I posted this thread in talking tarot, and wouldn't mind some
oracle lover feedback!

I tried so hard to work with the tarot, but for some reason I couldn't connect. It just wasn't a natural flow for me.

Then I started reading the Faeries Oracle forum and knew I had to try them. For me it's the best thing I've done. As someone else had said, I know so much more about myself. I was also able to "read" them right away!

Hi SongDiva!

I like and use both consistently. Granted, I have far more tarot decks in my possession than oracle decks but I think both are equally important.

I will choose a deck to read with based on what my intuition tells me about the situation in question. Sometimes, I will grab a trusty tarot deck like one of my own creations or the Quest. Other times, I'll reach for either my C.C. Deck or Fairy Ring. But, just like with tarot, if the deck doesn't appeal to me, the book is rambling, or not well written, I'll pass it by in favor of something that is. I have A LOT of tarot decks that fall into this category. They all ended up sitting on a shelf in my collection in the "Wish I hadn't bought/received it" section, otherwise known to close friends as the shelf with the more simple, but harsh moniker labeled "Deck Disasters."

My experience has shown me that using both tarot and oracle can be very informative and enlightening. :-)

Joy to you,
Maralee

I like ot read with both my oracle decks and my tarot decks. One of the oracle decks I love the most is Self Care Cards. I often use these to pull a last card for my tarot readings as I find these cards quite positive and give peole a goal to work towards.

I do find that I use my tarot deck smore often than oracle decks but use both of them at times and often together.

I agree, dolphingirl....I love them both equally!!! It really depends upon what I am in the mood for that day...I think both tarot and non-tarot cards have something to offer, and the non-tarot cards are fun and interesting because they don't have the structure of tarot...for me that means another perspective for interpreting the cards, which keeps things exciting! :D

I also love the Self-Care cards...beautiful and inspiring!

Although I now read mainly with tarot cards, I occasionaly like to take out my Mediciine Cards and/or Sacred Path Cards to read with and get a different perspective on things.

I find that doing so gets me some amazingly insightful results, even more than if I read with them ( the non-tarot decks) on a regular basis, and I take special note of the cards that come up in the reading ( I usually draw just one card from each ).

I admit though that I hadn't been doing many readings using the Tao Oracle and Healing with the Fairies Oracle although I think they also offer great insights, when I get to them.

I like and use both Tarot and Oracle decks.

The oracle decks I've used mostly for myself so far.

My favorite Oracle decks are the Sacred Geometry Oracle deck by Francene Hart and Wisdom Of The Four Winds by Barry Brailsford. The concepts and structures are prettty amazing, and readings done with these 2 Oracles can be most enlightening.

I've just gotten the Tao oracle in a trade, and hope to work more with it soon.

To read for others most often I use Tarot Decks, though would like to try the oracle decks out more.

You don't have to choose between Tarot or Oracles. Many times they complement each other when you use both in a reading session. It really depends on your intuition when deciding which deck to use would be best suited to answer the question being posed.

I totally agree if you just don't like the deck or the book is poorly written, you should not get it.

I started with tarot, loved the pictures and feel but must admit I it was hard learning the sistem of it until I had a friend who said, "stop trying to do it their way and do what you feel." So thats how I learned, my way and a little later with the help of the book "A Magical Course on Tarot." Those I read for said they perffered my way when I changed to my style/way. Eventually I took a class and I continue to learn bits and peices as I'm sure others are.

Then I found oracles, (I have quite a few now), and found that they flow so well with energy readings. I do not have to think so much with say my Druid Animal Oracle and its so much quicker than tarot, though I still take my time looking over the spreds and seeing what cards came up- I feel energy/ information even before I flip and sometimes even put then down. This has happened with tarot, but I feel that some of the fear of tarot or getting certan cards like the tower or death puts people on gard with their energy or something. I get the imprssion people feel more open with oracles and many are polled to the animals or fairies, etc.

I read with tarot for others, but more and more with oracles.

I find myself using my Oracle Decks more than my Tarot Decks. I just think they are easier to use. I seem to connect better with oracle decks lately.

I still use my Tarot decks but I seem to run in cycles, right now I'm in an
oracle deck cycle.

I read with both. I tend to use my tarot decks more than my oracle decks. I have a friend who uses both the Goddess Torot and the Goddess Oracle decks in readings. Doing one with the tarot and a qualifing card from the Oracle. I like the idea but haven't put it into practice yet.

I run in cyles also. Or, is that "run in circles ...?" I forget.

