I was just spending a good while this afternoon oogling some delicious moldavite pictures, coveting them to the utmost.... I even saved a choice picture for myself, to relish at will.

What lascivious thoughts to have for rocks....

I am sometimes of the view that size does indeed matter. However, due to lack of adequate funds, I find that my only access to stones of the 8" or larger variety is through the medium of stoneporn.

However, I am not dissing those smaller stones. No, no, no, no. But I do dream of a day when I will be able to afford the large stones of the stoneporn variety, in order to enhance and add to a calming and peaceful living environment.

I was looking for a thread to add to, about my new stone....... and this seemed like the most appropriate thread to bump.... :D

I just bought a lovely piece of carnelian, and it's in a nice shape too :D I call it a theraputic shape ;) reminiscent of a palm stone :)

I have two Carnelian stones now. One with a hole in the middle which can be worn as a necklace. They are different shades though.

One is a pale toffee orange and the other is very bright. So, how do you tell a good quality carnelian, is it the depth of colour?

I don't keep mine in a folder on my computer. I'm into the hard stuff. My cabinet is full, so I have little piles and dishes around the house full of them.

And a bag that I insist I weigh my pocket down with whenever I go out.
It's genetic. My grand-daughter, who's only three, is also addicted to stones. I had to buy her a box to keep them in, to appease her parents, who said I wasn't allowed to give her any more because they were all over the floor.
Now she keeps them all in her box. One of her additions, which her mother managed to talk her out of, was a lump of concrete ;)

She may love stones, but she hasn't developed a keen eye for them yet :)

If it sparkles, I want it!
Actually, I want it if it doesn't too. Most of my stones don't :)
But my labradorite does! I love that too, Chronata!

We have a shop at the mall that has a huge bathtub full of polished stones and marbles.. ( we like to run our fingers through them...hehe)

And my girl is forever picking up pretty rocks and putting them in her pockets.

Rock shopping is one of our favorite past times. (altho some times it gets me into trouble with you know who)

I have to stand up here too. So, you're innocently surfing late night TV. And you're just flipping through the channels like a guy (sorry you non-flipping guys, don't mean to sterotype you all) and....whoa, baby, what is this?

Stones on TV. Yep, that's right, sort of a QVC for rocks. Even though I'm not a TV shopper, I was transfixed.
"And here's 6 nice pieces of Jasper - look at the quality...."

Yikes.

Well, I just bought myself a new baby while on holiday last weekend, and I am chuffed as nuts over it. It's a Smokey Quartz Phantom with at lest three phantoms inside.

I can't find a picture of a Smokey Quartz one but here is a link to some that look very similar to mine. I am thrilled it is so beautiful.

My first clear quartz sphere has a phantom point in it. The point isn't perfectly centered in the sphere, even if it looks as though it is in this picture. (Sorry for the yellowish tinge -- I took this with my camera phone, which doesn't handle low-light situations well.) It appears centered from this viewing angle because that was the way I could get the phantom to show most clearly in the picture.

I remember very well the day I got it, in 1991. Friends of mine and I were going to New Hope, PA, which has several metaphysical shops. I had it in my mind that I was going to buy a quartz sphere that day. I'd always wanted one and that just seemed like The Day to get one. So I was all enthused, wondering which one would Have My Name On It. I figured that when I saw the right one, it'd "speak" to me.

Well, this one spoke to me, all right. The second I saw what looked for all the world like a three-sided pyramid in it, I thought, "THAT'S the one!" and told the clerk I wanted to buy it.

The college-age guy behind the counter was a little ticked at me for buying it -- apparently he'd liked it a lot and wasn't happy to see it go. He informed one of the other sales clerks, "She's buying the one with the pyramid!" and he sounded like he was none too pleased with me for it, LOL. I told him, "If it's any consolation, it's going to a good home", but I'm not too sure he was appeased, lol.

