I saw the tread on "I wanna be..." and my answer is:
Well, i like to think of my self as The Hierophant.

But now to My tread :D

Tarot for me is defenetly Four of Wands :)

What card are you and what card is TAROT for you?

Tarot to me is either the High Priestess or the Hierophant. One who possesses mystery, and/or offers me a way to cross a bridge I couldn't manage on my own.

For me it's "The Star". ^_^

It is hope, it is trust and it's offering a glimpse into the future. :)
The Star from the Toth deck has also been the first tarot which impressed me and was a present from a good friend who gave her cards away to everyone of her friends who liked to get a card from the remaining deck, because her deck was incomplete already when she recieved it from her aunt and couldn't use it for readings since her aunt removed "Death"and "Devil" from the deck because she thoght of them being too scary for a young girl. -_-

Definitely the High Priestess for me. She symbolizes the mysterious, the link to the universal, the "seeds" or opportunities that are contained within all of us in our fields of possibilities, and that feeling that there is more to life than just the physical world and the 5 senses. A place of great power, but not the type of power play generated by the ego. A continuum where you blend your idea of self with the whole.

I have moved this thread from the Tarot Games and Fun forum to here, since I believe it hits at an interesting issue that would be better off being dicussed here.

Off the top of my head, at the moment I feel the Tarot (or at least one aspect of it) is the Temperence card: a melting pot of ideas from all around the world, mixing and blending together to create the Philosopher's Stone.

Blessings,

Kiama

I originated the "I wanna be Tarot" thread, I thought of it as a game, but hey... I'm The Empress. I'd rather be The High Priestess, but I don't feel quite up to her yet! After I have a child (*finally!*), I will probably switch to HP.

To me, the essence of the Tarot is 0, The Fool - always travelling through every card... Next to that, The World: every single thing together.

The moon -
because it's all about paying attention to one's intuition, and a journey that begins with one knowing little. Also because it can seem mysterious, even though it really isn't.

For me Tarot is a combination of the Magician and the High priestess.

It reads my mind and knows what I am really thinking about at the time, but it also finds insights from within my innermost soul/self

The fellow who introduced me to tarot considered himself a Magician, so for me, that's THE card that means tarot.

The archetype (and the man!) also embodies the epitome of light and shadow or upright and reversed--the light of reason and the games of the trickster. That too is part of tarot, considering the alternate meanings and all sides.

Tarot to me if looking at my "yester-years" was the Star at my back:

http://www.tarotpassages.com/ukiyoe.htm

Tarot to me if looking for tomorrows might be the Star that guides my possibilities:

Same card, but different stories in this life dream.

Thanks for the question!

i cannot see Tarot as being just one card. to me, it is a wholeness, where every card has just the same importance as the others one because it is this card that will help/enlighten me on the day i draw it.

can't make myself more clear, i'm afraid. Tarot is 78 cards. if i were to choose one card tonight as the one representing Tarot, it wouldn't be the same than the one i'd choose tomorrow, or next week, next month etc. so i would be lying to myself, trying to contain my experience in just one card, restraining my intuition/ the little voice inside... whereas imo Tarot is about evolution, progress, improvement.

kissa

same about the card i might be: i will tend to choose a court card but from the brilliant "understanding the tarot court cards" i've learned that i am each court card...

edited to add: of course, there are cards i like more than others. because of the artwork, because i understand the symbols better, because they relate more clearly to my experience but this thread is not about "favourite cards" if i understand properly. i have lots of favourite cards :D (ok, my name is kissa and i'm a tarotholic...) but as i tried to explain, none can resume Tarot imo.

Hmmm, my initial thoughts are: The Chariot, but maybe this is me rather. That is, trying to keep on the right path, but having to fight to keep all my energies pulling in the same way.

If, then Tarot is The Fool. It is apt, being the first card, but also, the Fool wanders where maybe others would not go. The Fool goes forward, eyes open, and explores. The Fool is clearly not prosaic, and therefore sums up neatly Tarot, that is, the exploration and discovery of life.

I agree, but not for the same reasons. I see Tarot as a tool, the Magician has all the tools laid out on the table and he is working his will on the world. The High Priestess in most decks, stores the secrets of the tools and doesn't use them, although in my two most used decks (the Robin Wood and the WorldTree) she does actually do magic working too, based on what she knows, not on what she can learn.

As for me, I am probably the FOOL. Most decks (Not the WorldTree) the fool carries a bindlestiff (a bundle on a stick) which I always fancied as the cup, pentgram, and sword in the package while the staff is the wand. So I have all the tools, but I am too cocky/lazy/busy to use them right or well yet!

