Quick Oracle Deck Question

Ninja421

How is an Oracle deck different from the normal tarot deck?

I really want to know, and my tarot deck even told me to ask the question here! :)

Oh and where can I get an Oracle deck?

Here's my opinion:

Tarot decks have 78 cards/16 courts/22 major arcana and umm 56 minors? Tarot is a specific system that is universal throughout all tarot decks. Tarot is an oracle.

Oracle decks have any number of cards- can be just a few or way more than 78. Each oracle has it's own system.

You can get oracle decks online or at a bookstore. The list of decks here on AT has a link to where you can purchase the one you are looking at.

Hope this helps.

there are 421 returns in a search for oracle on the main AT site
http://www.aeclectic.net/cgi/search.cgi?Terms=oracle&x=12&y=12
some are probably duplicates but it will give you an idea of the range an oracle can take.

For many months when I started here I kept another window open to here
http://www.aeclectic.net/tarot/cards/
and each time I'd read a post about a deck I wasn't familiar with I'd whip over to that window, type or paste in the name and read up on it.

Hope that helps! And welcome to the forum!

I ditto what Disa says--Oracles can be plugged into the tarot formula or not--sometimes they make their own "suits" per say. I would say when looking at oracles, look for symbolism that resonates with you...good luck and let us know how you make out! XXNat
