I've added Brian Williams' Renaissance Deck set to my collection. It's beautiful - I love the golden touches. It's a great deck for me because I love mythology and Tarot and it combines them both! Do any of you regularly read with this deck?
My new deck spread with the Renaissance is Temperance, The Fool and The World - definitely a beautiful relationship.
I've also got my eye on the Medieval Scapini...
Any thoughts and opinions on that one? Readability factor?

I stayed awa fro ll old-style decks for years, until my boyfriend took ythe initiative and bought me 5for my birthday, inclusing the Medieval capini, and now the MS is one of my faves!
The artwork s gorgeous, and some of teh card are very weel done inded. The HPS for this deck is one o the most stunning I hae seen in a long time! Te Minors are partially illustrated, and often seem quite h,ourus... This deck is very easy to readwith I found aswell, and is nice to look at.
One deck which you might want to add to you collection is he Visconti Sforza, which mos people say is the oldest around. That has been discovered anyway!)

i have the renaissance deck and the book. i agree about the use of the gold touches and mythology make this deck extra special. i haven't learned to read it yet. i also have the minchiate, tarot of light and shadow, and the pomo. i must say that i like the pomo the best. it's a deck w/ a real sense of humor. brian wms has a deck called "ship of fools" that is being published posthumusly in september. i don't know if i'll like it but i plan on getting it b/c i've got his other decks. i really like his style of writing-easy to understand and coloration on decks--soft and pastel. he was an expert on italian history and art. a real loss to the world of tarot.

I am having amazing readings with my Medeival Scapini... absolutely wonderful. Kiama described this deck very well. I actually like the lwb that comes with it, how it describes each card. The Medeival Scapini is in my elephant tarot box, I had a very hard time figuring out which deck to put in that box, and the MS got it! And I collect and adore elephants, so this is saying alot about the Medeival Scapini! hehe

i've been thinking about the medieval scapini but haven't been able to make up my mind. but w/ all the positive votes here... ;)
Well, just to balance things out, I dislike the Medieval Scapini. The art style just doesn't appeal to me. People are drawn with exaggerated features and extreme postures. Makes me say "ugh" when I look at it.

I really want the Visconti Gold Tarot by Lo Scarabeo. I hear it is amazing in person! Does anyone here have it???

The Visconti Gold is lovely to me.
However I copied and reduced the LWB from the Pierpont Morgan (commentary by Stuart Kaplan) to fully appreciate the deck. Some details are blurred, but I like the Marseilles-style decks to play with.
I do find the Medieval Scalpini as quirky and humorous as a satirical look at illuminated manuscripts. But if you check some illuminated manuscript details, sometimes you see little jokes as rabbits romping around romantic couple or funny imps. I don't use it for reading, but somehow it sits with the Shakespherean Tarot by Norwicki. The themes of both are interesting, so I may get to them, after...well, I'm playing with my St. Petersberg and an interesting variation, the Golden Tarots of the Tsar. They complement one another...

i got it to compliment my nefertari deck since it also uses gold foil. it's not nearly as shiny as neferteri but it makes an okay deck look much more attractive. i got mine to use to read calvino's "castle of crossed destinies". i like it best of my decks that use pip cards. i haven't used it in a reading yet. there's just something about that gold foil look that i like. it makes a deck look exquisite and richer.

I like the look of the renaissance (not spelt correctly)
But I already have 5 waiting to be delivered and my hubby would do his nut if he realised how much I'm spending on Tarot stuff! :D

I love the look of this deck :) I can't wait to try it out and the book that came with it (book set) looks great!
Thanks to those of you that recommended it!

I don't read regularly with my Renaissance deck (Brian Williams version), but it is beautiful! I didn't know there was a specific book for it, apart from the LWB...I might have to search this one out. What's it called?

the big book is called "a renaissance tarot: a guide to the renaissance tarot" by brian williams. i think it's worth getting. good writing and history of the italian roots of tarot.

I have Medieval Scapini and I love it, very detailed and beautiful artwork, it only comes with a LWB but the book still has a reasonable amount of info each of the cards - fully recommend. I have mine in a tote from tarot totes that has gold cord to match the golden backs of the card - lovely :) Haven't done alot of reading with the deck though
I just bought the Scalpini Medieval deck last night. It is a very beautiful deck of cards. I was also curious as to readable they are. I have not used them yet. I have began to cleanse them by passing them through the smoke of an insense and saying a prayer. I was wondering how this deck compare to the rider-waite deck. I am still learning the tarot in general (been practicing tarot for maybe over 2 years). Does anyone that is well-versed in the tarot, or familiar with this peticular deck have any advice or information that would be helpful to us "newbies"? I would appreciate any and all advice/information that anyone could offer me, including about cleansing the deck of cards. and also about what to do with a brand new set of cards that have never been used before. is there a certain ritual or special instructions that i should follow before using them for the first time?
Thank you
Maureen

I don't want to be confusing to you, but I don't find the Rider Waite and Medieval Scapini to be that close. Luigi Scapini is an artist, scholar and humorous. The humor comes out in his LWB.
I prefer the decks of his from the Italian publishers.
1.Someone who recently has bought the Medieval Scapini deck.
http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?t=37390&highlight=medieval+scapini
2.I have both the deck and a recent book. The art is nice, the book is interesting (Art and Archana by Ronald Decker). My suggestion is to buy the Art and Archana book
http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=29481
The Medieval Scapini is a fine deck--but I prefer the art and commentary in the Romeo and Juliet deck by Luigi Scapini, published by Dal Negro. I keep the Medieval Scapini for reference.
3. I've had three Scapini tarot decks for over five years and the only one that I read with is his Stained Glass Tarot. Just my preference.
Sorry I cannot answer your other questions, but hope that these above links will be helpful for starters. I've been reading with old style decks from 1998-1999, tarot since about 1996...we all develop our own styles...I'm certain many opinions will be posted and they all may differ from my own. I hope you enjoy your new deck.
Best regards,

Yes i do and i love it. it is my favourite older style deck :) . The cards are beautiful with the gold on them and it is not overdone at all as some of the gold decks cxan be. I also have the mini but don't like it anywhere near as much as the larger version.
