Is there going to be a companion book for this deck Lee?

I have finally found a deck that I truly connect to being a gay guy.

Thanks! :)

Hi martyn, glad you're enjoying the deck!

The publisher, Lo Scarabeo, has no plans at present to produce a book for the deck. I am certainly willing to write one if they should change their minds. :)

Attn: Lo Scarabeo

I would like to officially pre-order my Gay Tarot companion book, written by Lee Bursten, at this time.
Thank you and have a groovy day.

we should get a petition to lo scarabeo to enable lee to write the companion book! :)

...what a book it would be!

I was reading Frederick Morgan's small poem-essays of the Mitelli Bologna majors and sighed...the book is known as "The Tarot of Cornelius Agrippa."

I sometimes will read newer fiction/non-fiction authors if there are art media -- movie, graphic novel or tarot cards -- to support their stories.

I think I've read all of Lee's collective tarot essays on Tarot Passages (reviews).

Maybe we'll fondly look back at this thread when a book comes out...Jeremy Tarcher and Sons puts out great artistic teaching books. It needn't only be Llewellyn or Lo Scarabeo...but wouldn't they be wise if they did pick Lee up while they could afford him...?

I originally joined this forum after asking where was the book to go with the Gay Tarot, and Lee is right, they have not asked him - yet - to write a companion book for the deck.

How many names on the petition before they will?

i think if we all join forces we could get lo scarebeo to publish a book!

Martyn. :)

Hi folks, I have heard from Lo Scarabeo on this, and it turns out that there is a very slight possibility that this may one day come to pass, it depends on the overall direction they take on several decks, and first they have to see how things work out. So we'll have to wait and see.

Thanks everyone for your support! Your feedback makes a difference.

Mmmm, just generating thoughts on the inevitiable companion book. From perusing the multiple threads on Lee's Deck. They contain many ideas for Lee to expand on I hope, explanations of the cards, spreads they can be used on, tailored for the gay community but available for all as alternative views on other peoples issues and questions. I'd love to see both brief and detailed sections on the cards, lots of spreads to try out. Expansive thoughts generated from this forum acknowledged. Advice on undertaking readings for gay men in multiple relationships, without making them decide on one or another guy... would be useful. Lots more to add to the list, but later on perhaps. Does this thread belong here? If not, moderator should feel free to move it on... :-)

i think that if the deck sells very very well LS will be asking for a companion book to cash in on the deck's popularity . and from what i heard here at AT on other site's and from some friends the deck is doing very well !

so i already ordered 4 more decks to give to my ex and good friends

Great news that the drums are beating around the world spreading the message that there is a need for the book! I'd like to know what other forums are around that have touched on this book. In the middle of a spread, celtic cross, for the world and the UK at the moment. Got lots of Major's in the spread, may post the results in the appropriate place when done. Would the book perhaps have a mini-companion, spreads in pdf format on a CD? [okay just asking!;-)] The price of a book needs to be considered, I'd pay upto 10-12 GBP for it, not much more. Its got to look good, be more than a flick-thru and throw on top of a pile of Tarot collections. Peace and hugs to all GT reader's, XXRobin

...I saw a review of a tarot conference in New York on TarotPassages where they said they used Lee's tarot to play Tarot Rummey...I'd be interested in reading about that...

...and maybe the 2007 Llewellyn Tarot Reader or other magazines could have a few articles by Lee or others on their use of the Gay Tarot...that might assist bringing a book together...

I haven't yet defined my use of this deck. I like this deck and the Pagan Tarot for their 'everyday' setting--I noticed there's a kind of twentieth-to-twenti-first century flavor that make these good decks to blend in with other mixed deck readings....I'm eagerly waiting for the 78 Doors to use as a blended mix of two deck readings with the Gay Tarot. The everyday flavor of the Gay Tarot and the fanciful flavor of the 78 Doors might be fun...(I'm not into the Witchy Tarot theme by the same artist). When I get both decks together, I'd love to write up on that experiment...

In the same way, I also use the Pagan Tarot with the Olympus because I like the art style of the artist and having modern and Greek Godlings interact Western settings.

Best regards,

Cerulean

Thanks, Cerulean! The 2007 Llewellyn Reader won't have any articles on the Gay Tarot (at least not by me), however the 2006 Reader (due out soon, I think) does have an article by me on the deck's creation.

