View Full Version : Valentine's Exchange

SaintOfScreams

Would anyone be interested in doing a Valentine's exchange? I think it would be interesting to do parcels with different kinds of "Love" themes, like "World Love", "Self- Love", "Love for others", etc.

I wish that this exchange be open and fair to all Faiths, Orientations, Beliefs, etc...

By the way, to my Easter/ Ostara participants: I wasn't able to send you all cards, so I have recently sent them out! I am sorry for taking so long..... but please know your participance was dearly appreciated!

Also... we'll stop taking participants on the 20th.

The moderator suggests we move this thread to a Tarot Games and Fun category.. I think this would be beneficial....

I think this year we'll do partners... and have you exchange addresses with them privately.. I'll post a partners list.

I think we'll close the exchange on the 20th.

These were suggestions made by the moderator with the best interests of the participants in mind.

SaintOfScreams

OK, I emptied some messages.. So here it goes...

Well, you are given a theme or Holiday, and you make a box or package of "Goodies". It can be candy, candles, soap, crafts, tarot, oracles, antiques, pendulums, books, crystals, anything small really...

You may all list what your preferences are. Sometimes people list they are a certain Faith (If you do this, please be fair... we do not need wars), or you have a hobby, like a certain animal, or collect anything, basically tell about yourself and what you like.

Also, you may want to list things you are allergic to or can't eat/touch.
Please tell where you'd be able to ship to, as some people can't afford to ship to another continent.

Just a heads up. It seems like in all the exchanges I've taken part in, there have been one or two people (I hope not more) who have sent out parcels but never received one in return. If you take part, just be aware that you should do so purely with the spirit and joy of giving to someone else, not expecting to receive. That way if you don't receive anything, it's not such a dispppointment. :)

Hmmm... this really surprises me to hear - that some, in a place like this, would not give as well as receive....

Well, I guess, there are people like that everywhere.

And this is still such a lovely idea :)

It really is a lovely idea, I agree. So you can count me in on this. :)

I'll have to request to have an exchange partner within the US, though, if possible.

I would, of course, prefer an exchange partner from Europe if possible... :)

I'm really sad to hear some people had been disappointed. I've only been in two before, and everyone seemed happy. I'm preparing early, so whenever I have a few extra dollars I'm going to get a deck for any future exchanges I may do, and I ask that everyone tell when they get their package so I know we all have one.

This could also be the fault of the post, too- because I'm sure that everyone from here could be counted on to send something! :P

Count me in... I recently took part in the tea exchange, and thought it a lovely idea.

I'm in the uk, and would prefer Europe if possible.

Please everyone, think about how we want to do this, since everyone seems to want people in their own continents, we may do partners. But if we have an odd amount of people, we may have to go in a big circle.

I would like to be included in the U.S. and/or Canada exchange, either w/ a partner or a round-robin style. I'm new, but very reliable :)

Are we setting any kind of price point suggestion or range? I've never done one of these before, and have no idea whether we are talking US$10, US$50, etc.? Of course for $10, you couldn't find much unless you were SUPER lucky or SUPER crafty, :D

Hi Everyone; it's me again!
I also would prefer a valentine in Canada - or maybe the US since shipping to other destinations is "eating" half the treasure I could send....
Other than that I am exited!!!

I would love some guidelines too - so that I feel I'm not getting "ripped off" and more importantly so I don't get under by too much and disappointment the person I'm sending things to.

Nina*
18-01-2007, 08:17
Well.. if this is going to be something like the Secret Santa exchange...
For instance one person in that exchange got: a deck, an oracle, candles, a jewelry, a pendulum, a tarot bag, tea and incense.

I think most of them exchanged gifts like that, which is lovely... a lot of good stuff that in itself can vary in both price and nature.

I also think they all told (or put in their profile) if there were any decks on their wish list and if there were things they didn't like (or tolerated).

SaintOfScreams

In the exchanges we've done here recently, we all used handmade crafty things and "previously loved" things as well as small bought items and candies. Although it may have sounded like a lot of money was spent, it really wasn't. We gave decks we already had, for instance, and/or things we had made, things we may have had for awhile and loved ourselves and passed on to the partner. It's really wonderful and to me, made the exchange much more fun and sentimental to receive a deck or something that had meant a lot to my partner or to receive things that were made by them or small souvenirs of the area where they live, etc.

