Hi!

I have just come to see two of Walter Wegmueller Tarots: Newage (Neuzeit) and Gypsy Tarot Tsigane Tarot (Zigeuner).

Does anyone of you have one or both of those decks? the art I have seen on the deck seems to be quite modern... :D

I remember having seen both of them when I started reading the Tarot - but back then they were simply too *wild* and *odd* for me to grasp, so they did not really appeal to me.

I have asked in a local bookstore for the Newage Tarot, but they told me it was OOP? I have seen that on Tarotgarden, it is still available?

Just curious... gosh, with you guys in my life I am getting really a Tarotholic! Where can I sign up for the Anonym Tarotholics? :D

As far as I know both decks are still listed in the current catalogue of AGMüller so I suppose they should still be available.

I have both of the Wegmuller decks (Neuzeit and Zigeuner), and they are very unique and somewhat psychedelic decks. They both are available from Alida (http://www.alidastore.com/indexen.html).

The Zigeuner deck is the earlier of the two decks, and was also produced in a limited larger size edition which is hard to find (I have only seen it on eBay). The artwork in the Neuzeit is a little more refined than in the Zigeuner deck, but both feature very "trippy", very detailed, very unique artwork. Overall, I prefer the artwork from the Neuzeit deck, but both are cool.

Thank you for the information! :)

I might get both decks, I am not sure about that yet. I agree - from what I have seen the cards seem to be packed full with symbols and information and the artwork certainly is interesting. I was just wondering if it could be almost too "much" and too "odd" for some people. I have never seen cards like this before really in another deck. Walter Wegmueller sure has it's style. ;)

Speaking of Wegmuller's style, here's a *real* oddity. Walter Wegmuller teamed up with a group of 6 other musicians called "The Cosmic Couriers", to produce a Tarot two-disk CD! This features 22 tracks, one for each Major Arcana cards. I believe this Tarot CD was originally issued in the mid to late 1970's.

I would classify the music as experimental/space rock, similar to early Pink Floyd music. I only listened to it once, and recall it wasn't very good. But I think over this long weekend I'll put on my tie-dye shirt, turn on the lava lamp, and have another listen.

Howdy :) Strange2 ~ What's the verdict (and wanna make a trade)?

The music in the Wegmüller Tarot CD is somewhat unpolished as if the musicians/magicians were just learning their craft, but it has its cosmic charm nonetheless, and is a keeper for me. If you're interested, I got it from CD Quest (www.cdquest.com). I have attached images of the CD packaging, which features the 22 Major Arcana of the Zigeuner.

Also of interest to fans of Wegmüller's Zigeuner Tarot is the book "The World of Tarot", by Sergius Golowin (ISDN 0-87728-642-6). This provides meanings, insights, and images of both the Major and Minor cards of the Zigeuner/Gipsy Tarot Tsigane.

And thanks for the kind birthday greeting, Fulgour! The big 50. I celebrated by climbing to the top of the El Castillo pyramid in the Xunantunich Mayan ruins in Belize. Was wearing an Ironwing Tarot t-shirt!

Hi Strange2 :) Yes! Golowin's book is fantastic!
here's a link to sources of the Weiser edition...
(although there is a USGames [?] version too)

We have the large Zigeuner, and my wife and I now also have
matching :) Tsiganes. The pronunciations were challenging...

Zigeuner ~ tsih goy' nehr
Tsigane ~ (t)see' gahn

Belize! What an exciting adventure! And hey, since
we're practically neighbours (and fellow 'Cub' fans),
any chance I could get a dub? The CD is expensive.

I am listening to the CD now, and I think it is great, but I am a big fan of German stuff from 69-79, so it sounds pretty fine to me.

The story goes it was one big acid trip, and the music was edited to make each piece for each card.

Psychedelic!
