View Full Version : Haindl Tarot books
I was wondering if anyone had the books to the Haindl tarot books, particularly the Major Arcana one.
Im most interested in whether she goes into the runes in any good amount of detail, since they are the same ones as on my Rohrig and the Rohrig book does not nearly say enough about the runes.
:THP
I just got them today from a trade, as well as the deck. I have all three books and the deck. Although I haven't had the chance to really read them yet, I assume that she does. She gives at least 5 pages to each of the majors. Also, in her Minor Arcana book, she goes into the meanings of the I Ching, so, she must go into the meanings of the runes.
What is the third book? I know theres one on majors and one on minors, whats the third?
:THP
I got a German translation and me thinks it's the book about Majors and the one about Minors rolled in one volume. I still haven't had time to read it, though.
I was wrong Liliana, the third book has the meanings of the runes in it.
The Haindl Tarot: A Reader's Workbook by Rachel Pollack.
ISBN 1-57281-220-6
So the majors book does not have the rune meanings?
:THP
The majors boof does as well. It is just that in the third book, it it given it's own little sub-heading under the main heading. In the majors book, it is integrated into the text. All books are great, and well written, by the way!
Hope this helps!
It does, i can get the majors book fairly cheap im not sure if i can get the other one at a good price hehe
:THP
Anyone who's interested should check eBay. I'm pretty sure I saw a complete set of Haindl deck and both Pollack books for really cheap. Random things like that come up all the time, but quite irregularly. So I find it's good to keep checking back.
I have been really entranced by the artwork on the Haindl deck but I would really love to know more. Just liking the art hasn't enabled me to read with it at all. Rachel Pollack rocks so I'm sure they will be good. They've been on my wishlist for a while now.

Liliana - I have the US Games Haindl book. Just got the deck a few days ago, and the artwork is fabulous.
I just brushed the dust off my copies of these two books and peaked through. I loved them and considered them a wonderful resource once upon a time because they're filled highlights and enthusiastic notes along the edges. I can't remember any of it... I'll have to reread them from scratch. There's worse things in life. :)

Trying to learn this deck, but Rachel Pollack is not an easy read. She wrote the Guidebbok that I own.
Okies, I have the pink book (the 3rd one) ... can anyone who owns all three tell me if having this 3rd book is enough. I have not read it yet (another study project on hold) but I wanted to verify that this book works well independently of the other two. Thanks.
Jewel, I think that you should at least get the book on the Majors. Pollack goes in depth with all of the symbols on the cards.

Hi Jewel, I have all three and my opinion is that it's actually better to start with the pink one you have, it's more directly directed to reading and is more straightforward. There's plenty there to keep you busy, and if you get through that and want more, then you have plenty of time to get the other two, IMHO.

Thanks Lee! I almost got the other two books last week but as I do not think the Haindl will ever be my primary deck I thought the one I have is probably enough. I love the Haidl and it is most intriguing to me, but I think I would rather devote hard core study time and financial resources when I have to to the study of the Thoth. However should I ever find the Haidl books up for trade ... then I would probably trade for them.

I have both the deck and the majors book, and love both. I was able to read with the Haindl deck right away, but gained so much (and am still gaining so much) insight because of that book. I really want to get the minors book as well.
What I should have done, looking back, is gotten the edition of the deck that comes WITH both books. Oh well.

YAY got the 2 Haindl books in trade!
