Ghosts

Sometimes I PM someone (wow, shock!). They seem to be online, and I wait and wait for an answer, and the PMT shows them as still being online (as does the bit at the bottom). After a while, often an hour, I discover that they went offline before I sent the message.

What causes these 'ghosts'? Is this caused by people leaving Aeclectic, but not signing out; with the system then backdating to when they were last active?

When people don't log off, they are shown as online for an hour after their last activity on the forum. The Who's Online page also shows the time someone was last active, so that's usually the best way to check whether they are still active or have left the computer by now.
