View Full Version : New here -- can you direct me around a bit?
Hi, I am new to Lenormand and was looking for threads that show examples or even explain how to link the cards into a 'sentence'. Do you know what I mean? I've been looking at them as like tarot with positional meanings, but I'd like to learn how to really link them together. I tried the term 'card linking' but it didn't seem to yield much.
Many thanks!

I can't think of a specific thread, but in general you could check out the daily spreads section to get a small idea, but there are a couple of threads that might help. For example, there is a particular one where the learning circle discussed the Signification of the Mice Card with respect to other cards...
http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=155869
It might help a bit with the "how we go about it..." without rewriting the book on it. That said, you basically think about the card's general meaning, in this case mice. Then think on how that first card will affect the 2nd card.
Here's a quick example: "Will I be able to sell my house?"
Mice + House + Mountain + Stork
Mice + House; imagine Mice in a house. What would you say to the person?
House + Mountain; next, thinking about the things you said about the Mice + House; then Add what that mean in House + Mountain. The mountain is usually a blockage, so Mice in the House; Blocks what? Stork... Stork is Change...
What in fact the cards might be saying is that there are problems with the house that are preventing it from being sold.
Hope that helps, and if you have more questions, feel free to participate in the various forums. Someone has recently organized a beginner's study thread. You might want to join them. :)
Regards,
LE
Thank you, that mice thread was very useful. Did you ever start another one? Because I think one per week or month would be very popular!

Hello and welcome to the forum! :D
You might be interested to check out "our classroom", we are going to start this coming week-end April 14th and 15th. We will learn the meaning of each card and their combinations as well as diverse layouts!
To find out all about it please follow this link:

Looking forward to have you study with us! :)
Rather go and check the Free Sources threads (the stickies at the top) and a couple of websites like: www.serenapowers.com and www.lenormand.eu . Trust me. ;) Then come and join our monthly readings, learning means working with the cards. There is no and will never be another way. :)

The system I use, is similar to a sentence:
Card 1 (noun) + Card 2 (adjective), so whatever is in card one is described by card two, and it follows on. It's simple, but I find the traditional methods often are and have stood the test of time.
I did post on a defunct forum, and then the TABI forum, a full example of how I do it. It's on my blog - but I'm not sure I can post a link. However do check out MamaWhodun and Alyna's blogs - they are excellent sources to help learners.
All the sites that Ronia posted are excellent too: I'd recommend highly that you get a meaning list, learn those meanings, and then interact with the cards - on the threads here, in your own journal.
Getting the "language" that the deck speaks is the biggest hurdle, and the only way to learn it is through sheer practise. Don't mix and match though. Be consistent and you'll get there.
Thank you, Andybc, I looked at your blog and read yesterday's entry. I will look around it a bit more for your sample readings. I am learning the meanings of the cards now and did my first small reflection on a card on my own cartomancy blog. (It's my homepage, just click my name it you will see a link). I would be so grateful if you could have a look at it and see if I'm on the right track. I don't want to stray into creating my own attributions, but I do want to internalise the meanings.

This is good advice, I intend to read as many threads as I can! I've already been thinking of a few combos and what they might mean, while walking to work this morning. I was thinking, hm, if I drew Mice+Key, would that mean a what I thought was a solution will turn out to be nothing but trouble--or could it mean I've found a way out of something malignant!

Don't know if you might be interested Carla but there's an excellent Lenormand study group running on Facebook :)

Hi Carla! I'm glad you found the thread useful. Lot's of good pointers from other people too, and yes, I see that you joined the study group so you're all set!
I might do more of those threads, but I honestly don't have enough time on my hands to run it properly... However, when I do have more time, I might just write some more.

Are there still Lenormand reading exchanges? I know that there used to be, but I haven't seen one around in ages. I would love to get some extra practice.

I used to organize a monthly reading exchange, but dropped it when the threads moved to the reading circles section:

I used to organize a monthly reading exchange, but dropped it when the mods made things more difficult for me to manage, so I stopped. They moved the threads to the reading circles section:

That's a shame. I used to enjoy those :)
