt to get me to stop whining about the heat).

I decided that the hematite necklace would be my "healing necklace." That was just my intuitive decision back then. And while the rest of the vacation was still very uncomfortable, I swear that necklace helped.

Sadly, it broke years later and now I can't find the pieces (though I suspect I saved them in a baggie somewhere). I'm currently looking at different pieces online and will be getting a "worry stone" type tumbled one soon. :)

24-06-2017, 13:33
I really, really love all of them because, well, they bring me an unexplained sense of happiness, peace, and joy. I could just stare at them for hours. I sleep with stones by my bed. I have them throughout my home. I use them alongside my readings. Stones/Crystals/Minerals are one of my most favorite things in the world. They are all so beautiful in their own, unique way that I could not ever choose just one! I like mine raw, unpolished, natural.

My current top choices in no particular order:

Clear Quartz

ETA: Goodness, I almost forgot my beloved Celestite!

24-06-2017, 23:41
I tend toward the plain and ordinary, but Quartz--clear quartz is so GROUNDING. And I discharge quartz: when someone who is very angry, but swallows the anger, has been handling or had a quartz piece near them for a while, I will pick it up and it is like a lightening strike. It all grounds out through me. I don't love that, but it is a power I have. So I vote clear quartz.

25-06-2017, 01:05
My favorite crystal and why?

Sapphire I love how rich the colour of blue is and seeing older film stars wearing them dazzling diamonds yet my eyes drawn to those blue stones.
something deep about them the heart of the ocean Titanic, Elizabeth taylor, Jackie O, they just stand out when you see them.
white or clears tones I feel are cold yet blue sapphires feel deep and mystical enchanting.

an inky sky at night with no stars when it looks electric I love that moment of stepping outside and the sky being that way its quite rare.I feel as if I could easily swim inside a sapphire when looking at one. They have depth.

I do have some but they are small I dont have someone to buy me large sapphires.

My gran had a ring and I keep it close eventhough I was told its only paste jewelry and to throw it out! its set in gold and I aim one day to fix it. I just love them since my gran showed me, made me think she was a galmourpuss and she was. I see it as old hollywood glamour.

if it turns up with diamonds and platinum for free I wont be turning it down. The man might have to go back but I may keep the goodies!

25-06-2017, 10:38
Iolite. Definitely Iolite. It's the color of twilight; my favorite time of the day.

25-06-2017, 12:34
Labradorite -- I've had it follow me around on travels, as in I'd see it in different places along the way. I feel like it's exactly what I need on a personal level, it calms me mentally. I can enter a deep meditative state when I hold it, quite a magical, protective, healing influence.

27-06-2017, 01:07
I'm drawn to Fluorite. Its clarifying properties are so wonderful and hone in on purpose and direction. I love to meditate by placing a wand near my heart and breathing deeply. Clear mind = clear heart.

27-06-2017, 15:02
Amethyst is my favorite because....purple! And because I love its many uses and variations. I have several standard pieces of amethyst that I use alongside my tarot cards to spark my intuition. I have some pieces of amethyst that are a deep, dark and stormy purple color, from a very old mining region, which are excellent for dream work. And I have a piece of "indigo child" amethyst, pale and multi-faceted, that I like to use for meditation and self healing.
