View Full Version : Missing person spread?
has anyone ever used the tarot to locate a missing person?
I once used it to locate a missing hamster... But it didn't help very much. I mean, the hamster hadn't gone very far at all, so the Tarot was a bit too worldly for that one. (He was in the kitchen, down the side of some pipes. I'd love to see the Tarot tell me that!) :D
Kiama
haha. thanks Kiama. :)
I'm serious though. there is someone I am very worried about -- and no one has been able to get a hold of her....
she is someone I work with and we haven't heard or seen her for about a week now... we haven't called the police, cause no one wants to cross that line, cause, hey, she might just have decided to blow off work.... we have no emergency numbers and get the answering machine when we call her.
I laid out a modified Celtic Cross for her last night... just the cross, without the staff... I couldn't make sense of it... i don't remember it to post here, but I do know that the situation was the queen of pentacles, crossed by the queen of cups...
so... I was wondering if anybody had ever used the tarot for this type of thing? what spread they would use? was it successful? etc. thanks!

Use the World Card as your guide. Put a card at the center to stand for your missing person (a court card you feel is them in a nutshell). Then lay out the cards as follows:
4*********1
*****0****
3*********2
#1 is Scorpio--where are they at emotionally, psychologically? Angry? Sad? Numb?
#2 is Leo--who is with them? Among friends? Enemies? Strangers? Family?
#3 is Taurus--what is their physical location? Where on the planet are they standing? Or are they on the move?
#4 is Aquarius--where are the planning to go? Do?
And then add a 5th card to cross the one at the center. Let that one be "Advise?" (i.e, should you keep searching? Call? Worry? Relax?)
Good luck and let us know how it turns out!
Joya: Is this person's absence out of character or does it strikes you as unusual? Has anyone thought to check her address?
A week is a long time for someone to remain out of touch unless she decided to change jobs or leave town & didn't bother to inform anyone at work. If she is really "missing", a family member or a friend would have begun inquiries--unless there is no one outside of work to miss her. It doesn't hurt to be concerned about someone's well-being as any number of things could have happened.
The modified Celtic Cross could work.
Offhand, the only spread I can think of is The Lost & Found Spread (from "Power Tarot" by Trish MacGregor & Phyllis Vega). It is apparently intended to locate lost objects, but it could be used for a missing person.
It is laid out as follows:
------------------------10------
1----3--------6---------9------
--------------------------8------
---2----4----5----7------------
1. The object (in this case, the person) that is lost
2. Something you need to know about this loss
3-4. Where to begin your search
5. Who or what will help
6-7. Factors to be considered in your search
8-10. Outcome
This is as busy a spread as the full Celtic Cross, but it is worth a try. Too bad you don't recall the cards of the throw you did.
I hope your co-worker is ok.
hi. thanks everyone for responding with some great suggestions. Thirteen your spread seemed to make the most sense, so I tried it. ... and here is what I got...
I used the world card to represent this girl - not only because of the nature of the spread, but it seems to fit her very well -- she is natural and beautiful, both inside and out.
Card #1/Scorpio: The Empress.
Card #2/Leo: 3 of Swords
Card #3/Taurus: 6 of Cups (this card also appeared in the future position in the CC I had laid out previously)
Card#4/Aquarius: 9 of Wands
Advice: King of Wands
okay. my initial impression is that something is going on with her mother... and she is with her, at home. I know that in the past she has often been the "responsible" one, taking care of her mother, instead of the other way around. The 6 of cups reminds me of childhood... so maybe she is staying with her mother. the 3 of swords could mean trouble with her boyfriend... they were living together... maybe the situation turned dangerous and she escaped to her mother's house. OR... another way of looking at the cards is that she is pregnant and dealing with that.....
I'm not too skilled at reading the cards... and this is a tough situation to read about... so any input and thoughts on the spread would be appreciated. At least I get the feeling that she is alive... and seems to be dealing with an emotional situation... rather than some other more scary situations that crossed my mind.
thanks for the help everyone. I'll keep y'all updated when I find out what happened. This really isn't like her to do this.... Her only relative that we know about is her mother... and we can't contact her.
oh yah, and the King of Wands??? any thoughts on what that means? does that mean I should take action?

