Ok, folks, another one for you: what do you use calcite for?

Although calcite is available in clear, honey colour, orange colour, red and green, I prefer the honey coloured one either to use it in:

Sun rituals (to invoke the warmth and golden sunlight),

rituals to enhance an optimistic, positive feeling,

to sooth and calm children,

to sooth tooth ache, back aches, broken bones.

What do you use calcite for?

Hi cj,

Yes, I have used this stone several times either for kids or adults, even when their problems seemed vague because they could or woul not put them into words.

Just give this stone a try when it calls out to you.

I also love the honey-colored calcite; it's like holding a piece of tangible sunlight in your hands. I've got some sun earrings (dangly kind) that are made of this stone. It makes me happy just wearing them (they make a lovely jingling sound when I walk).

I use calcite a lot!
The green I find very effective in healing work, especially in battling colds, Influenza, and any form of Infection.

The deep amber and clear calcite I use for energy amplification, (As if I should do this...HA!) specifically when performing spellwork, and want to really power it out. Blue calcite I use for meditation and dreamwork. I think calcite has my vote for being one of my most all around useful, and favourite stones.

Calcite is a beautiful stone...
It's also one that you must be careful with around water or it may be damaged.

Stalactites of calcite in all of the different colors are what make so many caves such beautiful and mysterious places to visit.

Scott Cunningham points out in his book the “double refraction” optical quality that calcite has. Many use this to amplify the power of spells.

I use calcite in much the same way as quartz, as they are similar in appearance and colour.

A little off of topic, but to anyone, please listen to you children.... even when it seems vague... My son always hated to go to school and complained about a kid bullying him. I put it off to be the usual kid problems until my son ended up in the hospital with a broken cheek bone in 2 places and the doctors fearing his eyeball may fall down into his cheek. The bully ended up with a criminal record over the incident because the crown could not let something like that go unpunished.

Catlin, I know you didn't mean that in your words, but it brought back memories of 10 years ago.... my son still suffers with cheek pain today as an adult.

I used a chunk of calcite whilst studying for my exams (i also smuggled it in my pencil case while taking them as well!)

I found it boosted my concentration, stopped me feeling tired, stopped my mind wandering off.

I hate revising and exams and find it a struggle to start, as there's always something "better" to do (i.e. watch the tv!). But the calcite really helped me!

I swear it boosted my memory as well!!

Here's a pic of it:

Mangano calcite is pink, opaque, and often banded like an agate. To me, it's the rose quartz of calcite. It has a marshmallows-and-bubble-gum feel to it that is very soothing to the inner child in a comfort-food kind of way. People have said it is a good stone to use with children, and I would have to agree based on my experiences. It's also a playful stone.

I got an orange calcite sphere and find it's a good substitute for amber. It's protective, soothing and grounding. While it is definetly an energizer, it's a more stable energy, imo, so is good to balance out a second chakra that is too active.

I find it pretty straight-forward too. So it can be used in combination with other stones. It seems to go particularly well with iron pyrite to strengthen.

And don't forget that calcite is relatively soft so should probably be stored separately from harder stones like quartz.