We're going to have to hurry up with this one, because it's getting close to the end of January and we haven't even received our partner's names yet. Mailings should probably be done by the first of February at least, if not a little sooner. It's getting close to mailing time and that's not going to give crafty ones much time to make anything.

All I'm going to say on this one for preferences is that I love previously loved and handmade things and that anything I receive will mean a lot to me. It's too involved to keep putting my preferences and all in a list. :) I just love surprises.

To the one who didn't want to get "ripped off", you have to concentrate on the blessing of giving because sometimes you're not going to receive or may not receive what you think is equal to what you sent, but that's not the spirit of it at all. If everyone who joins in the exchange makes a vow to themselves to send out their gift and sees that they do it, then nobody is going to get ripped off anyway. :)

Umm, yeah. A closing date would be nice so we can get the packages out in time so they arrive by Valentines..

And for me, who really doesn't start getting things together til I know who I'm supposed to send stuff to, it's good to have a little time to both think, plan and create those little handmade bits.
So, a closingdate soonish would be great - or a general okay that the package is permitted to be a little late.

I'm not too concerned about where in the world I send stuff since it's not that much difference between sending them within EU and outside of EU - provided I keep the size reasonable enough to fit in one of those padded envelopes the postoffice have in standard-sizes.

Oh, and wants?
Anything given with good intent really and I do like "odd things" that aren't too mainstream and carry a bit of personality with them. I'm into crystals, tarot, oracles, art, handmade just about anything, have a curiosity about all kinds of religions, adore things that inspire me to learn and looooove dark chocolate.

Can't abide licorice though...

Nina*
18-01-2007, 17:44
Thanks, Lyric - that sounds just lovely and I agree totally.

On the other hand I do understand the need to know something about what it *could* be (because I'd really feel stupid myself if I'd sent a piece of soap and received a lot more in return).

The idea about used and loved things is wonderful. :)

Like Eco, anything given with good intent; Tarot (you can check my profile), crystals, bags, handmade stuff, incense etc. (unfortunately my skin doesn't tolerate most soaps even if it's without perfume).
And I'm not very interested in angels or fairies...

That was me, and it's not really a conscious thing, necessarily. Some time ago, for example, I was in one of the tarot bag exchanges and was, um, less than happy with what I felt was the time comparison between what I made and sent off and what I got. I know, I'm an ungrateful wretch...

;)

Anyway, off to Joann's for some shopping for materials tonight. :)

Thanks for the guidance on what to include! I think that makes perfect sense, and I understand the previous poster's concern. As for wishes and wants for me, I'm truly open. I'm not allergic to anything and I like all kinds of stuff. I just got into Tarot, so I guess that's my particular passion. My profile lists all my current decks, and I love them all, but could probably share some of my love with a new friend. I love little deck bags, crystals and light-catchers & anything shiney that makes rainbows in the sunlight! :)

My husband doesn't like scented stuff, so I keep that at work so I can enjoy it without bothering his nose! :D (Bless his heart, he says all he likes is the "smell of clean").

I'm looking forward to hearing from my "partner" or from whoever I am to send to, so I can know what makes them tick! I may go to Hancock fabrics and do a little shopping myself. I've never made a bag (just bought them), so now's a good time to try my hand at it!

OK, I'll post some info on likes, etc.

My decks wishes are in my wishlist on my profile if my partner wonders about that.

I always need bags for decks because I never have enough bags. I prefer double drawstring type.

I love crystals a lot. Especially if they're those really sparkly ones that can hang in a window because I'd make a pendant of one.

Candles, incense and scented oil are good.

I don't need any candy but I'd gobble it up anyway. :D But I'd share with my grand-daughters I'm raising, I promise. :P

Figurines of wizards and crones are wonderful. I can't ever find a crone, though, and wish I could because I want one. I've found and embracing my inner crone and I wuv her. :D

Handcrafted and previously loved things are wonderful. Those are always treasured.

