About a year or so ago I was very good friends with a person I later believed to be to be full of negative energies. Quite possibly evil. She was into a new age way of thinking (so I thought) and I taught her to read tarot. I gave her my set of my Rohrig cards as a gift.
Another friend then replaced those same cards for me. However I found that I couldn't even take them out of the box let alone read them. I felt as if the ex-friend would be able to see my readings. So my question is can negativity manifest it's self in this manner?

If you think it , then it will. Watch what you think,you can manifest anything. Mabee those cards are not for you to read. Don't let your friend have that much power over you! Read with another deck & keep that deck for later on down the road.

meydi: I don't think the negative energy can manifest itself in your deck the way you believe. However, I think that this deck has too many bad memories for you right now to use it.
Do as ros says, put it away for now and read with another deck. Something very different. (If I were you, I would even trade that deck for something on the Trading forum. You can always buy or trade for a new one if later on in life you want the Rohrig again.)

Don't let this person bully you in this way - be strong - I agree with ros and Diana. The only thing that can hurt you is your own fear. Be positive, forget this person and enjoy life and your cards (whichever deck you use)
I believe that there are people in life that can drain energy from you (sometimes they don't even realise), not in a spiritual way, but they can just 'wear you down', but when you're free of them you are your 'old self'. Remember this is a different deck, and all decks are card and ink. The power is in you - so forget this person and be happy.

For your peace of mind, do a sage burning or another cleansing ritual to shed those negative thoughts.
And yes, use another deck so they don't keep arising at the sign of the images.

I can understand how you feel, by not wanting to use a deck that you associate with that person. But I do not think that she can cause you harm that way, and after all it is a new deck and she hasn't touched it.
Several people here have told me that wearing Black Tourmaline and Snowflake Obsidian help to dispell negative energies and for protection. Perhaps that is something that could help you?
I've just read thread and I agree with all that has been said.
I hope your feeling better about your cards.
If it helps when I started tarot many 20 years ago. I dumped my one and only deck at the time down the bin because I was told that they have demons and I would become some sort of she devil.......I was s**t scared and nothing could change the way I felt.
I bought the cosmic deck for the 2nd time and I'm not going to let this baby go down the bin.

I had some problems with some negative people a few years ago. It go so bad I gave things away they gave me & threw the rest away, only keeping a few things. When my story ends what I learned through it all was...
what we learn from Tarot I believe is a Truth. People are afraid of the truth & themselves so they want you to stay with them & not learn any other way. When you start leaving their confort zone they will do anything to keep you as a friend, even if they have to scare you with power.
I would take your cards & put them away or trade them for another & Move On with your life. If you study your Tarot & believe in yourself in positive ways no one can harm you.
You are moving into a new path.
Do not lie to the tarot ,the tarot will not lie to you& trust the truth, your answers will come of this issue.
Sorry to ramble, but I have had to build up my confidence with the Tarot & my own truths.

Everything said is good. I do believe that she can't influence the new cards, because, as it was said, she has never touched them. I would suggest that it is you, and your relationship, that needs cleansed. Do a very thourough smudging, aspurging, and cleansing of yourself. Then do a ritual to sever all ties to this person. give away or burn everything she has given you. Take a cord and cut it, visualizing any link with her broken. Then perhaps you will feel more at ease.
Whether or not you read with the Rohring or not is beside the point, you obviously have some feeling of negativity that needs to be dispelled.

If you feel that something is stopping you from reading with your deck, why not try cleansing it as well as your relationship? I don't think she could affect it, but you need reassurance, and a cleansing spell might do the trick.

that is very beautifull...
take that energy and love that gesture in the present moment...
that moment is yours...
to detach from any negativity that is hidden in your heart....
attachment is adifficult thing!
try to detach!...
that is my thought!

I think Bram hit the nail on the head (as well as the rest of you).
You can manifest whatever you want, and you can also (and always do) choose where to place your focus.
This is key. Do a cleaning for yourself, then let it go and place your attention on the *gift* and the love that brought it!
Thank you all for your advice. I think the bottom line for me is to just let go of the past. Maybe it's own resentment toward this person that creates the negative energies. However I do like DeLani suggestion for severing of ties ritual. Thanks again for all of your responses. I greatly appreciate them.

I was given a Rider-Waite deck when I was first thinking of learning tarot. I never was comfortable with it. I got a Osho Zen deck and it worked well. Later I got a Universal Waite deck and it seems to be working fine. I still can't feel comfortable with the original though, even though I performed several cleansings on it. I guess it's time for it to go.
I'm learning that, when I don't feel comfortable with an item or a situation, it's time to change it or get rid of it.

I would like to add to this that it might be a good idea to think twice before giving someone tarot cards that you read with.
I have done so and have had strange feelings too!

You could always burn a candle too, as you do readings, to allow the candle to burn off anything negative. But since this deck never even knew her, it'll be ok to use since it never picked anything up from her to start with.
