I'm not sure if I'm a 'believer' in Crystals or not... but then I kinda like to have a few around anyway... hedging my bets I guess? Or is it that my subconscious knows what's good for me and tells my logical mind to take a hike?
I have a lovely rose quartz ox - its very large, around 10CM high by about 10 wide and 20 or so long - a big solid thing - that I bought my dad years ago and came back to me after he died. I'm wondering how carving might affect the qualities of crystals and whether the ox has any special significance - its Chinese - I guess I should go google feng shui ox....
I have it on the little cupboard of special things at our front entrance. Is this appropriate do you think?
cheers

hi euri.
when gems are carved into specific shapes then the helaing properties remain, but it also "acquires" the properties of whatever shape it is.
an ox to me stands for protection and reliability so couple that with the loving energy of rose quartz, and you have a great stone to place at the front of your house. :)

Thanks, Jue.. that's nice to know! He might balance out the rather fierce Guan Dis statue I have! He's a magnificent fellow, a warrior-scholar.
The Ox is a lovely piece, and I don't think I paid all that much for it at the time - it was before crystals became popular. But the moment I laid eyes on it I had to have it for my Dad.
I always regret not buying a wonderful terracotta Fu dog that I once saw at a second-hand shop. It was gorgous, with a real hand-made feel but fine quality at the same time - not rough, not cheap mass-produced (you know how some of them have no detail) - but I was pretty broke at the time.

I don't know if you have any books on crystals in your personal library Euri, but Judy Hall's The Crystal Bible has a section in the back on shapes of stones and their significance. It's a very good book to add to your collection and easily found in bookstores here in the States.
Your ox sounds wonderful..You might want to give him a bath in some running water from time to time. It helps to charge the crystal. Rose quartz is know for happiness.

Hi Euripides,
Your ox sounds wonderful! In Chinese astrology, the "ox" people tend to be those who are dependable, stable and are tireless workers who are solid and grounded (think of the Knight of Pentacles :)).
I collect tumbled stones as well as carved ones: skulls and Zuni fetishes mostly. I think the shape of the stone definitely affects the "feel" of it. My skulls have an "ancestor" feel to them, while my fetishes seem to take on the spirit of the animal they are carved in.
Take care,

hiya :)
sounds like a wonderful stone :)
I adore rose quartz too, fab stone, associated with lots of things, but especially love so what a lovely pressie to buy your Daddy and glad it came back to you when he passed away, nice to know you both shared a love for the ox, yes please do cleanse it from time to time as it will keep its vibrations high as im sure it picks up a lot of others vibrations considering its so big, Ox signifies solidarity and dependability, maybe you saw these qualities in your Dad and thats what brought you too it, what year was your Daddy born in, by any chance what his chinease astrolgical amimal an ox??