I'm glad the spread helped. Not knowing the person or her situation, here's what I see from your spread:

#1: Empress: Remember, this card is about her thoughts and feelings and they are that she probably wants to be mothered and taken care of--or wants to think of someone else, care for them and not think about herself. You may be right that she's with her mother. She also wants time. Lots of time for things to develop slowly.
#2: 3 of Swords: This is who's she's with--and I think you're right that she had some problem with her boyfriend. To her mind, she's surrounded by enemies and betrayal--or just harsh words. She might well be alone, but if so, because she's been hurt and can't stand to be around anyone.
#3: 6 of cups: Where is she? Someplace very familiar, nostogic. A realitive or very old friend. A hiding place she knows very, very well.
34: 9 of Wands: What she intends to do--stand guard, hold out, protect what she has left. She's close to feeling like giving up, at least emotionally. She's tired.
Advice: King of Wands--In a way you're right. The King of wands aggressive, but in control. You might want to do a clarification on this card.
I would take a missing person case directly to the police. Time is very important in finding a person. Most companies have a personnel department that has record of a person to contact in case of emergency. The personnel department should have looked up this information and made the call when she didn’t show up the first day, not a week later. I had a co-worker that was always on time for work or called in if she was going to be late or absent. One day she just didn’t show up. She was an older lady and we called her emergency contact person when she was a half an hour late. The contact person went to her home and she had died in her sleep. There was also the case in my home town where a man fell down the basement stairs and broke his leg. He tried to get up the stairs but fell back down again and broke an arm. He was in so much pain, he couldn’t get up the stairs to get to a phone. It was two days before someone decided to call the police. This man went through a lot of pain because someone couldn’t decide if they should call the police or not. Don’t sit around doing tarot card throws! Please, get the authorities involved NOW!!!
:( RaeAnne,
I am sorry, but I take offense to your post....
I am doing the only thing I feel I CAN do, at this point, considering the situation, which is different from the ones you mentioned....
I do not need to be yelled at.
I wrote more, but have deleted it....
I did not mean to offend. I was thinking of the well being of the person who is missing. I truly do feel that time is of the essence in all missing person cases.
RaeAnne,
I apologise too.... you are absolutely right - and I appreciate your caring...
I'm just anxious about this whole thing -- and nobody I work with seems to think it's that big of a deal, or that it's not their place to do anything. After I read your post, I called the police and filed a report. they are sending a cruiser over to her house to check things out. ......
Joya250,
Please keep us posted on what happens. I know you are concerned. I will pray/send energy/hope for a happy conclusion.
hi guys. just wanted to give you an update on the whole situation... one of my co-workers got an email from her on monday, saying that she was okay, but she was going through a lot of sh*t... and that she was staying with her mother.... so, thirteen, your intrepretation of that part of the reading was right on...
thanks again everyone for your help. I am so relieved she is alive... though it doesn't look like she'll be coming back... and the whole situation is rather odd.

joya250,
Thanks for the update. I ahd been wondering what had happened. I'm glad she's OK physically and I will continue to send hope for her to get her problems solved.

I found this older thread looking for a missing persons spread...Joya I am very glad to hear that you were able to locate your co-worker and she was alright.
I also just wanted to say that over the weekend I used Thirteen's World Spread regarding my beloved cat who had been missing for two days (very unusual for him). I used the Waking the Wild Spirit deck, and the spread told me exactly what the little stinker was up to and where he was at. Also told me he was okay and not to worry or be overly "motherly".
This information was a great relief! And just a few hours later, my errant cat finally came home! Thank you Thirteen for this great spread. It is definitely a keeper!

Boy, am I glad I thought to check the dates on these posts *before* hitting Reply. I was about to chime in with, "definitely call the police -- time is of the essence" and "I'm sure your co-worker will understand if the cops appear on her doorstep because she's dropped out of contact for a week, and people have become worried". Heck, I should think she'd rather HAVE people care enough to call the cops than feel like, "Gee, I can fall off the face of the earth and nobody will do anything to find out why".
But, fortunately, I realized this isn't a brand-new thread, I just kept reading it. I'm glad she turned out to be OK.
But for the record... I hope people here don't have to experience the situation that generated this thread, but if they do, my advice is absolutely "If someone's missing, call the police, THEN break out the Tarot deck". God willing, the cops will check into the situation and find out that all is well... and that will be a better feeling than, God forbid, finding out later that someone could have been helped if only the authorities had been notified sooner.

But I have a question. I've a similar problem, where a really good friend of mine can't find her real mother. The whole spread in itself is clear, except for one question: What do you mean by Using the world card as a guide? Could you lay it down in layman's terms please?
