View Full Version : left hand, right hand does it really matter?

Ok I'm being serious and here's why........
I've read over and over you should hold crystals in your non-dominant hand.
I'm a lefty which would make it my right hand......but.....I had to learn to do my job right handed.....and I've been doing my job for almost 24 years now. I'm NOT ambidextrous......I only write with my left hand.....but my right hand gets alot of use too.
I hold my crystals with my right hand but I really can't tell any difference from one hand to the other. (other than I'm used to holding them in my right hand)
So I'm curious if other people can tell the difference and use their non-dominant hand or just use what feels comfortable?
Also is it better to clench your fist around the crystal or hold your hand open and sort of "cup" the crystal? (sorry not sure how to word this) I tend to clench my fist but then I'm not always sure if it's the energy of the stone or simply my pulse I'm picking up on.

Hi Spiral, may i chime in?
I'm a righty but do things a lot (and sometimes better) with my left, but i don't consider myself ambidextrous either. I think that's beside the point though...
As to "hold your crystal in your non-dominant hand" I normally use my right hand when handling crystals. Maybe i'm not sensitive enough *shrug* i dunno, but i don't feel a difference between holding in one hand or the other. Sometimes i'll use one hand, sometimes the other.
The only thing i do the same way is cleanse/charge my crystals. I use white-light visualization to cleanse and reiki to charge and i always cradle the crystal with my left hand with my right hand cupped over it.
As to how tightly i hold onto the crystal, my own personal preference is an easy loose and comfortable grip where i know it wont slip easily from my hand, but i'm also not so tightly that it seems like i'm trying to squeeze water from a rock.

I find myself in the same situation as you are in. Although my main concern is that I think I am really a right-handed person who only got used to writing with my left. My parents weren't there to guide me when I was learning to write. And recently, I am teaching myself to write using the right hand. In which gives me the same quality of writing as with my left. That really confused me a lot when some sites said to use your non-dominant hand since I'm not even sure as to what my non-dominant hand really is.
And about that pulse thing. Can anyone answer DownwardSpiral's question? I seem to be confused as well. I sometimes feel a pulse, but I notice that the pulse follows the same pattern as my heartbeat does. And when I feel a pulse, I'm not sure if I'm imagining it or not.

Oh my God this is funny : ) I tend to hold the crystal at the bottom of my fingers and then wrap my fingers over it. Sometimes I will get a real strong tingly feeling....but.....sometimes I can also get that feeling just by closing my hand without the crystal in it. So I guess I need to try holding it in the palm of my hand.
I'm not that sensitive either but I love the "idea" of being able to pick up a crystal and really feel it's vibrations.
Thanks for sharing how you cleanse/charge your crystals : )
I guess for now I'll continue to use my right hand as that's more comfortable for me.
earl......being left or right handed isn't something you are taught (usually) Babies learn to grasp with both hands and at some point start to prefer one hand over the other. I have heard many stories of people who used their left hand but were forced to learn to be right handed. I do hope your choosing to write with your right hand is a personal choice. Just curious when you feel a "pulse" is it always with the same hand?
I'm curious if anyone's tried one hand versus the other and if it made a big enough difference to continue using that paticular hand? I've also seen several times that if your working with your third eye to tape the crystal to your forehead. LOL does anyone do that? To me that just seems like it would be uncomfortable.

Ok this is a lie because I can pick up on other peoples energy without trying or wanting to for that matter.....I was thinking about my hands though as they don't seem to be very sensitive to the crystals.
Maybe I'm expecting too much? LOL or maybe my crystals just need to be charged?

Downwardspiral, for me it is my left hand, which happens to be my non-dominant - but that isn't why I use it to hold my crystals...they just seem to work better when they are aligned with my heart. I have noticed that I also prefer to wear rings with big crystals on my ring finger, which is traditionally aligned with the heart...anyways, when I hold them in my left hand, they get quite warm, almost hot, and I feel totally connected to them.
In regard to taping things to your third eye spot, I wouldn't advise it - it will be more likely to give you a very sharp headache than it is to help ;) - not to mention how painful removing tape from skin is ;p

I have read many false things over and over.
Energy is not privy to left or right hand, as as near as I know energy flow moves in all directions, and paths from the input. I suppose if your crystal lacked the energy to fulfil its purpose that you had in mind based on entry point, where you place it would matter, but the odds of that are slim.
I am a ambidextrous lefty.

I've also used a crystal wand laid lengthwise on my belly when meditating, that worked amazingly well too. I think you just have to experiment and see what works for you - probably all crystals have spots they work best in - for instance, wearing blue topaz at your throat is very good for helping you speak your mind...or wearing a rose quartz crystal lower, near the heart, is said to be very healing for the heart...

Ok you're not alone on this one : ) Still I wondered if people could really feel a noticeable difference from one hand to the other because to me they feel the same.

no problem, and I hope you work out how you want to use your crystals. Remember not to place them near computer terminals...that can also give you headaches, specially with amethyst, for some reason ;)
I did want to add, if you want to do an effective "third eye" type meditation, it can help to spread several small amethysts in a kind of "crown" position over your head - so, lie down, and place the crystals at least a few inches away from your head in a curved line - you know, so it kind of follows the line of the top of your head. They shouldn't be touching your head. I usually place them about 4 inches away, and that seems to work. Soothing, and yet energizing at the same time... :) I'm betting lapis would work very well for this too. Have fun exploring how to get your crystals to work well with you!

I have quite a few new crystals to work with and I think you're right when you said to experiment to see what works best for me. I've never heard of making a "crown"......that would be alot more relaxing than holding the crystals.
None of my crystals are anywhere near my computer......haha and it's gonna stay that way : )

Well, see, that's the thing. No book can tell you what will work for *you* - I have always found working with crystals to be very intuitive, and whatever way you use them, they seem easy going enough to help you along, in most cases :) There are only a few that I find hard to work with - I can't use opaque stones, they do nothing for me, though I do love them...
And turquoise makes me feel nauseous ;p lol! So you see, you will find your way.
I find it easier lying down, because then I can surround myself with them - I have even done "cleansing" that way - surrounding myself with an outline of crystals :) it feels really neat!

The energy flows no matter which hand the crystal is in in my opinion. In the areas of magic, it is typically taught that there is a difference, as one hand is for receiving energy and the other is for sending energy. Which one is the sending hand depends upon if you're a lefty or a righty. Crystals work for me either way. I am left handed and my right hand is more sensitive to feeling. I'm a mechanic by trade and my left hand has taken a lot of damage over the years. It's the one I do most things with, so it has more 'mileage' than the right. Basically, I feel with the right hand just because it's less damaged and thus more sensitive. Personally, I don't think it matters which one you use.

@ Hiding in Shadows.......I agree....the energy will flow in either hand. I use my right hand as much as my left hand (just for different things) so it just doesn't seem like it's more sensitive to the crystals. What keeps coming to mind is this......have you ever ran bath water and you put your hand in to check how hot it is......the water feels nice and warm to your hand.....LOL but when you step in it's so hot you have to step back out? I was hoping the difference would be something noticeable like this.
@ Lotus Padma.......I can just see myself surrounded with crystals and my son walking by : ) Actually I'm glad you shared this because I want to use some crystals to send healing energy to my foot so I know to try more than just holding them in my hand.
I have Tiger Iron and I carried this stone to work 2 days in a row. LOL I felt aggressive and very irritable so on the 3rd day this stone stayed at home.