But in short, I love whatever I get and treasure the fact that I've gotten something given with love, whatever it may be. :)

I got WAY ahead of myself and mailed my package to SaintofScreams this morning! I had such fun shopping and packing her stuff. She'll probably get it WAY ahead of Valentine's Day, too, since Parcel Post was only $1.00 less than Priority Mail! :D

She can open and post the contents here if she likes. And if she DOESN'T like the stuff, she can (perhaps) NOT post it here! :(

This was lots of fun! I can't wait to see what I'm going to get now. I feel like a kid at Christmas time, only BETTER!!!!!!

time spent with friends
helping another person in the midst of ur crazy life lol
cuddles with someone special
cooking from the heart for yourself or anyone (that means none of the cooking from a box stuff! lol)
useing ur talents
being kind to yourself- emotionally, physically and materially at times too :) Come on now for those that know me you know I cant resist tha spa at times!! lol
puppy slobber on ur face
kitty kneading on your thigh
horse nuzzling after a ride
sticky fingers on ur face from a toddler when they kiss u

The Lovers Tarot by Jane Lyle- Book and Deck; I didn't want to get it dirty, so I just took the lid off the box, and the cards are so Gorgeous!!! The cards are Classic Rennaisance- like style, with a modern digitalized spin, could be described as 3-D, and are very detailed!!! They have deep, Victorian, royal colors, and I can't wait to look at them more often!!!

Gypsy Fortunes by Lady Lorelei- Book and Deck; It's a hardback book, with the cards placed in the cover (It has a ribbon underneath the cards, sticking out to dislodge the cards.) I've only seen one card but I can tell you they're simple, with lots of color, yet perfectly detailed.

Both decks are beckoning me to come play with them!!! Maybe I should use them in my business for doing readings alongside with my Goddess Tarot. What do you guys think? Perhaps when I get time to play with them, do you guys want to be Guinea Pigs? :D

A Handmade Valentines with a personal, Friendly message, and pictures of different "Lovers" cards on it. It's so Pretty!

Spanish Drinking Chocolate- Yummy! Almost like chocolate pudding! I already had a cup before Ritual this morning!

Incense, and it smells good!!!

A heart- shaped candle that twists, it's red on the top and bottom with pink in the middle. Like a mini- pillar with a tag made out to me, from AprilFool.

A Green gift box with a clear crystal pyramid, with a Pharoah in it! It's really nice with a 3-D effect to it, and felt on the botton of it.

A large, red velvet bag with love dice in there. A little Nice and a lil' Naughty, but hey, it's good to have a sense of fun!!!

A small, red velvet bag with a quartz crystal bracelet in there, the crystals are so pristine!!! A Wonder of Nature!!!

and a Truth- or- Dare deck in a small, pink organza bag, very cute! Something to have fun with the girls with!!!

Mine is mailed... it goes along the lines of relaxing and pampering yourself... remembering to take the time to love the little things in life... and to have something to put tarot cards in when you are done! (Just a hint Lyric).

Oh, a hint. Goodie, goodie! :D I can't wait! :D

SaintofScreams, I'm so glad you liked your presents! I had so much fun shopping for you, and sending the package! :D :D :D

I also have the Lover's Tarot, and I really think the art is beautiful, and I have the Gypsy card oracle set as well. It's a lot of fun, and has enough similarity to Tarot to be easy to read, even though there are a lot less cards. It's kind of like a "Cliff's Notes" version of Tarot, and the pretty packaging just blew me away! :)

I sent a Valentine's care package to my daughter in college the same day, and she got a more G-rated version ( ;) )of the Lover's Dice, along w/ some candles & stickers and candy & stuff!

It's so funny! Because often you hear people give the Lover's Tarot harsh criticism. But I guess I see beauty in about everything. The cards and the effects are AMAZING!!! Like you'll see them move and talk to you right there.

I Loved how the Gypsy cards were packaged the colors on the hardback book have a warm Amber color, and are beautiful. The Book and cards are in perfect condition. The cards seem to have a Rider Waite style coloring and detail. Really soft, but nice to read with. That's the way I would describe them!

