My astrology program does compatabilty interpretations that are quite good. I did one for me and my dog before I bought him (well actually for him and also his brother, trying to decide which would suit me better. Not much of a difference really, they were not born that fare apart, although the rising signs were different).
I did read here once that your children often have your sun sign or other strong element of your chart as their rising sign. I've not looked at many families so far, but in a very high percentage of them that has been true.
