View Full Version : Removing dye
I have a piece of Howlite that's dyed blue, and I was wondering does anyone know if I can remove the dye without damaging the stone? If so, how? Thanks.
Hi, I know that rubbing alcohol will remove most of the dye, but will probably also remove that nice polished surface and you may be left with a dull white stone. Stone could be re-polished by a lapidary but at that point you may as well just buy a piece of white howlite (would be cheaper).
All the best,
Blue dyed Howlite is often sold as "reconstructed" Turquoise but I also think it is not worth the effort of trying to remove the dye because Howlite is not so a very precious stone. You can normally come across a white Howlite pretty cheaply.