Does your daughter read tarot, Barb?

AprilFool
31-01-2007, 05:14
No, at least not yet! :)

I just got into Tarot before Christmas when I bought my brother the Golden Tarot of Klimt deck. He has always been "into" New Age stuff.

I think right now, my family (husband & grown children) is still trying to get used to ME liking it!

AprilFool
31-01-2007, 05:29
Molly you're crackin' me up! Take your time, and buy or make me anything that makes YOU happy. Re-gifting a Tarot or Oracle deck you no longer connect with is also an option (decks I own are listed in my profile).

The thing besides decks & books that REALLY turns me on would be anything sparkley (like crystal or leaded glass suncatchers). I particularly like CLEAR ones because they throw such lovely rainbows. I have a VERY sunny house!

Remember to take your time. I'll be out of town from February 9th through the 18th anyhow, so if it's late, no big deal. My adult son will be checking on the pets and fish, and will BRING INSIDE any packages delivered by UPS that are left on the door. Any packages sent via the Post Office, I'll just get from the little slip of paper they leave in your mailbox. So don't hurry, have fun!

April, your package is going to be late. i am so sorry. I wanted to get it off to you before you went on holiday, but it's not to be.

I have some things here, and I am hoping to pick up a few more and get to the post office.

The problem: Massive bronchitis and pneumonia are going around the neighbourhood. So I suppose that I should count myself lucky I only got flu. But doctor's appointment tomorrow, if I have the energy I will pick up the rest of the stuff and get it to a post office--though if it's like today, it'll be all I can do to drag myself to the doc and back.

I am so sorry about that. It's nearly finished, though--if worst comes to worst, I'll bribe a neighbour to do the mailing.

Molly, no sweat! I'm so excited about driving to Florida on Friday I don't care! :D

Just take care of yourself, mail when you feel better, and PM me. Remember, my son is getting the mail all next week, so it will NOT lay around more than just one day on the covered porch if it's sent UPS, and I'll just get the little slip in the mailbox if you send it US Postal Service.

Not a big deal at all. Feel better!

Well, I don't think you should have to send another one, really. It's not your fault it got lost and it's the fact you sent it that counts. You could just send me a pretty card and some candy and I'd be happy. :D

Maybe the Tao is feeling that I need to simplify my life and that I shouldn't get exchange presents. This is the second time in a row. :P Except that the first time, nobody replaced it.

sorry there was nothing tarot in it but to get something like that I would have to go 250 km further south... and so it was handmade things rather than bought things....

I had to laugh. everytime I try to push the fae away they keep popping up in my life, especially this deck! lol I'm praying they break me in nice and slowly this time :) The lil red rose card was adorable with cupid inside, the chocolates look divine- I'll save those for tommorrow but i love the rose shaped ones they r so cute! Ooooooh :heart:Sunshineluvr:heart: THANKYOU! :D

I opened up all the little packages and what a treasure of a treat.. :)

A couple of bathsoaks that smell great, a cherry-scented candle that has my nose doing a fizzy happydance just from smelling it, a very bubble-gummy pink sparkly shower gel called Snow Fairy (made by Justin - love that personal touch *s*).
Also a jar of apple sea salt scrub that smells devine. Will be used after karatepractice tomorrow. (It seems some oil has seeped out from the jar during shipping, but not much.)
And a handmade adorable baggie with hearts and roses and such on it containing the Tarot of the Thousand and One Nights... Looking through the deck had me right back in the fairytales. All those wonders and dangers, journeys to incredible cities and landscapes, castles and palaces, and not least the magic and strange twists of fate.

One summer during my early teens, I read through the librarys whole section on fairytales and myths one book at a time. Ofcourse the Thousand and One Nights was a big part of it, a whole seven books if I remember it right all with different themes of monsters, lovestories, magic, travels etc.
Getting a magic carpet-view to that place again is really an exciting experience. :)

I got mine today! (Well, it actually came Saturday- but I was out so the postman put a card through my door, and I went to the sorting office this morning to retrieve it).

