View Full Version : SOUL CARDS 1& 2
I got my Souls Cards and they are beautiful! Has anyone else worked with them? The art is great and they are very "deep."

You (I think) mentioned these in my post about oracles. Where can I check these cards out?
you can check them out in this site and in wicce.com.
let me know what you think.

dee,
yes, i have these cards...luv 'em!
i use them for meditation, per the suggestion in the booklets that come with each deck.
i also find that i can confront "old baggage" with them, through a kind of story-building process...
first, i choose cards that represent my feelings about a bad or even traumatic experience (as few as three, as many as twenty!)...then, after i contemplate these images, i choose other cards to depict my recovery, forgiveness and overcoming of the drama or trauma. i may stay with a set of images for several weeks, even months--whatever it takes to work through the scenario, i suppose. eventually, somehow, i have truly found peace over some rather heavy past experiences, just by working with the "soul cards" this way. i say "somehow," because i really can't tell you how or why this works, but it does!
:)
perhaps it is because they are so "deep," as you say--i totally agree! i have often come upon card images that stay with me for quite awhile...
these cards are also great for journaling and creative writing.
i'm glad you found these cards, dee!
good luck!
Tauni. :D
I have also found "storybuilding" a great way to tap into the unconscious with these cards. They really are increadible.
Do you combine Soul Cards 1 & 2 into one deck? Do you use them in conjunction with readings? Just curious....:-P

dee,
yes, i combined both decks, making quite a chunky stack!
actually, this was jade's idea, several months back, and now i believe she uses them for readings, too. i tried to use them as a divinatory tool, but i don't believe i have near enough reading experience. i've only just begun to tap into my intuition and so on...
jade...jade...? yoooo-hooooo....
:D
YUP!! :D
It was Jade who gave me the idea to combine them. I know she loves these cards.... yeah, where are you Jade?
I love these cards though, they are great.
What do you think are differences b/w 1 & 2? I really could not find any.... maybe not looking close enough.

Dee, to me the first deck is darker than the second one - abit more intense. The second one has cheerier, brighter colors
After saying that you'd think I use the second one, but I only own the first deck. I keep telling myself I need to go out and buy the second one too. I really like that one better but something keeps telling me to wait. So I wait and wait and wait.
The first deck is definitely trying to tell me something. I finally had to go to a friend (who has the 2nd deck) for some help. From the time I first bought the deck I kept getting the same 5 cards over a period of about 3 months. I think because I couldn't "get it" they became scary to me. She helped me see that I'm going through some big internal changes right now and that's what was scaring me. I rarely get those cards now.
Like Jade, I do readings with them for myself and others. It seems to work wonderfully. But I also draw a card every night and put it on my headboard. Kind of as a dreamwork card. There's so much you can do with these cards. I love them!

