Hermes?

AJ

As a fashion icon I would rate as the last one in the line...but I've been keeping my eyes open for silk scarves to incorporate into my spread cloth collection and keep running across ones like this

Who was Hermes? It would sure be fun to run across one of these scarves in the tag sale bin. I've seen them go as high as 800.00 US.

I think those are Way too busy to use for spread cloths, but it would be a way to silently introduce ourselves to other Tarotists when out and about.

edited to add, that I know who the original Hermes Trismegisto was

altho this particular link is on eye-bleeding red and most of the Egyptian info re: tarot seems to fly in the face of what I've learned here...
I was just wondering about the fashion Hermes connection.

That scarf is fantastic! I have a silk one called "Tarocchi by Olmo" (I only wear it on who-gives-a-damn holidays), although it only shows the zodiac, some esoteric-looking geometry and a (flawed - February has 30 days) calendar - and NOT A SINGLE TAROT CARD. But it's still lovely.

Hermes is very big designer from Paris (not originally, I guess, but that's where his main store is). I met him once in the early 1990s. They make men's and women's clothing, and perfume. There are stores in every very large city.

250 dollars? If you have it, buy it. But it may be available elsewhere.

Yes, the occult connection between Hermes Trismegistus (aka Mercury and Thoth) and tarot was first made by Antoine Court de Gébelin in 1781. Hermes is however credited in Greek and Latin sources with inventing games of chance, probably from an Egyptian belief to that effect, and the term for games of chance in Latin - alea - came to be applied to playing cards already by the 15th century. So there is background to Court de Gébelin's claim, even if nobody explicitly said Hermes invented tarot before he did.

Ha ha...I wouldn't pay 250.00 for a scarf even if I were a millionaire! 25.00 maybe if I were feeling really really flush.
No, I was just wondering if the designer is a tarot person, if anyone knew.

Ah, don't be so hasty. The feeling and satisfaction of fine clothing and accessories is nothing to be sniffed at. It is worth it to treat yourself to a few wastefully extravagant things, that you will wear only occasionally and will last a very long time.

Better still is to be given them as gifts.

Monsieur Hermes as a tarologue? I don't know... when I met him, he was at a conference of inter-religious dialogue, so he does have spiritual interests. But I couldn't say if extends to the esoteric.

Well, I got a bug in my ear and on further research found this wealth of information about the scarves themselves
http://forum.purseblog.com/hermes-reference-library/reference-guide-to-hermes-scarves-42225.html
which will probably get this moved to the Chat forum, but it's fascinating about the creation of the scarves.

Ross, I'm blessed to know I have everything I need...but there have been a few times in my life I've been at the real bottom. I'll never forget being that poor so purchasing a non-essential item for that much money won't happen. But gifted with...wow, what a treasure one of these would be to one of us.
