Here is a link showing a pair of 4" Catch-Cut (serrated blade)
scissors. Although this site shows a very expensive Solingen
brand, I think it helps to give an idea of the right type of tool.

WellShaven Catch Cut Scissors by Dovo (http://209.35.185.42/ShopSite/Dovo_G4446_Catch_Cut_Scissors.html)

Cutting sturdy card stock, especially finished with a laminate,
can be difficult: it tends to push away from the scissors blades.

Perhaps you can find an economical pair with a similar feature.
The "serration" is really quite minimal, and simply holds the hair.

Warm regards,
Fulgour

My corner cutter punches down on the card after you fit the corner into a guiding V, never slips or misses.

In this thread on trimming borders (www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=31217&highlight=scissors+thoth) there's discussion of finding corner cutters by people in the UK, and Jema said she easily found a Fiskars cutter in Sweden. A craft or scrapbooking place seems to be the best place to look.

I've found that scissors and large office-type paper cutters (board with a long curved blade on one side that can be lowered to slice paper) tend to cut with a curve and do not produce a straight cut. On the other hand, there are tools used to prepare pictures for framing -- these are used to cut and bevel the boarder around the picture and within the actual frame.

These are expensive. But, there can be found in what we call department stores and office supply stores a lower cost item called a personal trimmer. This has a gridded plastic plate with a cutting scribe that is pulled along a metal rod or bar. It will slice photos and card stock and accomodates letter sized paper. In the US I have seen these range in price from $9 to $17. The rounded corners, if you need them, would have to be done with scissors or a corner punch as noted in prior posts. Dave.

I think I paid $10.00 for mine and I got them in the craft department of Walmart...don't suppose you have one of those in the UK.

I haven't been brave enough yet to actually putting them to use on a deck, but they are great for photographs.

Any scrapbooking or craftstore will have them.

ok, i live in fiskars homeland: finland (check up your maps,g uys, fiskars is the name of a finnish city where fiskars started to produce their blades, just as nokia is a finnish city that manufactured cartyres before cellphones, but eh... we're off topic).

i have been hunting a corner/edge cutter without success. the only thing i got is a puncher that makes round corners, yes, but punches thru paper as well to create nice and cute forms but, halas! completely irrelevant to any tarot deck... (imho) i don't feel the urgent need of having a damn cute little star on every edge of my haindl cards. am i too weird???

i don't want scissors, i think they would slide and cut unproperly thick laminated cardboard so the question is: is there in this world an online catalog where i could buy a corner/edge PUNCHER not scissors ???
thanks very very much for any info!

ditto kissa!!!
oh the frustration! all i need is something that would do the hard work for me! i must admit, i followed sulis' lead and used my kids' nailclippers. they were punchy, and the end result is fine, but i'm after a gizzmo that can guarantee perfection!
i want them now!

found 2 links in the uk, tinkerbell:

for this one, you need to scrowl down quite a bit before finding.

found on ebay.co.uk 2 "corner rounders" (or was it "corner cutters" ??) as well.

a very interesting evening, indeed ;)

off to bed now!

Check stores that sell stamps, etc.
I bought mine for about 3.5 euros, had a choice of three plain ones, and many fancy ones that one could use for pretty edges (not for stuff that needs to be shuffled though).
They're small and square and quite heavy. You set it down on the table, insert the corner into a little 90 degrees 'v' and punch. Works quickly and neatly.

They're called 'corner punch' in English, usually.

I'd say no. I'm still using a craft type cutter, similar to those Kissa linked to. I asked in the deck creation thread if anyone had found anything better. The punch I have now is a little better, but the first one had to be thrown out after only a few decks. They're just not designed to go through the heavy card-paper-laminate that makes up a tarot card. Commercial cards might not be quite as heavy, and for just trimming the odd deck the craft punches might be fine. But for doing deck after deck, the craft ones just don't cut it! :)

any chance there'd be one in amazon? tried searching for corner cutter and i ended up looking through a list filled with interesting, though perhaps irrelevant, power saws. perhaps it's called something else?

and, maybe the self-publishers can share what they used? :)

Amazon UK has them (well, ONE - a Fiskars) under corner punch. But all these things of theirs seem to have patterny corners.............

