i want to learn

jema

at least the basics i should know.
my knowledge on astrology goes only so far as to about three or four major traits in the sunsigns - like cancer is over-emotional taurus very down-to-earth. i wouldn't even call it knowledge - more like predjudice. but the mass of literature and 2make your own chart" etc is confusing.
i need the basic stuff - like what planet rules wich sign and what things does that affect, like i know mercury is for communication.
pityful i know. but where does one start?
is there a site somewhere that you think is really good where i could learn? books? i have one by linda goodman that is just awful so i know to stay away from her books. (the one i have is called Linda Goodman's starsigns. and it hardly mentions astrology just a load of crap about rainbows and musical notes and ghosts)

excellent!!! that website looks just like what i want.
thanks. i did try a googlesearch and came up with about a million hits for "get your free astrology report today"
now i will go and check for the book too:)

Hello Jema,

So you wish to learn about astrology? Well, you have a myriad of choices...there are on-line classes that you can partake in...beginner books are abundant (the March/McGeever series is one of the best).

Additionally, numerous websites offer beginner information, a few are....www.stariq.com, www.medicinegarden.com,
www.innerself.com (has an astrology section with good articles) and of course there's lots more on the Web.

We're always happy to answer any questions you may have.

Enjoy your studies!!

Thank you , Luna , for that link, it's got a lot of good stuff on it.

I almost forgot...www.mountainastrologer.com
They have a good beginner series.

Lunafly, that's a wonderful website, very well done and easily understood. Thanks for posting.

I'd certainly echo the Mountain Astrologer recommendation.

There are loads of 'introductory books' on the market and again its worth going into a bookshop and looking through them to see what they look like, or browse online at Amazon. My first Astrology book was Nick Campion's Practical Astrologer - As a past president of the Astrological Association he is a good source. Parker's Astrology also sells well and is quite good and if you want to get away from pictures and have a more concentrated text Alan Oken's Complete Astrology is also good.

As with many things, some of these books suit some people better than others because we all learn in a slightly different way and prefer either different writing styles or prefer pictures and diagrams rather than a more in-depth coverage. So I repeat - browse first then buy. And don't be afraid to buy more than one!

As you develop you will begin to read books that specialise on one area but make sure you have the basics before you move on to these.

One last point, Astrologers, like doctors, lawyers, economists, and biochemists, argue over the 'correct' interpretation of data or the best way to perform certain tasks. Some methods will appeal to you more than others so go with them until you feel ready to look at alternatives. However don't assume that your method is the 'right' method just because you like it. It needs to work for you better than the alternatives if you are going to be successful.

oh my! i got a new bookmarks-folder here now:)
i am slowly reading through that first site lunalafey posted about. then i tried to get my chart in a form i could understand - but it is filled with them tiny symbols for the signs and planets and not in a chart at all - just a huge circle - very confusing.
but i more or less worked my own signs out by now.
it's slow work, this will take months to even begin to comrahend.
i still can ever remember which signs are with elements even.
but i kind of like the order in astrology. it's somehow very "neat"

that whole thing with "true node" and "chiron" is just very much over my head right now though.

thanks again for all advice!
you are all super!

Jema.

Don't worry about true nodes or Chiron. A lot of professional astrologers don't bother with Chiron - its one of those nice areas where there is heated debate and the same is true about true nodes and mean nodes. If you never look at them but spend your time on signs, planets and houses you will never miss them.

Only bother, if at all, when you are really happy about grasping the basics and feel like exploring elsewhere - and even then I would have them well down the list!
