Last night the episode of Charmed showed Chris playing with Tarot cards. He pushed all the cards out (like a big fan) and then picked up a card. It was "Judgement". I thought it was about time the show incorportated some Tarot into it :)

Has anyone seen this episode? If yes, would you remember what deck it was?

I didn't see this episode.. :(

But I have seen one or two others that they used tarot cards. Page used them in the first season she was brought onto the show (I think it was the first season). She was using what looked like a worn set of RWS cards. Though I could be wrong. :)

I didn't see that episode either, as the season with that Chris-guy isn't out yet in Belgium. I don't even know who Chris is, actually... Last episode I saw I think involved Leo getting blown up...

I remember Page drew cards back when Phoebe was dating Cole - I remember the Lovers came up and I think Death too (it was only Major Arcana). The deck definitely wasn't RWS then, but one I had never seen before.

There's at least one other episode of this series where a tarot deck appeared, according to Tarot Totes database on "tarot in film and television". See: http://www.tarottotes.com/item.asp?IID=43

Hehe, and while you're there, you can browse those gorgeous bags they offer too. For example, go to the "One of a Kind" section and guess who has the Radiant Sunburst right next to the computer screen at this very minute :D ...

I remember that... I don't think it was only Major Arcana, because I believe the three cards she got were The Lovers, 3 of Swords, and Death. It was an odd deck... I didn't recognize it either.

I saw this episode at another time & was unable to recognize the deck. The cards appeared to be larger than the standard deck size & may have been created just for the occasion.

Some time ago, I also saw the use of Tarot cards on another series, "PSI", which looked like the RWS but not quite. On this occasion, their size also seemed larger in proportion to the other objects they were placed with.

I saw the same episode myself and loved the deck (It was the one with the spider demon, and the episode started with Chris in the club, using the cards).

I did a big search and it looks like the deck is another pretend one from the folks at Charmed.

The backs come from the Golden Rider deck, you can see them here:
http://www.learntarot.com/gwdesc.htm

The judgement picture shown definately isn't from the Golden Rider deck, and given the unusual symbolism (a young man, some scales, and what looks like two people hanging like fish at a market), it's probably a made for TV image.

Very dissapointing!

Season 7 has just started on Living TV in the UK. This has to be my favourite programme! I think there's only one programme from the last series I haven't seen.

I don't watch it very often, but i don't watch alot of tv.
The only time I'd seen one of the girls use the tarot, it was the 'Witches Tarot'.

I FOUND IT!! Woohoo!!

The backs (http://www.rusjoker.ru/WWPCM/decks05/d02452/d02452r01.jpg) were from the Golden Rider (http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/golden-rider/), but the card he drew was Judgement from the Shakespeare Oracle (http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/shakespeare-oracle/).

The only thing taking longer than the release of the Charmed series to DVD, is the finishing of the current season on its stupid network here  I really want another season for Christmas!

I really suck at numbers, but if Season 7 was the one with Chris, then we are half way through Season 8 here. Of course it started 6 months ago, and the stupid network keeps telling us "Charmed will return soon" and we get more delays.

Will it be too big a plot spoiler (WARNING, WARNING, WARNING) if I say that I miss possibly evil Chris, but it is more than made up for by Leo being bonkers and probably evil? })

If so, please pretend I didn't say that...

No tarot this season though. Grumble, grumble, grumble...

Ahhhhhhh, that could be series 7 then ........ damnit ..... won't spoil it for you ..... if you haven't seen the last episode ..... I don't believe Leo has ever been evil :D ..... he just looks out for his family ;)

They already has them, in another episode, actually :p

When Pheobie and a redeemed demon traveled in time to save some ghosts stuck in a time-loop, she used a fortune teller's cards to make a gateway, to escape the burning building.

