I just got an email from Solandia asking me not to post porn sites in my profile.

Slight problem.

I didn't post it. I swear, promise, whatever you want me to say, I did not put that link in my profile. I noticed it in the box a day or so after I registered, so I deleted it and hit refresh. It came up again. About the fifth time I deleted it, it finally went away. I thought that was the end of it, until Solandia emailed me.

I have no idea what the hell is going on, but I did not post that link in my profile. I just went to see if it was still up, and I can't access the Edit Profile page. It says I'm not authorized to access it. Um, what? It's my profile. Maybe a mod is banning me from it, I don't know.

Help? Please?

Hi deranged_walrus,

Another inappropriate link appeared in your profile yesterday after emailing you to remove the first one, so I locked your profile to prevent further additions.

If you did not post these links yourself.. does anyone else have access to your computer? I'd also recommend changing your password to something more complex in case it's easily guessed.

I just changed it right after I posted. No one uses my laptop except me, so I really am clueless as to what is happening. I just talked to a friend about it, and he said some sites like those have viruses that do things like that. But I don't go to sites like that. Oi. What is going on...

In that case, the most likely cause is spyware on your computer which is automatically changing the homepage field in your profile. A program like AdAware (http://www.lavasoftusa.com/software/adaware/) will scan your computer and remove the spyware.

When you download adaware, please don't forget to check for new reference files once in a while and installing them. There is a little button above the scan button. ("Check for updates now" or something)

Spyware can come from many different sites. Including sites that show lyrics or something else simple. I know that some people think you only get spyware if you look for "naughty" stuff, but that's totally untrue.

dah, thanks, you two. This isn't the first time this has happened, so it's good to finally figure out the solution. Drove me nuts, really. Hopefully it'll stop.

:D thanks again