Oh Jade had posted a site where they showed pictures of all the cards. Does anyone still have that? I didn't save it, but it's a great place to check out all the cards before you buy them.
I did a search but didn't come up with it. Anyone remember?
Hi:
Faunabay - that is an interesting observation on the cards. I still can not see the difference b/w the 2. I own both and I am enjoying them a great deal.
I believe the website is : http://www.touchdrawing.com
Here you can see all the cards and get some information on the art work, the creatrix, etc.
Good Luck. - Hope you get to the second deck one day!! :D
Dee, thanks for posting the website. :)
Y'all are right, these cards are really lovely. I think I may have to make some room for them here at home. See what y'all have gone and done!!!??? :p ROFL!
Jimilyn
Jimilyn:
when you get them come back and let us know what u think.
Faunabay: How do you use them for dreamwork??? Just curious. :D
They are really stunning, surealistic and emotive. The soulcard 1 set is a bit dreamy but a little darker. The soulcard 2 set is lighter, happier and more colourful. There seems to be more link with Tarot concept in the second set of paintings. If I had to choose, I would take the first set as they seem to be deeper and have more feeling. The second are beautiful but I do not get much feeling from them.
Definitely Soulcard 1 will be on my list, should I be in the market for more. I have too many already and have promised myself to stop buying.
Thank you for sharing these beautiful cards.
Alaya
guess who?
i'm so glad to see that you are all using and LOVING this cards.
tauni (hi :-) ) have you ever used the "oh cards"? they are excellent for delving into issues and resolving them. i used them alot with my teens when i ran my support groups!
i am still using the two decks combined and my clients are loving them as much as i am. i seldom use any cards when i do readings anymore but at the end of the reading i usually pull out a layout or two cause my clients like to have whatever i've said already confirmed with the images on the cards.
i haven't noticed a difference between the first and second deck but since i have them combined i really just look at them as one deck anyways. if i had to recommend one to buy i'ld recommend saving up and getting both! i love the fact that i can do three layouts, one on top of the other, without picking up the cards and still give a detailed reading with lots of cards left in my hands (deck) . i can't do that with any other tarot decks.
love and light,
jade
ps it's nice to know that i am remembered here. reading my name over and over again made me smile. thanx! :-)
Jade You've returned!!!! :)
Please tell me again how you use these with the Voyager? I usually do a reading with the Voyager or any other deck usually the Robin Wood and then for clarification on some issues I use the Soul Cards. I notice that although the reading becomes quite lengthy, the Soul Cards reading adds a dimension and depth that is difficult to even put into words (in my opinion). I also notice that these cards opne my intuition in a way I neer thought possible.

Dee,
For dreamwork I will draw one before I go to bed, meditate on it a bit, then place it on my headboard. It really seems to get things worked out in my dreams. Sometimes it's pretty intense, but definitely gets things moving.
Jade,
I only have the first deck and I love doing readings for myself but when I try to read for other people I'm finding that when I let the querent (always friends) tell me what they see it's always different from what I see. So I'm finding (at least with me) it's better to just kind of help them along but let them pretty much do their own reading. Again I only use the soul cards for my friends so I'm not charging and they seem to actually like this better. I help them out with my opinions but I think, especially with these decks, they are getting more out of the cards that are relevant to them than I do.
Hope everyone can understand that. I tend to ramble abit. Sorry. :)
Soulcards can definitely be used like the "oh" cards where the querent does their own interpretation.
I use the soulcards the same as any other tarot cards, I do a complete rounded reading from just using them. I don't use them 'with' the voyager deck (or any other deck). Personally, I don't find that I need to although if I was going to I would use them similar to how Dee is using them!
Dee you are alot more intuitive than you give yourself credit for. Stop questioning if what you are doing is right and instead just 'trust' that what you are doing is exactly right for you. I think you come up with great ideas and usages for the cards. (for those that don't know, Dee emails me regarding questions, that's why I know how gifted she is!)
So, yes, absolutely you can let your friends/querents read their own cards, but as a gifted intuitive reader, given the chance, you may find that your readings reach new depths with these amazing soulcards. They truely are a light into the querents soul.
blessed be.
jade
*BIG blush* :) Thanks for the compliment, Jade.
your welcome and you deserve it!!!

SOUL CARDS have really been helping me resolve this very painful week and it is helping me heal from inner fears.
After much work with these cards I decided to go back for my PhD!!! After a Master's i thought I'd never go back to school but I was able to go back to my dream and goal... learning to trust myself.. healing my soul...aaahh the SOUL CARDS...
:)
dee,
congrats on your decision and soul-discovery/journey.
love and light,
jade
I love the soul cards! i got mine two days ago, and i love them!
(see my post. (http://www.tarotforum.net/showthread.php?threadid=5484))
I've pulled this thread back in the hope of further discussion.
I just had to get these cards after seeing the one showing the image of a tree, supported and nourished by a figure in the ground [Gaia/mother earth]. It was so close to my own mental picture of what I am attempting to do / what I am attempting to connect with when I am practising grounding.