Kissa - your eclipsecard link seems to be dead - when did you last use it ?

Draagonstorm here has a sort of industrial strength one now, which will do several cards at once; I know this as she kindly passed her hand one on to me :D

PS: AHA. HERE (http://www.glittermonster.co.uk/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=48_74&zenid=b7b61a9f34c408728d7256bd43493540) are some "normal" ones ! Hope the link works.

thanks for the link gregory. now you made me interested on the industrial-strength one. would you know the manufacturer? and... what the thing's called? (i've tried searching for corner cutters, punchers... perhaps doing a search for "corner-shape modification implement" would turn up a result lol)

A little warning: be careful using the corner puch to neaten up decks late at night!

I did so once, and my downstairs neighbour got really worried: she thought I was lying in my apartment, wounded or something, and was desperately thumping out SOS-signals.... :D

I know nothing.......... I suggest you PM draagonstorm; I tried to find the post about hers, but failed miserably !

ed: here (http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?p=803963&highlight=corner#post803963) is one post about it

AHAHAHA *raving lunatic laughter* i have found it! i think. apparently it sometimes assumes the alias of "corner rounder."

tricky little fiend! now i've cornered it (and its progeny) in amazon: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_hg/102-9532514-1684113?initialSearch=1&url=search-alias%3Dgarden&field-keywords=corner+rounder

CORNER ROUNDERS

In case you want to trim some more decks
here are some links I found interesting:

Today, my NEW Lassco CR 20 desktop corner rounder was delivered:
I bought it new on ebay for $142.50 - included shipping.
(I plan on always trimming cards that are too large for me to shuffle -
will, no doubt, eventually be hundreds and hundreds of decks! )
So I wanted a really good one. Well, I just tried it on a Tarot card... and it
works so easy and PERFECT corners! I bought the rounder with the 1/4" die
cutter. It is WONDERFUL  :)

The 1/4" cuts the corners the EXACT SAME size as the DruidCraft card
corners. That size is just perfect for what I want, although, some ATer's
prefer the 3/8" for much rounder corners... just a matter of preference. :)

Here is the company I bought it from - in Canada - and this is the one I bought:

If this auction is deleted, over time, just contact the company by going to
their ebay store here:

And for those ATer's that don't want to pay that much... there are some other corner rounders below:

I've now gone hunting for corner cutters in two different cities (long story!) and found very similar things in both, so hopefully my experience will be helpful to some. I mostly tried in the sorts of major suburban stores that can probably be found all over the U.S.

Michael's--don't waste your time. Couldn't find anything there. I did accidentally purchase this thing (http://www.fiskarscrafts.com/tools/t_photo-corner-punch-round.aspx) there--it really looks from the packaging like it's going to just cut a corner. Hopefully someone else can learn from my mistake.

Jo-Ann Fabrics--varies by store. On their website they distinguish between "smaller stores" and "larger superstores," and I found nothing in the smaller store but a nice selection in the larger ones.

Unfortunately, my local independently-owned scrapbooking store had nothing. Yours will certainly vary.

I didn't check office stores (Staples, Office Max), but couldn't find anything promising on their websites.

Hope this helps someone!

Formicida, do you live in an urban area that has a large FedEx Kinko's copy shop?

One Kinko's near my house--but not the other--had a commercial corner rounder that they let me use for free so I could trim the matboard I used for my selfmade oracle deck. The craft punch I have wouldn't budge it.

ETA: Here (http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=60383) is the other thread on the same subject.

Ooh, now that's a nice tip. Thanks, M_M.

I ended up getting a Corner Adorner (http://www.joann.com/joann/catalog.jsp?CATID=cat2785&PRODID=prd35102&source=search) brand cutter at Jo-Ann. It works fine on the playing cards I've tested it on, so should be a go. But getting it for free from Kinko's would be great too, especially for those making their own decks.
