Hey folks,
I had such a laugh on Friday, I thought I'd share this story with you.
I do one card daily draws with my World Spirit Tarot, and I've noticed before that it has a great sense of humour (overall it's such a friendly deck, I take it everywhere I go so I never feel lonely ). Sometimes I just pull a card to ponder, sometimes I ask for advice for the day, lately I've often asked "what is important for me today". Last Friday on a whim, I said I'd like a surprise card please, that is, a card for what will be a surprise for me that day. I haven't done this too often but I got some wild results with that before.
The card I drew was the Four of Wands, which shows three staves at the front and a fourth in the background as a maypole, with people dancing around it. So I thought, well it's Beltaine soon, maybe it's got something to do with that. But since it'd be a surprise anyway I didn't give it any more thought.
Well, then I went to an appointment with my dentist, to have some major root canal treatment on two teeth. Usually the simple mention of this would be enough to really freak me out, but very luckily I found the best dentist in the world and weird as it is, I really like going there. The people there are the friendliest, nicest folks I've ever come across at a dentist's, and well, they just make me feel totally okay about having an hour or two of root canal treatment on a Friday morning.
The first surprise was I was to be treated by a young, brand-new colleague (it's a group practice with a dentist and a specialist in facial and oral surgery), but he felt nothing like a Four of Wands. We had a lot of fun though, between all the instruments and drills and things there was plenty of room for joking around. So he makes a start with one of the two teeth, takes an x-ray shot of the root canals, and when he looks at the picture... "now I've never seen anything like this, you know", and I say, what's it? and he showed me the picture. It really looked like the third root canal went totally off course and right through the neighbouring tooth! Of course, that couldn't be the case, but he did get my regular dentist to take a look at it and he said he'd never seen such a thing either (telling me he'd always known I was a bit weird anyway ). They took another picture at a different angle and finally agreed that the canal must somehow wind its way past the neighbouring tooth, but it was weird.
So... after all the filling and rebuilding and whatnot and much joking about this root canal that went completely elsewhere, they finally set out on the second tooth. And I said, well I wonder what surprises this tooth will have in store for us? and the dentist and the assistant both said, oh no, this one's gonna be straightforward, you'll see Hehe, I should have already guessed it by then! (Have you?)
And he takes out the temporary filling and inserts those tiny needles into the canals... and after two needles he grins and says to the assistant... guess what?... and she says, well what?... and he says, well... I think this tooth has............................
FOUR ROOT CANALS!......
I nearly cracked a rib during that session, it was so funny. (Apart from being confined to a dentist's chair for two and a half hours, under constant threat of lockjaw.)
Well, I reckon a Four of Wands, with one of the Wands being the odd one out, is about the closest a tarot card can get to a tooth with four root canals instead of three. So my two dentists and me, we all agreed that I was indeed a bit of an oddity, and I had a wonderful day and went shopping for more decks in the afternoon.