Wow, all you folks on the other side of the world are waaaay behind on your Charmed episodes....so I won't give anything away! I love the show and have been watching it since it came on the air and I have the first 3 seasons on DVD. But back to the subject....it's funny I just saw this thread because I just got done watching the fresh episode of Charmed about an hour ago and I was thinking about the episode where Phoebe gave Paige a new deck for her brides maid present (or something like that). I remember she did a 3 card spread on Phoebe and Cole and all I remember was her getting The Lovers and Death and she repeated the reading and kept pulling the same cards. Although I do not recall an episode with Chris using tarot cards.... I stopped watching the show for a little while there because in my opinion it started to suck... but it's okay now. The older seasons are better I think. Okay, enough of my rambling! :)

I wonder if it might be the "Charmed Deck".
There is a "Charmed Tarot" on Ebay now, it's at $56 with 2 days to go.

This one was Part visconti Sforza and part pretend deck. Some details are here (http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=39119).

It was in the episde with the spier woman, and when Chris beat the crap out of Leo. I remember this episode especially cause of the deck, and a frequent wish to treat my own father the same way :D

I think the older ones are better in some ways, but the originals have their own merits. Shannon Dohery for example is a far better actor than other cast memeber we could name (if space permittted such a long list :D )

I wonder if it might be the "Charmed Deck".

The Charmed Deck is made with photos of the characters, and I hear pretty crappily done. Of course if I was able to get a copy cheap, I would :D

Just a little bit of OT on the Charmed series, the season 8 is already going in the US, here is the listing of the episodes...
http://www.tv.com/charmed/show/106/episode_listings.html&season=8
Through the Greek NOVA satellite tv we're still watching season 7, I can't wait until we get season 8 as well over here...

I ahve to admit that I miss the more Wiccan influences in the show -- it just rang true, being that the premise of the show rests on the power of three and the passing of a "witch's" power from generation to generation.

Although immensely entertaining and very heart-warming when it comes to sisterly interactions, I saw a distinct point at which the direction of the show veered more toward the Christian religions/angels etc. which would have been interesting if they had kept the two running side by side, but sadly it seems the angel aspect has been enhanced at the expense of the Wiccan roots.

Very fun in any case but thought I'd throw my two cents in...

CelticGirl

Crystelle, I agree. And when Paige first came on to the show she brought more of the wiccan trivia with her.... talking about the sabbats, astrology, tarot, etc. Not that all that is necissarily wiccan, but you know what I mean. They just really don't talk too much about that kind of stuff anymore.

Not wanting to sound like a grumpy old man here, but...

Even though I like the series (what testosterone human wouldn't?) and apreciate te humour, it sometimes bugs me... as a neo - Pagan many of the prejudices I have to deal with come from Charmed, Buffy and "the Craft".

Not to mention hordes of teenage girls questing for freezing or orbing powers on Wicca and other neo - Pagan fora, leaving less and less of alternative religious cyberspace for metaphysical and (poly-)theological discussions.

....okay... finished ranting....

Crystelle

Ranting is allowed -- it IS afterall a forum!

LOL Yes well, I experience the same issues with people and Tarot. I actually had someone decide they weren't interested in dating me because I was into Tarot and astrology. Apparently I am too "out there" for them... not sure what they think is out there since they didn't seem to know anything on either topic...

I guess we all have to deal with a bit of ignorance here and there -- of course if it were easy then we would ever learn anythign from practicing?

Love

I used to love Charmed when it was about 3 witch sisters, casting spells and all the other "stuff" they did...now it just seems all family oriented and "fluffy", well more so..lol...anyhoo...I find it hard to belive that anyone would really think being a witch would give them powers like the sisters have (wouldn't that be great?)...but ya never know.

WolfSpirit
30-11-2005, 04:09
Rhiamon, me too. I liked it when it were 3 sisters and lost interest after that, maybe I just got bored with it.
I always thought it was amusing how they cast spells, it sounded as reading a boring nursery rhyme and then demons exploded etc, lol :D
I don't think you have to be very teenage and very silly to take that seriously ?!

CelticGirl

I agree with you guys... they show has gone downhill with the past 2 or 3 seasons. And I am honestly surprised they were able to dig it out of the nice big hole the writers created for the season finale last year (which they had planned on it being the series finale). I won't go into any detail since these seasons aren't playing for a lot of folks who are reading this thread... I'm beginning to believe that they should have ended it when it was still good.

You'd be suprised, I have heard about Winx club orientated covens, which is sad enough as it is, losing members because they were getting frustrated waiting for "getting their wings"... LITERALY.