Thank you so much, Eco74!! So many lovely things...some delicious Rooibos tea with sparkly silver balls in it; some beautiful rosewood soap; spicewood incense, (I've burned some of that already!) a sparkly red heart; a sage smudge stick, (very useful, that!) a tea strainer; colourful Valentine's toe socks; and pink bath mitts with a deep red flannel; a sweet little Teddy and a VERY lovely silver heart and moonstone necklace.

Two really nice smellies... a tiny bag of ginger, cinnamon and cloves, (which is now in the box with my Hoi Polloi Tarot :)) and a wonderful heart-shaped bag full of lavender! Which will go next to my pillow tonight- I love lavender.:)

And... a very lovely hand-made Valentine's card. I did so enjoy opening them all this morning- it really made my day.

Thanks again, :)
Bright Blessings!

I'm glad the package got there and that you enjoy it. I especially loved the feather rose bud. I thought that was quite clever. :) It's good you got it on Valentine's Day, even if it did come yesterday. :) Light the candles, put on the DVD, use the bath fizzies and oil, and just pamper "you".

I thought the little Goddess tarot was just a nice, feminine touch. Sort of in keeping with all the other "pamper me" things.

Okay so does anyone want a reading as a "Thank- you" for participating? Let's see, I have the Goddess Tarot, the Lover's Tarot, and The Gypsy Fortunes(Oracle). The latter two I just received in this exchange, and have yet to work with them.

Well I would like to do another exchange for Spring, but perhaps a charity exchange? For instance, you can make a small donation online to a charity of your partner's choice, and perhaps send them a few goodies? That can be optional. I'll let you figure that out with your partners if anyone wants to join in. Perhaps I'll set up a new thread today...

I'll take you up on that offer. :)

Nothing specific since I'm very much into taking things in their stride, healing and evolving right now. That whole 'give yourself to the moment zen thing'..
Just a general heads-up would be great, to see if there's something I should be paying more attention to than I am.

Either one of the decks would be fine so just go with whatever you feel like using.

(Elnor has to have a lie down & a small gin to recover) The thoughts of that Tarot bag going astray had me stressed... I made it specially with the colours you said you liked, and I'm so glad you like everything! Thanks for the lovely comments, too. :P

And I got mine--thank you so much, femalegamer! That Lovers' box is so cute, and should hold all my working tarots and then some :)

Gorgeous bracelet, spreadcloths, herbs, all of it. And a new tarot pack :)

Very, very much appreciated. Did you make the box yourself? I still can't get over that one!

Thanks again -
Molly

Kind of. :) It's a box that my husband's business (website linked in my account) does, with the majors on his pirate tarot. It's laser-engraved. I couldn't pass up sending the Lovers for a Valentine's thing. :)

I got my package, fairylvr! Thank you so much! I love the bath gel, bubble bath, spray cologne, and lotion! Also those spicy little red heart candies in the cute heart plastic container. The girls just loved those---they've got a jalapeno bite to them in addition to the cinnamon. I was just thinking of those the other day. :) The air freshener concentrate is absolutely wonderful! And it really does last and last. Makes a bath really a treat even up into the air. And that sweet little bag is just darling! You're right, it will hold a couple of decks when empty, too. :D

Thanks so much! Now there's no need to go shopping again. :) It finally did get here.

Thank goodness. I was just going to mail one out today, and I thought I should check first... I am glad that you really enjoy everything...

April, it's finally in the post. Enjoy it after your holiday!

Hi, Molly, I just landed at home from my VERRRYYYYY COOOOLLLLLDDDDD Florida vacation :(

We had fun at Walt Disney World despite the cold weather, and I'm looking forward to receiving your package! Even the Florida KEYS were COLD!!!!

Sorry it was cold, but I hope it was a good holiday.

Let me know if it doesn't get there this week!

Will Do! BTW did you send it via UPS or the Post Office?

mollymawk

Post Office. UPS to the States is way out of my price range, sadly.

OK, no problem either way! Today is a Federal Holiday (being our "President's Day" here in the U.S.). Since the Postal service is not delivering today, I was just curious if I should look for UPS's Brown truck or wait until tomorrow for the postal service delivery when we all go back to work (I work for a bank).