But I didn't feel tooooo guilty, because after all, it Spoke To Me, and Had My Name On It, and all that good stuff. (Besides, the kid behind the counter WORKED in the store, and I'm sure he could have purchased it if he'd wanted to. If it'd had HIS name on it, he'd have had the same reaction I did and leaving the store without it would've been unimaginable.)

Anyway, here is my hasty picture of it:
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v403/shelikes2read/FirstSphere.jpg

Later, I will try to post a better shot of this one and one of my other pet spheres. I saw this one online a few years ago and it was another "this one Has My Name On It" moment. I'm surprised this pic is still on the mineralminers.com website. But since it is, I'll include a link to it since I'm not so sure I'll be able to get a clearer shot of it when I try to take my own.

http://www.mineralminers.com/images/rock-crystal/sphs/rkxs161.jpg

Now, though, the economy is different and so are my finances. So for the time being, seeing new quartz (or other mineral) "faces" will have to happen when I go window-shopping or viewing pictures online. That's OK, though. My collection's not extensive by any means, but it consists of the ones I've found With my Name On Them, and I like them a lot. :)

I'm still laughing out loud every time I see the word "stoneporn". :D Too funny! And "Crystalrotica" is pretty clever, too. LOL

If you want some superb stoneporn pics, go check out http://mineralminers.com and drool away. DARN but they have some really nice things on there. They're a reasonably priced site, too.

And if mineral spheres are your thing, then by all means check out http://spherestoyou.com/ where they specialize in spheres!

If only I could hit the lottery... and then visit a bookstore, an electronics shop, and spend whatever I like on sites like those two! LOL, I'd need another house to store it all in, but boy would it be fun!

I *love* clear quartz. Judging from how prominently it's featured on any site that sells minerals, I'm far from alone. I agree, it looks otherworldly... just the idea of a TRANSPARENT rock has always fascinated me, from the first time I saw a picture of quartz points when I was 7 or 8 years old. I think the picture was in a science book. All I know is that I was enthralled by the idea of a rock you could see through, and I wished like crazy that I could see the real thing. (Which is probably why I have a whole bunch of quartz points and tumbled stones now, lol... let's just say I may have gone a little overboard making sure that my wish to see quartz in person came true. ;) )

Incidentally, I've discovered that a person can get minerals at reasonable prices from science-based stores like the Nature Store, the Discovery Store, etc in the US. I'm not sure what stores of this sort there might be outside the US, but I *am* sure that they tend to charge less for their minerals than a lot of metaphysical shops I've seen.

That's not a hard-and-fast rule, as there are metaphysical shops whose costs are quite reasonable. On the other hand, if you're trying to keep your expenses in check, but want to to treat yourself by boosting your mineral collection, make a point of considering a variety of sources where you can get crystals, and see which ones suit your needs AND your budget best.

One day........

I have been looking at spheres for about a year and as yet I haven't found one that 'speaks to me' - but then I haven't seen any IRL that look as gorgeous as the ones on these site........ and yours of course. A sphere with a phantom has to be really special.

I have a small collection of mainly polished stones and I started initially with just the 7 chakra colours. But I am now venturing out to larger and more unusual ones. I also have a piece of blue calcite which is polished and about 4 inches high, the base of it is a polygon and as it rises up it narrows to a point. I have not seen this shape before and I cannot find one on the web, I will try to come back to this thread with a pic.

This has got to be the best porn thread ever!

Well, the selenite and the falcon eye were gifts I got for my birthday, so those two are my favorites. They are also the catalysts that got me to purchase more. Of the ones I bought, the citrine is my favorite, due to the role it plays in the Paul stories (which btw I am way past due on...) and the dream circle.

I also have a number of petoskey fossle stones, and a rather large turquoise ring.

Details on petoskey stones.

Wow! they are pretty amazing and it's great to have them on your doorstep like that!

Do you know if they have healing properties? Perhaps they would be similar to coral?

Citrine is beautiful and one of the first stones that I bought also. It is used in the 3rd chakra (solar plexus) and helps to control emotions and works with relationships and self-knowledge. It improves self-image bringing confidence into relationships and improves the quality of ones life!! :) Nice!
