View Full Version : Deck with No Images At All

I was wondering - anyone want to try an exchange with me using a deck with titles but no images? I actually have a deck of 78 pieces of card with the Ironwing card names written on them and I know I can read with that. However, I haven't tried with a deck of 78 pieces of card with just generic titles written on them as in Queen of Cups (which in Ironwing-speak is the Madrone of Coils and hugely evocative as soon as I think the name).

Anyone want to try it? I was thinking two or three card spread (in for a penny, in for a pound) and both read and leave feedback for each other. If anyone wants to play we can take a couple of days to create our decks, and then choose a simple spread.

sounds like it is sort of like reading with a playing card deck, but instead of 52 cards, we'd have 78, to include the major arcana and the page. is this correct? So, could I use a deck of playing cards and add the extra cards from another playing card deck to participate? Or, I could use 78 index cards that I label? I'd be interested in trying this with you, if one of these is acceptable.

Well my idea was that you just write the titles on 78 cards - no images of anything at all, even of pips .... and then read.... would you be OK with that? Index cards would be fine :).

I'd be interested in trying it with an index card deck as well :)

Great! The more the merrier; if there are several of us we can do a sort of round robin thing.

At the moment I have it that:

wendywu reads for CelticNoodle who reads for Idyll who reads for Wendywu

Anymore come in and I'll either split us into pairs or set up another threesome (depending on numbers).

Now, spreads - any three card spread that you think you can read with. In this instance I think it has to be up to the reader, because this isn't an easy ask as readings go :).

Shall we say - make index card decks (or use any card we happen to have) over the weekend and then plan on readings happening next week? Would that suit everyone?

Ha. I think Anna said before that she's done that in the past. 22 or 78 (I forget) slips of paper.

Sounds like fun, I'd like to try.

Do you think with this, that what you'll be "reading" are your memory of what the cards mean, and your internalized images of what the cards look like? For instance, if you draw the Two of Swords, you'll see the mental image of the blindfolded woman with the two swords from the RWS, or the crossed swords with the 5-petaled rose, or whatever card/cards you are most familiar with?

In other words, is this an exercise of memory and visualization, or something else?

Great stuff :)

Shall we go CelticNoodle and JD, and me and Idyll ?

Card making happens over this weekend, and reading happens starting Monday? It might help if we tell our partners a focus, if we can possibly think of one :).

I think for me, at least, it should be mainly the something else because it's yonks since I read a deck with bog standard titles and tbh if I visualise cards I see Ironwing cards, but for that I use their real names. I don't see Ironwing if I use standard RWS titles; I don't actually think/see much of anything at all ...... this should be interesting!