Molly,

My delightful parcel arrived this afternoon, THANK YOU!!! :D

I love the deck bags-THREE of them! Wow! and they are gorgeous!

I can't wait to dig into the Madame Endora's Fortune Cards too. I flipped through them quickly and they look mesmerizing.

I also love the lace wrap; did you make it? It's so feminine! ;)

And is that fairy dust in the little glass star? I'll have to sprinkle some and see what happens when my husband gets back from his second week of the vacation to Florida! :D

And you remembered the #1 Valentine's Gift Essential - Chocolate!!!!

I also loved the cute card! All in all, it was a delightful package, and I really appreciate you sending it to me. It was EXTRA fun to get it this week, too. Last week was just TOO busy to properly appreciate it!

*huge sigh of relief*

I am so happy it got there! Now I needn't be ashamed :)

And glad you're liking it, too. The lacey can be used as a hair wrap or a delicate shoulder shawl--and don't eat the fairy dust in the necklace, that's for wishing!

I'm glad you're enjoying the local (well, what we have here) choccies!

At the rate your collection is growing and mine is shrinking, I thought you might have some use for the tarot bags, too.

This was so much fun all-round!

Oh, I'm glad to know about a hair wrap. What a lovely idea! And you are absolutely right. I'm always on the lookout for more bags, I get so tired of the basic organza ones, and these are so much more lovely.

And most of all, this was the MOST fun idea! Thanks again for organizing it!

Mi-Shell, remember the package you posted about further back in this thread and you didn't know where it came from? I think that was probably your Valentine and the person didn't choose to reveal themselves. Some people who do these exchanges prefer to keep themselves anonymous. If you never found out any other origin of that package, then that was probably it. :)

Nope... you're not alone. I still didn't get mine yet either :( :(

And I didn't get my Christmas one. But the way I look at it, it's the spirit of giving that counts most. I do feel disappointed and I don't blame you both if you do in this exchange. I think that's only natural. I try not to feel disappointed because I can't help feeling like I'm selfish for feeling that way. But I haven't let it stop me from doing this exchange and I hope you won't let it stop you from future exchanges. :)

Well... I certainly still expect to receive mine.... My partner have just had some problems getting it shipped a couple of times.
Last time I heard, it was on it's way... though it is taking quite some time it seems... :(

*still eagerly awaiting valentines gift*

Mi- shell, I sent yours out last week, it should get there, maybe there's a problem with Customs. If it doesn't get there within a few days let me know right away!!! We've also have had complicated weather, too.

Oh well, that explains it!
I have heard on the news, that there are a few customs officers doing a Celti Cross layout for EACH parcle that gets to the border: Should we let this across and how much duty shall we charge with GST and PST???
And my layout had the Tower, the Devil the Hanged Man and DEATH in it and so they confiscated the parcle as "suspicious of Terrorism enhancing item" .....

But thank you for trying!
I apreciate it!

Hi Lyric!
That was the one from the Christmas exchange!
It had a small red bag and 3 little stones in it and was my Secret Santa.

I'm happy it arrived!
I was getting so scared!!!

Anyways, a lady around this area made the lotion, she sold it online but I couldn't find her link... odd... and I can't believe Customs opened and tested it! An then glued it back on?! Perhaps they thought it was a chemical or something... when I get to, I should start making some of my own...

Did you open the Oracle? It seemed to want to go to you, so I Hope it "clicks." I'm sorry if the box got a little beat up... it did look fun!

I really did like the "Awareness Ribbon" molds, those were very cute... Awareness is definately something I feel very deeply about.

I was very Blessed with my package, and was only suiting I paid it forward. I am very pleased with the rave review!!!

Love Ya too!!!

I just opened the oracle! I LOOOVE the Owl! Since Owl is my Miahanit - and since I love this one, do not fear for the rest of the bunch!! I already remember, what Frog looooks like! That is a good start!
.... And... Oh... MY hands smell so nice!
I am a very happy camper in a very nasty snow storm!!!!
Thanks again!!
And Blessings to all!
