I'm new to tarot, please read

Ninja421

Hey all, i'm recently got my first tarot deck "Dragon Tarot" I've never had anything like it! But i have a few questions:

1. How many tarot decks should i have?

2. What spreads should I begin with. I've used the new deck spread.

3. What is, "Bad Luck," to do with tarot?

Please get back to me on this.

Is it "The Dragon Tarot" by Nigel Suckling?
I ask because that deck speaks to me. ;)

1. How many tarot decks should i have?

To begin with------one. Preferably a RWS. (This is my opinion, mind you.) If you choose to have another kind, still stick with that one till you know it really, really well. If you have to have others, put them away for the first year till you know your first one like the back of your hand. (I didn't do that, so I can vouch for the fact that doing something else will keep you confused and frustrated.)

2. What spreads should I begin with. I've used the new deck spread.

Start out with one-card daily draws and 3-card spreads.

3. What is, "Bad Luck," to do with tarot?

"Bad luck" to do with tarot is listening to all the myths associated with it. :) There's been a lot of discussion here at AT about the myths associated with tarot. Do a search to find as many of those as you can and then don't let the myths bother you.

well said Lyric.....I couldn't have said it any better

so ditto to what Lyric said

Yes, double ditto to Lyric.

The Rider Waite Smith deck is a good deck to start with because it is the clearly understood, symbolically simplistic and it is the deck many decks are based on. Recommend you do a bit of reading about Arthur Edward Waite and Pamela Coleman Smith.

You can have as many decks as you wish, but keep your 'deck collecting' a side line from your 'deck study' at the moment.

The basic you need to understand are:
- the majors and their basic meanings
- the courts and their basic meaning
- the pips and their basic meanings

Understand the meaning of the numbers 1 - 10 and the significance of the number 0

Understand the 4 elements -
Wands - Fire - Spirit
Cups - Water - Emotion
Swords - Air - Intellect
Pentacles - Earth - physical

As Lyric recommended - 1 card daily draws and 3 card spreads..this is the best way to get familiar with the cards and the way they work together.

Bad luck...again as Lyric pointed out...just myths. Care for your deck and keep them safe. Always wash you hands before you handle them and make sure the space you are spreading is clean and dry. Recommend you get a nice spread cloth. :)

Hope this helps.

That looks like a good deck to start with...:)

If you feel a connection to it...go for it.

Connecting with a deck is also an important element of learning the tarot.

hello trismegistus

Let's say for now we're fairly sure we have the correct
Dragon Tarot, and continue along until Ninja returns...

Did you get to this page? The author's website looks
fantastic and when I get time, I'll explore the artists.

I keep my deck wrapped in a golden cloth and boxed
on a shelf under my pewter statue of the Cold Drake
by Rawcliffe. I use it for special readings just for me.

At first glance, that Wheel of Fortune is excellent.

did you see they're selling the original oil paintings of the Dragon Tarot?

thanks for the information everybody. The dragon tarot deck I have is this one by Peter Pracownik. I do feel some sort of connection with the deck when ever I use it, like a calm positive feeling. I'll use the spread you guys said I should. One last thing, is there anything else I should know about tarot?? Thanks for the info. again.
