I see a bit of a rise in folks starting the 21 Ways study, and I just want to drop in to encourage you! I completed the first round, and it was very valuable to me, both personally and in my tarot studies. (I never completed the Adept round . . .)

So, you who have just started, or who have started and not finished:

Keep going! You'll be glad you did!

We had some comaraderie going back then, and that might be a good idea for current folks, too. You might want to post some encouraging comments to each other in the step threads.

Good luck, and have fun!

I just finished through step 3, and all I can say is WOW!! I have wanted to do this study for a while, but got caught up in IDS studies. This is a great way to really "dig into" a card. It is so worth it. :)

I started it two years ago and never completed it. Now I have just started again. I hope this time work and everyday life chores won't get in the way again. :)

Having completed both the Apprentice and Adept rounds of this a couple of years ago I cannot recommend this enough. Not only did it make me a more confident and well rounded reader, it also helped me grow as a person. I chose a deck that I had never used and did not really feel connected just to see how it would work. The connection I developed with the deck I used will be everlasting. 21 Ways is more than learning how to read tarot, it really is a beautiful journey.

I have this book out of the library, and am thinking about buying a copy for myself. If I flake out on it, as I have been with almost everything, then I can at least pass it on to a tarot-loving friend.

I'm trying to decide which deck to use: Deviant Moon, Druidcraft, Halloween, Fantastic Menagerie...

I was just telling someone about this. I am wanting to do it too. Hmmmmm, what deck???????
OK. Time to check in with intuition & see what deck gets to be the lucky winner! :D

I've had this book for a few years and never really studied it. I am so glad there is a study group like this here! Choosing my deck with be the biggest challenge in this study, I think :D :D

Hi Hemera & Fractalgranny. Nice to have others to share this journey. It will be slow going for me as I will only be able to do the study when I have some time to spare.
Peace, compassion, light & love.

I'm brand new too, but I've been a lurker on Aeclectic Tarot for at least a year now. Right now I'm in a very difficult turning point in my life. I just left my partner of 8 years, and had to go to my brothers family for help.

I'm 25, with the feeling of no self-worth, hope and sorry for existing to everyone near me. My sister-in-law and brother have been extremely supportive, and understand that I'm not an easy fix. Because I grew up with no life skills (even my brother went through this), I'm having to put order in my life.

I figured Tarot would be the best way to get back into my spirituality, and keep me on track.

When I found this study group, I finally had something to do with my Steampunk deck. I got the book, and looking forward to working hard at it. My goal is to complete all 78 cards using the book as guidance.

Hi sladie:) Nice to have you join us. Jump right in (oh, I can see you have already done that ) It is sometimes a bit quiet in here. People come and go. But don´t let that disturb you. Just keep those posts coming.

I'm slowly getting my life turned around, and decided that if I'm going to do Tarot, I should really get to know my new deck. A friend gave me a PDF of the book, and I've been reading it slowly, as well as the threads here. It's really interesting and I'm looking forward to what I might learn.

Thank you.

Merry Meet every one!

Ok so I've joined the ODW circle/group/ thread if you will this week and I have vowed I will only use Tarot of Vampyres and oracle deck till atleast Beltane this year.
Doing the daily draws and doing a big spread reading a week are part of my rules but want to really start to know this deck so...

I'm joining this thread as well. I am only using Tarot of Vampyres ( by Ian Daniels) as I want this to be part of my ODW challenge/adventure.

I am back showing love to the tarot after life taking over a bit and I am jumping in the deep end and going for it wherever and whenever I can.

Join us! BB Amber

Joining :D Actually, you posting in Step One is what made me notice the threads here, and as a new ODW'er I completely agree with your idea about how this will benefit us in understanding our chosen decks.

I'm using the Dark Carnival Tarot and I'm not entirely happy that my card is the scary-looking Hierophant/Ringmaster, but I'm looking forward to getting to know him better and coming out on the other side with understanding and appreciation.

Tarot has always been important to me but I have gotten a little out of touch with the deeper resonance of it...the journey of self-discovery and oneness with the world around me. The Ringmaster may be intimidating, but he's also the one who invites us into the Greatest Show on Earth...and isn't that what self-discovery, plumbing the depths of my own mind and spirit, is all about?

That's not a bad interpretation ;) It's the One Deck Wonder, using just one deck (or just two, one with illustrated pips and one Marseille-style) for a certain period of time. More flexible than the IDS, which I crashed and burned at a few years ago!

Wow, I am really stalling on Step 4. It's not that I can't write a story, I just can't write a short one, and I don't want to have to tell some big long thing and then retell it in the first person for just as long! I suppose I should just DO it and not worry about how much work it is...and it looks like Step 5 is reasonably short. (Not easy, but short.) Okay, I can handle this, really. (She said encouragingly to herself.)

Well, it took a week, but I finally did Step 4. For a long time I was stuck trying to stay with the literal meaning of the illustration, I just couldn't come up with a story about a ringmaster and two clowns in a circus tent. Then I threw all that away, looked at the picture as if I'd never seen it before, and just saw a man with a magic hat. And it wrote itself all at once! (It did wind up fairly long but I enjoyed it.)

Okay, I'll let my brain breathe for a while and take a look at Step 5....

When this book first cameout there were four of us workig together in this forum and we tried to motivate one another and stick to a schedule. Problem was life got busy . I finished the regular one and most of the adept but I left my deck at home I might finish the adept now I just need to see where I left off.

Kind of interesting how the exercises that require us to interpret other cards from the deck (like step 8, part 1) are often difficult for me, but when I get to the same exercise using 'my' card it comes so much more easily! Not that this is preventing me from reading other cards, it's definitely helping in fact because I can use the steps I've learned so far, but "my" card feels like coming home.

Oh yes, this is so true! Im thinking.. just how well would I get to know my deck if I would have the time and energy to walk these 21 steps with each one of the cards.

I've been thinking the same thing!!! I think it wouldn't quite fit in the time period of the 78 Weeks project, because it would almost certainly take more than one week per card even after we've gotten familiar with the steps...but I am tempted. Maybe I will do it with the Major Arcana, at least.