That was interesting about Tarot Rummy at the Reader's Studio, somehow I missed that page in the Tarot Passages article. Now I wonder how I can learn to play!

I love reading your descriptions of the different decks you choose to combine for readings. It always inspires me to pick out a couple of decks from off my shelf and try it myself.

Lee, and other supporters of a companion book.

I wrote a note to LS and recieved the following reply....

Dear Robin,

I'm sorry but at the moment, no book on the Gay Tarot has been planned.
We understand how the book could be interesting, and rewarding, however.

Anyway, if such a book is going to be done, the person who could and
should write it is Lee Bursten.
If he wishes to create such a book, we would be happy to consider it.

Best regards,

Riccardo Minetti
Lo Scarabeo

So Lee, do you have a Tarot Book inside waiting to jump onto the pages? I would buy it on spec, and since last year, I hope you have rested enough since the creation of the deck to consider putting a project together to create the book. We on the forum would help if you wish?

Regards

A long and windy road... ^_^

I work here and I must admit I don't really understand LS policy toward books.
Maybe because we are necessarily contracdictory...

Main discussion in general sense toward the books are:
- we don't yet know if books are profitable or they are not.
- books enter only a very limited market... i.e. English speaking countries.
- books are a often a pain, as no one of us is qualified to work with written word.
- books do not sell alone, but just as part of set editions.
- we can do a limited number of books, every year. Which ones? Should we do the best decks, the best selling decks, the decks that more need a book to be understood... ?
- should we do a book when a deck is created or later, once we "know" about the deck

Obviously I don't have answers... but the questions are always that.
We quite liked the Gay Tarot. It felt "good" in many a way.
Obviusly we can't stand Lee as a writer, and a person (hi hi ^^).

So we shall consider it.
And we will see.

Best,

Riccardo

Oh Goody, its being considered.... :-)!! {Jumps up and down....}

We await with baited breath for a positive response from the September Meeting

I'm sure all gay tarot readers, admirers and persons of studious natures will want to 'help' with this project, if Lee wants help (?) I'm sure we can and should help with suggestions, as other threads have covered much material. A final product will be Lee's considered material, what to include, what to leave out, and we will then argue about it in the forum, hahaha!

Love, Hugs, and Blessings to all

Those in waiting I'd suggest you try keeping a Tarot journal in the meantime. I started one for Gay Tarot writing two pages a card and I'm nearly finished the Majors. It makes it a very ideal personal guidebook just for you and your own perspective of the deck separate from other readers. Copy out the LWB's blurbs for each card and then put your own details below it...you'll never need to carry the LWB again and you'll have a richer analysis!

So what happened in the September meeting? I would love to see a book on this deck. I orginally bought if because I liked the art work. I don't have any gay clients that I know of, but imagery of this deck is a draw to the young men that I read for. I have never shared its name. They choose it because they are drawn to the positive images of men. I thing that says alot about the excellent energy of this deck.

Lee, it sure would be nice to have a companion book to Gay Tarot. We should start a campaign to get Llewellyn to consider it.

You have done a remarkable job being connected to all of us fans here on the message boards. Your responses have given me a better understanding of the deck which I wish was available beyond our virtual home here.

As creator of the Brotherhood Tarot, I have just finished its Companion Book and will be excited to see how people resond to the Gay History and mythology that I've included in the cards along with a deeper understanding of its meaning & my own path to creating the deck.

A special thank you goes out to you, Lee, for getting me in touch with Llewellyn to include your Lover's card in my book side by side with The Cosmic Tribe Tarot, Son Tarot, and Gay Male Tarot.

If you need another voice to get a Gay Tarot Companion accomplished, count me in!

Blessings,
Pipa

so haven't seen a book on amazon for this book yet. i realize the thread is pretty old, so any info about if the book is going to be written/published? I'm new to the group and tarot in general, and just bought this deck recently.

We have suggested and pleaded for a book to go with the Gay Tarot for such a long time, its got to happen one day. The sooner the better. Any campaign will need persistence and patience. Plus writing to LS, and perhaps its rivals? Keep on Posting in this forum, contacting LS and anyone else you think would publish a companion book to the GT by Lee.

Welcome to the campaign. :-)
