Hi everyone,

Just got my Tao Oracle today. It's stunning. And it looks fascinating, athough quite complex to learn. Anyone have it? Or tried the I-Ching exercise with the 3 coins. I would love to hear how that worked for people.

My card 12 came damaged, so I am taking that to mean there is something in me or in my life related to that card that I need to fix...I am hoping St Martin's Press will replace it for me, as I would rather have a new card than a new deck.Wish me luck with that. I just wrote them to ask...

Hi Babs,

I was unlucky too, my deck came with two #56's and no #55.

I have written to St.Martin's Press (by e-mail) also but so far no reply (has only been 4 days).

Hopefully they will give good customer service.

All the best,
Ruby7

Wow, you two make me think I'd better go through and check my cards. I'm not sure I ever looked to see if they're all there!

I absolutely love the artwork in this deck. It's glorious, she's one of my favorite tarot/oracle artists. I find this deck warmer and more human than the rather intellectual Osho Zen. The few times I've read with it, it was pretty deep.

I'll admit I've never tried the method with the coins, it just confused me too much. Truth is, I don't really understand divination with the I Ching - I'm just using it as an oracle, not learning the hexagrams and the lines.

Babs and Ruby7, I hope they send you replacement cards! You deserve to play with a full deck...

Good luck Ruby7. I wrote yesterday and no reponse yet, not suprisingly as you have waited 4 days. Me too, I e-mailed them. I guess they don't have a set plan to deal with this kind of thing. I told them I did not want a replacement deck, as I am sure Amazon would replace it for me, but with spiritual tools I like to keep the one that first came, so I just asked about a replacement for the card.

I hope we both hear from them soon.

Oh and that think about the coins, I'm kindof excited about trying it. I can't say I fully understand it yet, sounds complicated, but I figure I'll figure it out as I go. I like the idea of being able to know not just what the situation is, but what's changing in it and in what direction.

I have this Deck! I am very pleased with it on all sorts of levels. The Artwork is great; The card quality is superb! The size of the cards are excellent for me. The only cards where the frame does not intrude- at all. Even the Keywords are tasteful in size. No complaints.
I have been reading about I Ching for sometime and have a friend who reads the yarrow sticks. He has looked at the cards and finds them pictorially great and faithful to the concept.
I draw a card a day by flipping three coins- it is amazing I have had no repeats in a month- so I am learning card by card.
If you don't understand how to flip here goes
Get three coins and decide which face stands for Yang and which for Yin.
Yang is three points and Yin is two points.
add the values when you have tossed/flipped the coins.
If they add up to 6 ( 3X 2 point yins) that is a changing Yin line -x- which means you give it the Yang straight line
7 = the straight Yang - line
8 = the broken Yin - - line
9 = the Changing Yang -o- which becomes - - instead
Start from the bottom and toss coins six times to get your lower and upper lines.
Hope that is not clear as mud! It is a great Oracle and very clear. ~Rosanne

Thanks Rosanne,

The I think I get that part, at least I think I do.LOL I will know better once I try, I just got the deck yesterday.

What confuses me is when you pull a card, how you know what is changing in the situation. I think I am getting how to for the hexogram with the coins, but I get lost after that point.

Let's say as in the books example, lines 4 and 5 change...then what does that mean to the original meaning. In the book card 14 becomes card 9. Does that mean that the meaning to card 14 is negated. Or just that Card 14 is now, lines 4 + 5 are changing and that means you are heading towards card 9 as your future? I figure this last version is the right one, but it's so confusing,

Any advice???

I have the deck as well but have not used it much yet. The artist lives in Victoria and is shortly having an art exhibition in Melbourne. I wrote to her and hope to meet her then.

I love the Osho Zen too. It's a peaceful deck.

The Osho Zen is my all time favourite Tarot. It's a real education packed in a deck or cards, a real book of wisdom. I adore it.

Hi SunChariot- I read your post and I went HUH???. I then I realised what you were doing.
What I do is this-
I toss the coins six times and write them down as I toss from bottom to top. Then I look to see if I got any changing lines and I do the changed hexagram next to the first one and the changed one is the one I take out of the Deck.
Example : from bottom to top is Changing Yang -o-, Yin - -, Yang--, Changing Yin -x-, Yin - -, Yin - - .
That has now become from bottom to top Yin - -, Yin - -, Yang--, Yang--, Yin - -, Yin - - = Card 62 Small is Beautiful. Your Bottom line changed so read over the page for the bottom line and your line 4 changed so read that section. Easy peasy once you have got the hang of it (it took me a little while lol)~ Rosanne

Yes, good luck to you too!! Still no response for me. I'm going to try and get a phone number. I am the same situation as you. I can return it to Amazon but I'd rather just have the card replaced.

All the best,

Well if you find the number, would you PM me it if you can? Hopefully it will be an 800 # as I am not even in the same country, here in Canada...

Hi everyone,

I bought this deck last year, based on Contrascarpe's recommendation (as he used to pull a card from both Tao and Osho in his Daily Osho Zen thread). They really do compliment each other.

I also have i-ching books and was aware of i-ching before I bought the Tao, so the yin/yang thing doesn't phase me.

Though Roseanne, are you saying that you throw the coins to pick the corresponding card from the deck? I usually fan the deck out and pick from that and only use the coins to see if the lines are changing/moving.

with love

Hi Babs,

I'm in Canada too. I didn't bother to get a number since I read on their website somewhere that their policy is for products to be returned to place of purchase. In other words St.Martin's Press does not want to deal with customer problems. Still no response to my e-mail so I have sent my set back to Amazon. Not impressed.

I guess it looks like I will have to do that too. Same here, definitely not impressed. Even if they have a policy, they still should answer their e-mails from customers. It certainly makes you feel they don't give a darn about you.

I can definitely sympathize....the same thing happened to me. I sent MANY emails to St. Martin's Press and received no response. :(

BUT then someone here suggested that I contact Eddisons, which I believe is the UK division of SMP. I wrote to the following email address:

reception@eddisonsadd.co.uk

I was amazed to receive an email response the SAME DAY and received my missing cards (from Sharman-Caselli) within a week (UK to US). Might be worth a try???

I hope this is helpful....best of luck to both of you!

Thanks for the info Lunakasha!

I sent my set back to Amazon a few days ago and have already been refunded, but will keep this in mind in case I have any other problems with St.Martin's Press.

Thanks,
Ruby7