I know several people here who don't connect with oracle decks at all. But personally, I like the few that I have. I think Osho Zen falls into that, maybe, at least not tarot as such, and the Power Deck - very good for getting lost in on a daily draw. Just ordered Rumi cards so am totally looking forward to getting them! And I will have the Faces of WomanSpirit coming along here shortly, thanks to a fellow ATer!! :)

Not at all into Goddess decks, as I just don't connect (yet) with all the names and traditions and such. They don't sing to me.

I like the Infinite Tarot, which is not a real tarot. They nudge rather than shout.
And I've begun working again with the I-Ching. I'm finding that it's much more envolved than I thought when I first encountered it a few years back. And I thought it was pretty neat back then!!

So, bottom line, I use both! Depending on where I'm drawn to at the time.

I love reading with both Tarot and oracle decks, especially together. I like the intuitive messages I recieve through looking at Tarot cards and I like a written oracle to give me a broader definition and an angle I might not be seeing in the Tarot.
I find they work in unison, and are very enlightening. I have a deck of tarot cards and oracle cards in the same box. Some of them seem to go together graciously, they compliment each other like two old best friends.

I am an avid tarot lover but often use oracles for a different perspective in a reading, usually at the end. I am always amazed at how closely they agree or support tarot - or vice-versa. Using both in tandem adds variety and interest, and I find most females love Angel cards to be included at the end of a reading. And yay! Hallo Starsongs, I have found somebody else with a Sacred Geometry deck. I love this deck, although have never done a reading with it entirely on its own (have drawn single cards etc to clarify issues). I am not sure how people would react to something which isn't as mainstream as Angels or Fairies. I do also have Brian Froud's Fairies oracle but haven't the time to invest atm in really getting to know it. On my wishlist is the Celtic Tree Oracle which I would love to use in tandem with my Druidcraft tarot. In addition to all of these I do also use Runes to clarify at the end of a reading. Trouble is, where does it all end? Everytime I pass by the 'decks' page something else catches my eye :)

I've only just started to explore oracle decks - I've had the 'Healing with the Angels' for a while and do like to use them but just recently I've also bought 'Titanias Fortune cards' and the Madame Endora cards - Titanias Fortune cards are exactly as I imagined them, very modern and the Endora cards very pretty - I've connected with them both but I'm finding them very hard to read for myself.

I've read with them for others but when I use them to read myself, I get too close and I'm bending the reading to suit me. I've never done this with my tarot readings.

Whether they'll get easier to use for myself as I get more experienced, well I'll just have to wait and see. :)

Edited:-

Actually reading the thread here has given me an idea, also what others have posted, of using maybe the Endora cards with my tarot readings and see if that works.

Lol...I keep hearing a lot about Froud's Fairies Oracle......I have the OZ and those are use to read for others as far as personal issues or relationships....but I keep using Tarot for myself......I think that the thing with Oracles is that it forces one to look at oneself and I'm just not ready for that...but I love that because it really draws one inner self out more in my opinion then the Tarot can do sometimes

Wow...as many times as I have seen this thread...I can't believe that I didn't already post in it!

I have more oracles than tarot...so many that I had to put some away to make room...and I still discover them hidden in my apartment!

I love my tarot...don't get me wrong!
Tarot is a great system that comes almost second nature to me now.

Which means if I want to do any sort of reading for myself...it would have to be with an oracle!

I love how oracles each have their own unique system...and how some can be incredibly intuitive and evolving...like the Soul Cards...and some can be unillustrated and still very powerful in the Word...like the Celestial Wisdom deck!

I love that oracles can be anything they want to be...and don't have to folow the same rules as established tarot.

The symbolism can be anything, based on anything...and that is very freeing as well!

Although I admit the oracles that work best for me are ones that have some negative cards along with positive ones for balance.
Some decks are so sweet and light and happy that they only work to cheer me up...not for any real messages, or answers!

But everyone needs friends like that ...as well as the ones that will tell you the truth!

I just love all my oracles...even some of the lame ones!

well, my journey with oracle/tarot is a tough one as well as funny. i won 'tarot' and 'oracle' decks. i personally call them all ORACLE as that is what they are to me; an oracle to touch the deepest part of our universe. i have been attracted to 'oracles' more this past two years due mainly to life events, and my own deck creation (you can see some pics of one of my decks in deck creation section http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=43647 ).

however, i am finding myself "collecting" decks of 'tarot' more now. i am very picky and do not just get one 'just because'. i connect with a particular deck and then if things go the way the are meant to be, i create the reality of whether they get to me or not.

Also, it's been about two years since i have done any readings for anyone. my life was at a very tough point and decided to stop. now, things are allining themselves for me to do readings again. I usually let the person pick a deck that speaks to her/him.