For me, THE card has always been the Fool -- I see hime as being on a journey of discovery, taking great pleasure from every aspect of his trip to wherever. I see the Fool as personifying the saying "The goal of the journey is not the end-point but the process of getting there." Dave.

I feel obligated to reflect WHY i choused

FOUR OF WANDS :D

I just took on card from my deck one day, and asked "what card are you, tarot, for me" and the four of wands came up.

When i saw it, that "now" became one of these perfect moments you can get in your life, if you see what i meen :)

If felt so right, tarot is realy the ground-astablisement in my life, it gives me joy and happy times, and it connects me to the childaspect of myself. It makes me feel free and my soul runs around like crazy, just like the kids in my tarot "the Sacred Rose deck" :D

As many of you mentioned, we can probably relate tarot to any card, at the right time. But dont forget, there is a time for everything, a time to laugh, a time to cry, a time to sleep and a time to be awake.... it will all happen at the right time.

Interesting thread. Had never really thought about the Tarot in these terms - one or a few cards defining Tarot. But, in general, I guess I'd have to go along with The Fool to... it's the Journey, the Seeking that is Tarot to me.

That is my opinion today... tomorrow may be a different story depending on where I am in my journey... ;)

Death is Tarot to me. The card of change, reflecting why a reading is done, to learn new information and reflect on it so that new paths might be taken.

Death is the card I see myself as too. Partially because I have read it is the card of Scorpios (which I am), but also because change is so tough for me. I hate to change, but once I do, I am always glad I did. :)

This is so exiting, i just love reading this tread!

There are so many ways to feel the tarot spirit, but this is a good way to share it :D

I feel that the most difficult card to interpreet right now is The moon, maybe thats where i am now...!???

The card that best depicts Tarot for me is the Wheel (of Fortune). Each card of the Tarot is like a cog or spoke in the Wheel of life that is moving on the path you are currently traveling on. Each card / spoke is necessary to support the deck / Wheel, and together they meet as one in the central hub, to give each deck / Wheel it's own character and purpose. As the Wheel turns and as the deck is read, each card has a chance to reveal its part in the whole.

And like there are many decks, there are many Wheels or paths to take, many of them linked like wheels in the great machine that is the universe. You may find yourself on the same Wheel / deck for many years, or choose to move from one Wheel / deck to another, exploring the variety of the creative engine!

I feel that we are all fools on the journey of life. We take that
first leap into the unknown. Whether the fool is placed at the
beginning, middle or end, we all are part of the journey.
The fool is every person who is born in this life.
Excellent Thread I am enjoying it.

Tarot for me is The Tower.
It came to me like The Tower: very sudden, blind-siding me, shaking up my world, and knocking me on my a**...hehe.
It remains so, because tarot continues to give me those Tower-powered jolts, just when I start to get complacent or pompous.
Life runs smoother as long as I remember that I am The Fool.
If I behave like a proper Fool, then The Tower's lightning is the awakening light of ephiphany, rather those shocking bolts of 'pay attention'.

It changes for me. Right now it's the World.

The first one was the Bagatella... he taught me everything. You have to watch him closely - he is always doing two things at once.

Then it was the Papessa... she was obscure and mysterious. I had to understand her.

Then it was the Wheel of Fortune - this was what all the trumps hinged on.

But now it is the World. This one is explaining the whole series for me.

We'll see... maybe it will change again (like Fortuna's wheel).

For me, the tarot would have to be the Moon and Star cards. The Moon because the tarot is so connected to the intuition, and the Star because the interpretation of the cards really comes from your higher self and the universe around you. The Star is the ultimate divine intervention card for me!!!

For me, it's the Possession card [Strength] in the New Orleans Voodoo Tarot:

http://alpha.mxat.ru/WWPCM/decks05/d02446/d0244608.jpg

The card shows a person being mounted/ridden by a lwa (spirit), but it's voluntary. When Spirit speaks to the reader through Tarot and the cards speak back...it's a peace and knowledge beyond description, even allowing for the dualities of life alluded to in the light/dark image of this card.

I know it's very cheesy, but the Fool card is Tarot to me, what with finding something new in the cards each time you do a reading, no matter how used to the cards you may feel. That or the Hermit, for feeling different from others and treading a somewhat mysterious path that nevertheless feels like it's been traveled before.

Or The Moon. A walk on the wild side, indeed. Plus, I love the moon. I can't get enough of it's brilliance and the way it envelopes the world in a beautiful blue embrace. And, like the moon, Tarot is always there, although it might be a little distant or dimmed at times.

^^;;