Soul Cards 1, are wonderful. I highly recommend them.
Part of their power, and beauty comes from ‘not being named’.
If you have ever read the book “Witch Crafting: A Spiritual Guide to Making Magic “by Phyllis Curott, there is a chapter on Un-Naming. A wonderful exercise.
These cards are not named, therefore supple…they can shift and change as you do.

i will hopefully get the Soul cards 1 in a month (from a trade of course LOL) then eventually i will get Soul cards 2..i am really looking forward to both of them!
i really love my soul cards. they are excellent for intuitive readings. i use them alot when i need to get in touch with my own feelings.
this has already been posted, but i thought i'd post it again for those just reading the more recent posts on this thread.
deborah koff-chapin, the author of the soul card decks, has a web site;
http://www.touchdrawing.com/
this site shows all the cards in both decks, and also includes some wonderful free e-cards.

I found myself going back to that site over and over again just to look at the cards. They are truly beautiful! I love the concept behind them as well.
Went to Chapter's tonight just to browse & found Soul Card II on the shelve. The clerk said they were sitting on the shelf for about a year now. Funny that I never noticed them before. I think they were meant for me...so I bought them. I'm really looking forward to using them. I've been using the images on the Touch/Drawing site and the cards definitely much more vibrant.

i broke down and bought a deck yesterday. i am very weak when i hear ppl raving about a deck. i totally expected to be disappointed by the deck but i'm not. some of the images are very evocative. the colors used are soothing. i can see myself using these for readings when i feel unable to use tarot. tarot makes me feel boxed in by years of being interpreted in similar ways. while i know there aren't right or wrong tarot answers, the soul cards leave me more opening for total free flight of my imagination. i plan to use them in creative writing projects. character analyses and stories seem to leap out of many of the images. i'm excited at the thought of using them. i'm glad i decided to give these a try. who knows? i may eventually get the second deck if use of this deck goes well.

I have this deck also..Have not used it yet...I am like umm..Hmmm to go about using this deck!! lol
Truthsayer, I'm so glad you like these cards - you've exactly summed up how I feel about them. It feels like the pressure's off to 'interpret' - a much gentler yet complex and creative image to call to mind throughout the day. I think they're wonderful - and as you say, an invaluable aid to creative processes.

I saw both Soul Cards decks today and I am so tempted to buy at least one of them. I'm not sure how I would get along with them though since they seem so unstructured. They are also very expensive here, so they would have to be something pretty special for me to buy them. Can anyone tell me about how to work with them exactly?
There's a LWB - well LBlackB - which I've never read - so here goes.
LBB "There are no preconceived meanings to the cards. Think of them as windows through which you can view your inner landscape. Any one image may evoke a different response depending on the context in which its seen.....
Personal use of soulcards -
- journal writing
- keep it on your altar
- bring soulcards to your personal growth or support groups
Subheadings:
-instant readings - think of an issue, pick a card, describe what you see, how does what you just perceived relate to the issue?
-preparation
-selecting the cards
-integrating the images
-working with others
etc
a random numberred sequence is shown at the end but no jnumbers on the cards themselves.
Eve
hi silverlotus,
they are very free form. there is no set meaning for each card. you interpret them however they speak to you. you can draw as few or many as you want, and lay them out using a spread or not.
i am always discovering new ways of looking at and interpreting mine.
edited to add; sorry eve, you must have posted yours as i was writing mine, lol.
Re: Soul Cards 2
I only have Soul cards 1 and I might have been tempted to get 2 - but reviews aren't too good. Seems lots of people think 1. is better than 2. - best to check out first?
I think it's going to be a long time before I've 'used up' the value of Soulcards 1. I've drawn the same image on different occasions and come up with entirely different feelings about the image.

I like journaling the best with these cards. Meditation is good, too, but I need to write out all my insights, otherwise they will get lost....
I have both sets, and there are images in both that never cease to give me new and fresh ideas, as well as those that kind of seem to be "clunkers." Not total duds, but less likely to inspire something deep and rich and more likely to elicit more superficial pieces of journaling. And now I have to figure out why they tend to do that. Hmmm....
There is a recent thread in Spirituality on Zen freewriting. My suggestion is pick a Soul Card, set your timer for ten minutes, and go.

