A while back I set some flag or other, and now my outgoing messages are not saved. I remember ticking some box to that effect. Now I have changed my mind and want to save my outgoing messages. I have looked and looked and cannot see where that gets changed. Help!

You need to check the option "Save a copy" below the message when you are sending it. As far as I know, there is no general option that lets you save all your outgoing message by default.
