Andy,

I'm not sure what you mean by the traditional astrology. But if you are interested in the astrology we generally discuss in this forum there is a thread right at the top which lists resources for beginners. All of the books listed are excellent.

My own recommendation would be to start with Robert Hand's "Horoscope Symbols." I'm far from being an authority, though. The book is available through Amazon and you might like to see some of the reviews

Dear Andy,
There is no one authority on Astrology. I assume you are referring to
Natal Astrology. If you're really serious about it the first thing you
need to do is get a print out of your natal chart. Several sights on
the internet offer one for free. Good Luck!

If I could do it over again (instead of picking up the bargain book on astrology at B&N), I would go to amazon and look through what they offer, and read the reviews. They are really helpful and the customers reviewing them usually explain what they did and did not like about the books.

Other than that the sticky at the top of the astro. page gives many good books to start from.
