is it ok to place tumbled citrine or bloodstone "directly" in ur drinks without any barriers (such as in a ziploc bag or a jar etc...)?

I'm not a crystal expert, but I think it would depend on the type of drink you combine the crystals with?

I don't think there would be any major adverse effects if you placed the stones directly into your beverage, but there could be some extra reactions occurring from the stones/crystals due to the chemical differences from the drinks. Kind of like nothing too acidic or basic, etc.

Just a thought :)

[I'm definitely curious to know though...]

I would make it a chunk big enough to not swallow...

Bloodstone - the 'silver-black' one? Isn't that full of Mercury?

Dropping a clear crystal point that was programmed for something into a drink should be relatively safe since crystals are silicon, which is inert. But stones can contain many 'natural' but harmful poisons - they are stones, after all, not something to be consumed. Mercury, arsenic, etc., all occur naturally in stones, so putting one in a drink for some 'New Age Effect' would make me pretty suspect.

I have seen oils with a stone in the bottle - but the oil is rubbed on - not consumed.

DISCLAIMER: I am not a physican, I am not a geologist, I am not a stone practitioner - but I do have common sense.

hmmm...even rubbing an oil on your body would allow you to absorb toxic things, imo...almost faster than by drinking it!

But tarotbear raises an excellent point...it would be very wise to know what the stone is made of before imbibing any liquid it has been sitting in!

In my Crystal Bible (The Complete Crystal Handbook by Cassandra Eason) she states that to make an elixir with a crystal, you place it in a small amount of water in a clear glass on a windowsill during a full moon, and to drink the liquid in the morning, after removing the crystal from the water - while focusing on the things that you want it to do to heal you. Hope that helps. :)

In some crystal book I think I remember the author using a clear crystal in water but different colored bottles - probably for different chakras.

You're right that some stones are toxic and need to be in a baggie or in a glass immersed in a bowl in the sun (like this page says (http://www.crystalage.com/crystal_information/crystal_waters/)), but I don't see bloodstone listed as toxic (http://www.crystalsandjewelry.com/metaphysical_healing/toxicstones.html) or here (http://www.healingcrystals.com/Crystal_Cautions_Articles_1009.html), or here (http://www.thewitcheshouse.com/#/toxic-crystals/4563337666). Others are right though, research the stone to be sure. When in doubt, go indirect.

that was an awesome post, and so informative, LaurelBelle - thanks so much! :)

A really useful little book is "Gem Water" by Michael Gienger & fully explains the different methods of making gem elixirs, what's toxic and combinations for healing. In answer to your question Citrine and Bloodstone should be fine in water as they are both quartz based but if you're ever unsure then prepare using an indirect method. Citrine would make a lovely energising water.

citrine is safe, as is rose quartz and clear quartz. Do not make a gem elixer with bloodstone, not safe. Gem elixers are fun to make and experiment with gem water and taste the difference between citrine and other safe stones, just consult a toxic stone list (ones that have copper or other metals are to be avoided).

Let us know how it goes,

I've infused energy into beverages in a different way.

We buy distilled water, so there are always some bottles of it on hand in our house.

As I've posted elsewhere, I make wands. Along with the ones crafted for others, of which some are seen here, I have wands that I've made for myself.

I have taken a sceptre wand (quartz sphere on one end, quartz point on the other) and aimed it at each bottle of water in turn, directing energy into the water. There's no doubt that THAT method won't introduce toxins into the water.

So if you have a wand, or a crystal point, that's one way to energize your water and not worry about what chemicals are contained within the stones themselves.

Wands like the ones referred to above can be programmed, as the sphere on the end and the point are clear quartz. This includes programming them with the energies of any stone whose energies you would like to impart to the water. Ditto for a plain clear quartz point.

Stone elixirs can be quite powerful. The most in-depth book I have found, recommended by a stone-savy friend, is Gem Elixirs and Vibrational Healing, Vol.I, by Gurudas. A stone or stones (rough or crystalline) are placed in distilled water and after a time drops are placed into water in order to dilute for drinking. The elixir can be stored in a glass jar and labeled for later. In this way, one can create elixir stone combinations. The book has combinations for a wide variety of conditions. If I wanted to learn about elixirs, I would start here.

Another way--my usual way, perhaps I'm lazy--is to play with stones energetically. Energy recognizes no barriers, matter being congealed energy. If I want to clear, balance or do anything else to water or food (Reiki does a fine job), I place stones nearby or simply ask them to participate from a distance and/or another time. No need to drop stones into one's drink, other than interest and of course, fun. ;-)

One day I placed a large dry-looking jelly opal into a container filled with tap water. It sat on the kitchen counter awhile, then my cat started drinking the water! "What? Isn't that a little strong?" I asked her. Apparently not. She stopped requiring waterhole (toilet) access and drank the jelly opal water for years. After that, I asked which stone would like to sit in Popurrie's water, then I placed the stone into her water bowl. She enjoyed the game and let me know when it was time for a change, or that she preferred a different stone. She was a small cat with the stone tolerance of something huge.

Cats!