Ha I had to dig out this "ancient" thread.
I got Soul Cards 1 and didn't realise just about every card has a person in it So when I look at the cards all I see is the person. : (
So I'm curious......does anyone use these? Have the cards been "helpful" (for lack of better word) in any way? Or should I say do you get anything out of these cards?
I was hoping to be able to do 3 card draws with these. Maybe I need to figure out what these people are trying to tell me?

Ah it's good to know I'm not alone : ) I need to get these out and work with them.
HAHA maybe some sort of new deck interview?
I bought Soul Cards 1 recently and am hoping to have Soul Cards 2 soon. I love this deck! As yet I haven't incorporated it into readings for myself, but having read this thread I've gathered some great ideas :)
I have used the deck when reading for others. At the very end of the reading I ask the seeker to draw one card and hand it to me without looking at it. Before turning it over I explain that I will not be interpreting the card, I'm just asking for their response to the card - what they think and feel about the card.
All but a few seekers are easily able to verbalise their responses; most are amazed at how succinctly they describe their own situation when looking at the card, and how the card seems to encapsulate the core of the issue/s they are encountering on their journey.
I never volunteer assistance when they're describing the card, or re-interpret it for them, knowing that we each have a different response to the Soul Cards (as has already been said in this thread) and that at different times in their life, the same person may respond to the same card in a different way.
Altogether an awesome (in the true sense of the word) deck! Can't wait to get the second one :)

Thanks for responding hazlit : )
Maybe I need to do something similar to this....draw a card and see how it relates to how I'm feeling/going through at the moment. Maybe I can relate to the people in that sense. I haven't worked with the cards yet....when I opened them I went through each card and thought ok how am I supposed to pick anything up from these people?
Thanks again : )
You're very welcome DownwardSpiral :) :)
I'm intending on trying the method (posted earlier in this thread) Logiatrix uses:
first, i choose cards that represent my feelings about a bad or even traumatic experience (as few as three, as many as twenty!)...then, after i contemplate these images, i choose other cards to depict my recovery, forgiveness and overcoming of the drama or trauma. i may stay with a set of images for several weeks, even months--whatever it takes to work through the scenario, i suppose. eventually, somehow, i have truly found peace over some rather heavy past experiences, just by working with the "soul cards" this way.
Maybe you could try this one? When I try it I'll get back here and post my experience.
I've found that staring at the card/s for a while, then jotting down my thoughts has been helpful. I too noticed that they all seem to depict the human form in some way. That was slightly off-putting, but I took my focus off that aspect and found it didn't really bother me after a while. Perhaps the half of it is that there's no interpretation provided in the LWB... we're all so used to having structure / being structured that we're on the back foot when we're offered something with no structure at all... at a bit of a loose end. A bit like a caged animal suddenly released... erm... where do we go next/first/later/whenever - all this freedom and what? to do with it!
All the best in your journey with these wonderful cards

I still haven't had a chance to work with these cards : ( Maybe all the people because we would relate to how they are feeling maybe? That would be interesting to pick out a card that reflects how I'm feeling. LOL I could see ending up with more than one card. I do need to get past the people part and see what is it in the card that I'm drawn to...and then why.

I have both decks but I have only worked with deck 1, I have pull a card to see what I might be feeling during the day, they have worked pretty well for me in this regard. I also like the look of the cards, they are very different.
As far as the images of people on the cards, I just put myself in the place of the person on the card, so I am seeing inturnally what I am or will feel soon. For example, I pulled the card with the lady ( maybe an angel) who looks like she had some form of wings ( I saw this as myself), riding on a small horse.
I was going to see a friend who I have not seen in a few years, we were planing on going to a movie, so I took this to mean that I would get away ( travel - horse) from my trouble for a few hours by going to meet her and enjoying myself.
